Right on the Nail ~ butter London Swatches and Review: Sunbaked

butter London Sunbaker (2 coats)

Hi guys! I hope the start of your week has been flawless. Sorry for not posting last night. I don't really have a good excuse except that I was watching March Madness. No worries, I can't use that excuse again until Thursday! Oh, and I have a winner of my giveaway. Congratulations to Sara F.!

Tonight I have a surprising summer color from butter London. I say surprising because I don't expect a burnt orange metallic shimmer like Sunbaked for a summer collection. Perhaps fall, not summer. Anyway, I still think it's beautiful! Is it worth $15? No, I don't think so (that's why I got it for less than $10 at Ulta!). This is just 2 easy peasy coats.

Right on the Nail ~ butter London Swatches and Review: Jack the Lad

butter London Jack the Lad (2 coats)

I love 4 day weeks. I went to a conference on Tuesday and Wednesday for work, so today really feels like Monday. It's great!

Anyway, awhile back, Ulta had this great unannounced sale where I got 3 butter London polishes (only a select number of shades were a part of the sale) for only $15 (I think). One of the shades was Jack the Lad which is a mossy green with blue, gold and green shimmer. Oh man, I love this so much! The blue stands out more than the gold, and that makes this polish more unique in my opinion. The formula was pretty good, and only 2 coats were needed. You can find butter London polishes at your local Ulta, Macy's, Nordstrom, etc. for $15 each. Pricey, but nice for a splurge.

Right on the Nail ~ Butter London Nail Lacquer Review and Swatches: Wellies

Butter London Wellies (2 coats)

I love calling rainboots wellies. What do I love more? Calling wellies gumboots. The funny thing is, I learned to call them gumboots in Wellington, New Zealand. You'd think they would call them wellies, right? Anyway, I already showed this polish, but it was covered with a glitter a few weeks ago. It's a bright chartreuse green creme. I love weird colors like this, but it gave me lobster hands. Lobster hands (which makes me think of American Horror Story Freakshow) is when a polish photographs your hands extremely red. I was really happy with the formula and application of this one which completely covered in 2 coats. Likely the easiest way to get Butter London polishes is at Ulta for $15 each.

It's been such a long week, tomorrow cannot come sooner. How was your week?

Butter London Glam Rock Nail Lacquer Set Swatch and Review: Buckie

Butter London Buckie (3 coats)

Remember when I posted about this Butter London Holiday set forever ago? Well, I forgot to post one, and it's been sitting in my picture folder for too long. Buckie is the only new shade that came with the set and is a medium purple with some blue shimmer. You can still find this in stores or on their website, so if you are interested in it (for $15), pick it on up. The formula was just ok with this one; it was a bit sheer, but not unruly.

Chaos & Crocodiles Swatch and Review: Color Wheel Chaos

Chaos & Crocodiles Color Wheel Chaos (2 coats) over 2 coats Butter London Slapper

This is my first try with the indie brand Chaos & Crocodiles (love the name). I'm not really sure if the crocodile's name is Chaos or if it just brings chaos. Either way, that lovely creature is featured on every product they sell. Unfortunately, they open just a few times a year, and I got really lucky one time. My apologies for not posting this last month when there was a pre-order, but I had no idea it was happening. Apparently after all pre-orders go out, they will be talking about restocks, so there is still hope. Just go ahead and stalk their Facebook page

The polish I have to show is called Color Wheel Chaos and this one should be called Clown Puke. It basically has every type or color of glitter you can get into a bottle. I love and cherish this colorful bottle that I have. Of course it has so much glitter that you have to dab some of it on because this sucker is glitter dense. If you happen to make it into the hour-long restock times, definitely pick this up on their website

Butter London Swatches and Reviews: Pillar Box Red and All Hail the Queen

Butter London Pillar Box Red (2 coats)

Butter London All Hail the Queen (2 coats)

I hope your Saturday went well! I went to a 2 months after the wedding reception at a friend's house with lots of my husband (and my) friends. We got to bring Scraggles the dog and she had a wonderful time. There were lots of kids there and she went nuts because she loves kids for some reason.

