The Last Few Weeks

JD and I have done a lot of fun things in the last few weeks!
 Here's a re-cap of what we've been up to:

Dinner at Jared and Karen's with Bryce and Sheree. These guys were JD's good friends in high school and we got together because Bryce just accepted a job offer in Louisiana and they'll be moving soon. It was nice to visit and catch up with them.

Dinner at Chick-fil-A. We were trying so hard to not spend money on eating out in May, but I had been talking about Chick-fil-A for weeks. . . so we gave in. Worth it!

Tyler and Mikella's Wedding. JD's little brother got married over Memorial Day weekend. We were both in the wedding party and loved sharing in their celebration.

JD's mom's side of the family at the reception. It had rained most of the day, so it was pretty chilly. . . but the backyard was absolutely lovely!

It started raining hailing during their wedding dance. While everyone rushed to get the tables and chairs and stereo equipment under cover, these lovebirds shared their romantic moment in the rain. Rain on your wedding day is supposed to be good luck, right? :)
NBA on television. We've been watching a lot of basketball lately. JD has been cheering against the Spurs (only because he's bitter they swept the Jazz) and I've been teasing him by wearing my San Antonio apparel sometimes. I'm not as committed to the Spurs as I probably should be and wouldn't mind if OKC won (gasp!) because it would make JD happy.

Park City with the newlyweds. Tyler and Mikella stayed in a condo up in Park City for their honeymoon. We went up later in the week for dinner and games. We played games until like two in the morning and spent the night up there.

Tiffanie's graduation. JD's little sister, Tiffanie, graduated from Layton High School. We are super proud of her and are so excited for what's in store in her life.

Camping with the Weeks and Leues. We planned to go camping with these guys, but ran into issues when we tried to find a camp spot. It didn't end up working out as we planned, but we had a bonfire anyway and spent the evening playing games and visiting.

Fishing with the Williams family. Camping didn't work out, but JD still really wanted to go fishing. We invited the family we live with and JD taught all their kids how to fish. I sat out in the sun and helped cook breakfast in the morning. We were up in the mountains for a few hours, but JD was the only one who ended up catching a fish. Still, it was pretty special to see JD's sweet interactions with those kiddos.

Dinner and dominoes with friends. Cory and Sean and Jeremy and Stefanie came over for dinner on Saturday night. We enjoyed delicious food and played dominoes. Love spending time with these guys!

We are blessed with such good friends and family and are trying to enjoy the sweet time we have together before our little one joins the family. We know we'll miss these days!

Memorial weekend

For memorial weekend, we went up to Park City with our friends Brad and Abby. We stayed at Abby's family's cabin and ate, played games, and watched movies to the wee hours of the morning. (Ps. If you thought Inception was hard to understand when you were awake, try figuring it out when you're constantly falling asleep in all the important parts.) We went to the outlet malls, had steak and potatoes with Brad's family, and squeezed in a few games of Settlers of Catan.
Ps. I won our 4 hour game of Dominoes on Sunday night. Brad's dad wasn't too pleased, but I was happy! It was a fun weekend.

Pps. I am grateful for all the men and women who give of their lives in support of our country. Check out this Pulitzer Prize winning military project. I remember seeing a picture from this series when we visited the Newseum last summer in DC.  Such amazing work.

Last week.

On Monday, JD and I went to Coldstone for family night and basically didn't see each other again until Friday. It was a busy week.
On Thursday, JD texted me updates of the BYU game while I went to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting to support some of the girls I work with. On Friday, we hung out with Jeremy and Stefanie. . . and surprisingly watching March Madness with other people feels incredibly less lame than watching it alone at home in your pajamas (By the way, I want VCU to win it all. Go Virginia Commonwealth!) On Saturday, we drove to Salt Lake so JD could pick up the 3! snowboards he decided to buy (Before you begin to think we're loaded, I'll correct your thinking and let you in on the fact that he practically stole them. Not really. . . but they were all valued at over $300 and he got them for about 30 bucks each. Winter super clearance+ brother's employee discount+ additional manager discount because brother has the hookup= happy husband).
Brad and Abby came along for the ride. We had lunch and went bowling before JD and I had to book it home for work. Brad was really happy because he got the best score out of the boys, which meant he got an advantage for the next time we played Settlers. Abby beat me, so she got the same prize.

I watched Nacho Libre for the first time with my work girls on Saturday night and confirmed the fact that I still hate stupid humor. After church on Sunday, we made homemade pizza, picked up the house, and napped. We went to a fireside about crucial couple communication and then Brad and Abby came over and we played games and ate coconut creme pie. Brad won the first game and Abby won the second. Surprised?

JD and I live for the weekend because our weeks always feel so long. My week was long enough last week that I actually forgot my little brother's birthday on Friday and didn't realize it until late last night. Dangit.

Gamers.

JD and I are game people. A good game and good gaming friends never get old. Brad & Abby are our go-to game friends. We've played games with them almost every weekend this year (and some weekdays too!) We like playing board games because, after the initial investment, they provide free entertainment lots and lots of times. Lately, we've been playing:
Settlers of Catan
Ticket to Ride
Killer Bunnies
Yahtzee
Monopoly Deal
Sequence
Farkle
Dominoes
and most recently,
CLUE!

Last night, Brad and Abby came over and we busted out Clue. So old-school! We got it as a wedding gift, and hadn't opened the box yet. Looking for a change, Abby and I convinced the boys it would be fun! I forgot how much strategy Clue requires. Abby won because the rest of us made incorrect accusations about the killer, his weapon, and his place of crime.

I can't wait for a rematch!

Ps. Brad and Abby got a real kick out of our engagement pictures. The fact we used board games as props for our engagements verifies our status as total nerdy gamers!

Pps. Sometimes the term "gamer" is used in reference to boys, or girls, who spend excessive amounts of time playing video games. This is not us. We don't like video games.

Ppps. When choosing a picture for this post, I wanted to choose a cute-sy one.
JD thinks the serious one is more intense :)

For the record.

I beat JD's bowling score on Saturday night. :)

You know how in Provo all the lanes are taken and you have to wait whenever you want to bowl on a weekend? Yeah. . .it's not like that here. The bars and clubs are crrrowded. But the bowling alley? Very empty. Very cool.
