I used to love this song in the 80's and completely forgotten about it until I heard Jason Castro sang this on American Idol and I think he sang it really well. There are a few version of it and one of them is by the late Jeff Buckley but I think KD Lang is the one that really has the most beautiful voice. I was moved to tears each time I listen to her sing this.
Hallelujah by K.D Lang Album: Hymns of the 49th Parallel [Nonesuch] (2004)
I heard there was a secret chord That David played, and it pleased the Lord You don't really care for music, do ya? It goes like this The fourth, the fifth The minor fall, the major lift The baffled king composing Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty and the moonlight over threw ya She tied you To a kitchen chair She broke your throne, and she cut your hair And from your lips she drew Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Baby I've been here before, I've seen this room and I've walked those floor, I used to live alone before I knew ya But I've seen your flag on the marble arch, Our love is not a victory march, It's a cold and its a broken hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Maybe there's a God above, But all I've ever learnt from love, Is how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya, It's not a cry that u hear at night, It's not someone who sees the light, It's a cold and broken hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah
