Issei Hyodo thought that Kuoh Academy was your average school, despite it formerly being only for young women. Normal as that might seem, there is something most regular humans don't know; most of the student body are either angels, fallen angels, or devils. Unknowingly being asked out by a fallen angel, Issei is killed and revived as a demon by a girl named Rias Gremory. Supernatural events happening in high school is one huge reason why you may see this show pop up in your recommendations after finishing Highschool of the Dead!

Tatsumi and his friends had a simple dream of going to the capital and making money to send back to their village. However, the capital is not at all what it appears. After his friends were brutally tortured and killed by the locals, Tatsumi is the last one alive when the assassin group known as Night Raid arrive. Night Raid is a revolutionary group that intends to overthrow the prime minister and change the poverty plaguing the country. After seeing what the capital had done to his friends, Tatsumi chooses to join. Akame ga KILL! is known for having a lot of horrific themes and scenes, making it a great follow up to some of the stomach-clenching attributes that make Highschool of the Dead what it is.

Ganta Igarashi and his fellow classmates were supposed to visit a prison amusement park known as Deadman Wonderland when things went wrong. After a man in red massacred all of his classmates, leaving him to be the only one alive, Ganta is sentenced to serve his time in this unusual prison. The series follows Ganta as he tries to desperately survive the different deadly prison games while also trying to find the very man that killed his class. Yet another twisted anime series like Highschool of the Dead that you can binge watch!

Ayumu Aikawa was a regular boy who found himself in the wrong place and time. After being murdered by a serial killer on his way home, Ayumu is revived by a necromancer; Eucliwood Hellscythe. Now a zombie, he finds even more supernatural accidents occurring when he also steals a magical girl's uniform and gains her powers. Haruna, the magical girl he accidentally stole from, is desperate to have her powers back but needs him to continue fighting in her stead. While this anime is clearly more humorous than Highschool of the Dead, we guarantee it's worth your time if you're into zombie antics.

If you watched Highschool of the Dead for the zombies, consider giving Hellsing a try. The mission of Hellsing is very simple; kill all things undead or otherwise supernatural. Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing is currently in charge of this organization after her father's death. After receiving a tip about a Nazi organization, she and her companions go to scope it out. But is their mission really what it looks like? With plenty of twists, turns and supernatural baddies, you'll love this anime!

After escaping brutal experiments being done on her, she finds herself being rescued by a local boy named Kouta and his cousin Youka. Elfen Lied is known as one of the most messed up anime series out there, so if you like this kind of element in Highschool of the Dead, you'll be absolutely blown away by this.

After realizing he's dead, Otonashi can only remember one thing; his name. Sharing the afterlife with a girl named Yuri, who tells him that she leads the Shinda Sekai Sensen. This battle in the afterlife is waged against another girl named Tenshi. Despite Yuri's harsh words about her, Otonashi finds himself remembering specific things and feeling a sense of belonging to Tenshi. Highschool of the Dead is known for a lot of its horrific plot twists and brutal scenes; Angel Beats! has a very similar vibe to it.

Kiyoshi, Gakuto, Shingo, Andre, and Jo are the only five boys to attend Hachimitsu Private Academy. The school was once an all-girls academy, but only recently decided to go co-ed. However, the five boys have made a grave mistake; they thought peeping on the girls in the locker room would end well. After being caught, all five are sentenced to the school's prison and forced to stay there for a whole month. The series revolves around what their life is like after being prosecuted. While this show is much different in terms of plot, the premise of being in a strange high school, much like Highschool of the Dead, certainly makes it worth watching.

Chihiro Furuya has always been obsessed with the undead; it's been a particular dream of his to have a zombie girlfriend. This obsession finally peaks when his cat is suddenly hit by a car, leaving Chihiro to try and find a way to bring him back to life. During this, he meets a rich girl named Rea Sanka, who helps push him to achieve his goals. The revival elixir seems to work, but Rea mistakes it for poison and attempts to end her life with it. Now an undead girl, she tries to navigate her new life with Chihiro by her side. Highschool of the Dead may not have been about zombie romance, but that's exactly why you should watch this show!

Megurigaoka High School is everything Yuki Takeya could have ever dreamed. In fact, she finds herself never wanting to leave! Her favorite activities include going to the School Living Club, composed of several other girls. As happy as she is, Yuki doesn't realize that it's all just an illusion. In truth, she and her fellow club members are trapped in their high school as they try to survive a zombie apocalypse. For the obvious reason that this show is also about high school students trying to survive the world of the undead, you may want to consider adding this to your watchlist!

Makina Hoshimura has become a Shikabane Hime, a corpse princess, contracted by Kougon Cult after her revival. She only has one goal in mind; to have her revenge on the people that brutally murdered her and her family. Her friend in life, and contracted priest in death, Keisei Tagami helps accompany her on these missions. The story namely follows Keisei's younger brother, Ouri, who seems to be obsessed with death. Unlike Highschool of the Dead where the living get to have all the fun, it's time to see what a zombie girl can do.

The Kirishiki family have just moved to the small town of Sotoba, but nothing seems normal anymore. With their strange arrival, countless supernatural occurrences have been popping up all over the place. The dean of the only hospital, Toshio Ozaki, has started to notice that something is wrong. Vampires, known as "shiki," have begun showing up and causing problems. These creatures are neither alive nor particularly dead, so much like Highschool of the Dead, it's up to the characters to learn how to deal with this unusual situation.

Kei Kurono had died, but that doesn't mean he's done working just yet. In the afterlife, Kei is thrown into a game where his skills, morals, and will are tested. For Kei, God continues to throw him again and again through a cycle of games that would break anyone's spirit. Without giving too much away, we will warn you that this is a very dark anime and is certainly on a whole different level than Highschool of the Dead. However, if you liked a lot of the twisted themes and scenarios brought on by that anime, you may be interested to see what Gantz has to offer.