Anyway, I have a few oldie but goodies from Butter London to show. Up first is a nice basic red creme called Pillar Box Red. The bristles on my bottles were all messed up, so my swatches didn't turn out well. I complained a little about it on Twitter, but it wasn't a big enough of a problem to go asking for a new one. Otherwise, it's a nice red that applied well, but I don't think I'd be paying $15 for it.

The second polish is a Butter London staple called All Hail the Queen. I think everyone has already seen swatches of this, but I guess these are just mine. It's a scattered holographic polish with a light brown base. Very work appropriate, but also really pops in the sun. I think every collection needs a color like this. I know a ton of indie brands have holographic polishes in all colors of the rainbow, so pick up one of those because they'll likely be cheaper than the Butter London polish (well, I guess it depends on the shipping). Overall, I like both colors fine, but they don't stand out enough to really be worth the price tag.

Butter London Spring/Summer 2012 Collection Swatches and Reviews: Slapper and Trout Pout

Butter London Slapper (2 coats)

Butter London Trout Pout (2 coats)

Notice how short my nails are in these pictures? Yeah, that's how old these swatches are. I got these in a Christmas set called Glam Rock when there was a 20% off sale. The set isn't around anymore, but the colors are still in the core collection. These are mini bottles which are basically exact replicates of their regular sized bottles which is cool.

Up first is Slapper, which is British slang for a loose woman. Yup, Butter London likes to keep it classy. Despite the name, the color is a beautiful aqua or teal creme that applied perfectly (not too thick and not too thin). I think I wore this a few days and added a glitter since I liked it so much. The second color is Trout Pout which is British slang for a person who has too many lip injections and has fish lips. I guess I could see this one since it's a color you could wear on your lips (and they do have a lip gloss of the same name!). Anyway, Trout Pout is a nice pink with some coral undertones. Very appropriate for this time of year, or any time of year really. This one also has a great formula and application, but I only kept it on for a day, so I guess I didn't like it as much as Slapper. You can find Butter London on their website, Ulta, Nordstrom, Macy's, etc. TGIF!

SinfulColors Holiday 2013 Sheer Lustre Glitter Collection Swatches: Glittery In Pink and Top Me Off

SinfulColors Glittery In Pink (2 coats) over Sally Hansen Teal Tulle (2 coats)

SinfulColors Top Me Off (2 coats on all but middle finger with 3) over 2 coats Butter London Trout Pout

*press samples*

I have 2 polishes from the second SinfulColors holiday glitter collections called Glittery In Pink and Top Me Off. Glittery in Pink is a really light pink with 2 sizes of hexagonal glitter. With the base I used, it looks almost coppery to me which is cool. It's simple, but with the right base color, you can have a really nice manicure. The glitter density was medium and I have 2 coats shown above. The positive is that you don't have to dab this one on and just use regular brush strokes.

Top Me Off is the second polish and it was a bit more troublesome. As you can see, it has very fine microglitter of purple/blue and holographic particles. I had some troubles keeping the microglitter in line, and you can see a few scattered around my cuticles. I used 2 coats on all of my fingers except for my middle finger where I made it opaque with 3 coats. This was not intentional. You have to be careful not to load the brush with too much polish because you can get the glitter to stick in 1 area which is what I had a problem with. Smooth thin brush strokes should solve this problem, but I guess I was in a hurry and just slapped it on without being careful. Otherwise, this is a really pretty polish.

If you're not into bar glitter, the Sheer Lustre Glitter collection will be more your style. You can find these at your local Walgreen store for $1.99 right now. You can also follow SinfulColors on Twitter or their Facebook page to find out more information.

Butter London: Victoriana

Butter London: Victoriana (2 coats)

Yup, it's about that time when things start to get stressful around here. I feel like I have so much to do and so little time. The next time I'll have less stress is when I'm off the plane in Cambodia. At that point I'll just have to deal with what I brought and try to find fixes for what I forgot :-D

I've heard people rave about Butter London's Victoriana, but I didn't want to drop that much money for it. Now that I have it, I would still recommend it, even at the $14 price point. I just love the look of this teal blue polish with loads of silver shimmer that really stands out (you know how some shimmer wants to be elusive). The formula was also top notch, so I don't have anything to back say about it.

