Meta Sudans

The name given to the partly restored brick interior of a beautiful fountain erected by the emperor Domitian near the Colosseum at Rome. It is shown in the illustration on p. 73. It was originally a tall marble cone spouting water from the top and from several jets below (De Reg. Urb. 4).
