His pennant was on board the Dela ware, Commander Quackenbush, and was followed by the Louisiana, Hetzel, Underwriter, Commodore Perry, Valley City, Morse, Seymour, Whitehead, Lockwood, Ceres, Shawsheen, Brincker, and Putnam. anchored off Slocum's Neck, fifteen miles distant and within sight of the city of Newbern. The following vessels composed the attacking force; Delaware, Lieutenant-Commanding L. P. Davenport; Commodore Perry, Lieutenant-Commanding C. W. Flusser; Valley City, Lieutenant-Commanding J. C. Chaplin; Underwriter, Lieutenant-Commanding A. Hopkins; Commodore Barney, Lieutenant-Commanding R. T. Renshaw; Hunchback, LieutenantCom-manding E. R. Colhoun; Southfield, Lieutenant-Commanding C. F.