Butter London Fall 2012 Collection: Trustafarian

Butter London Trustafarian (3 coats)

Hi everyone! I hope your weekend went well. Guess what? I leave for Cambodia in less than 2 weeks. I can't believe how the time has flown by in 2012. It's OCTOBER! It feels like the beginning of summer was just yesterday, and now it's rainy with a high of 70. Crazy.

When Ulta had their buy 1 get one free Butter London sale a few weeks ago, I had to buy a couple. I'm a huge fan of holographic polishes so Trustafarian was the first one I snatched up. It's a sage green scattered holographic color that sort of gave me lobster hands. If you are more of a linear holographic fan, this one may not be for you. The only downfall was the formula which was very thin and sheer. Well, the other usual downfall is the price (at $14), but seeing as I only technically paid $7 for this one, I can't say it was a downfall. Overall, I love the color, but the high price and lackluster formula may make you hold off.

Butter London Yummy Mummy Polish and Lippy

Butter London Yummy Mummy (2 coats) and lip gloss (bottom photo)

Do you ever match your nails to your makeup? If you're like me, you don't. For some reason my nails are a wildcard and I'll rock a polish despite any outfit or makeup. For those of you who do care, Butter London has made it easy for you, coming out with matching polishes and lip glosses called Lippy. Today I have Yummy Mummy (weird name) to show you. It's a beige color with a hint of grey to keep things interesting and a beautiful sprinkling of shimmer. I really enjoy this one for days I want something neutral. The pigmentation and formula was great as well.

As you can see, the Lippy does match the polish pretty well. I wear lots of lipsticks and lip glosses so it was nice to test out what a nail polish company can do. It has a doe foot applicator which is normally great, but these glosses are pretty thick and sticky which made for difficult application. It's not a huge deal, but it does take a bit longer to apply. The other issue I had was with the smell. They have this really strong floral scent to them which can be a deal breaker for those with sensitive noses. I eventually get used to it, but it takes awhile to get to that point. I believe Butter London is going to reformulate the taste/smell so this shouldn't be a problem anymore.

As I said previously, these are sticky glosses and I like sticky glosses because they last so much longer than slippery ones. These glosses definitely last a long time on the lips. Yummy Mummy is a nice neutral color that lots of skintones can wear (I'm an NC25). The price point is a bit high at $17, but is similar to other higher-end glosses.

Zoya Spring 2012 Fleck Effect Collection: Chloe

Zoya Chloe (2 coats) over Butter London Primrose Hill Picnic (2 coats)

Chloe comes from the Fleck Effect Collection and features three different color flakie polishes. I actually bought this one at Ulta, but they always have a limited variety of polishes. Chloe stood out to me the most because it has a better variety of colors (pink, green and gold flakes) where the others only have 1 or 2. I was hoping I'd be able to wear it alone, but unfortunately it is completely sheer and needed a couple coats of polish underneath. I paired it with Butter London's Primrose Hill Picnic which comes from their Lippy collection (I'll show you a swatch of it alone in the near future).

Butter London Spring/Summer 2012 Collection Preview

butter LONDON™ and Founding Creative Director Nonie Creme are pleased to introduce the new S/S 12 lacquer collection.

Says Creme,  “What a season! Pops of neon colour everywhere, tempered by sherbet pastels and cool neutrals. It left us plenty to play with in the nail realm.  I’ve mixed a couple of softer opaque shades in cantaloupe and pale pistachio, and followed up with an intense retro turquoise and slightly glittery hot pink.  Finally, a quietly marvelous sheer oyster that packs a tiny punch with micro glitter particles for those seeking a new way to wear neutral. The message this season is KNOW who you are, then BE who you are! It’s all about the Individual this season, and the beauty world is yours to rule.”
