Charlotte is one of those anime series that goes from zero to a hundred real fast. Following the tale of students with incredible powers, you can only imagine what kind of trouble everyone will get into. After all, how is the world supposed to know there are children out there with such immense power? But no matter what, you’ll never see the end coming; without giving spoilers for those who haven’t seen it, we’ll tell you that it’s quite the twist.

Venture into the best anime like Charlotte, where supernatural drama collides with compelling storytelling. Angel Beats!, Erased, and Your Name are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to series that echo the emotional and fantastical atmosphere of Charlotte. What makes these anime similar to Charlotte is their ability to meld the supernatural with profound human experiences, pulling at the heartstrings while also delivering riveting narratives. Prepare to traverse through tales that are beautifully animated, with intricate plotlines and characters that resonate deeply.

Consider Angel Beats!, a masterful blend of life, death, and the afterlife, where a group of students fights for their existence in a high school purgatory. Its similarities to Charlotte lie in its exploration of youth, loss, and the supernatural, coupled with a script filled with humor and pathos. Erased, on the other hand, offers a thrilling twist of time travel, where a young man races against the clock to save his childhood classmates from grim fates. The emotional stakes and the gripping supernatural twist make it akin to Charlotte's style. Your Name presents a breathtaking tale of body-swapping teenagers trying to alter fate, bridging everyday life with supernatural occurrences in a visually stunning package. These anime are merely a glance at some of the best that parallel the essence of Charlotte.

If you’re one of the fans that have already watched this show, you probably want something else that will fill your supernatural needs. Whether you’re looking for the blatant oddities in the world or for just exceptional high school students, these are some of the series you should definitely consider adding to your watchlist for a good binge-watching session!

  • When Satoru Fujinuma is sent back several minutes before a tragedy strikes, he realizes he may have the power to time travel. Using this power to go back in time to save various lives, Satoru finds his power of "revival" to be an incredible gift. That is until he's been accused of murdering someone close to him. This time, he's sent back 18 years and finds a connection to a crime that took place when he was a child. The act of going back in time to save those we love is something Charlotte was able to touch on and something you'll definitely enjoy in Erased. Just be prepared that this is a very emotional anime series that will certainly mess with you.

    Angel Beats!

Otonashi can only remember one thing; his name. After realizing he's dead, he finds himself paired up with a girl named Yuri who's a little more than strange. Toting around heavy weapons, Yuri tells him that she is at war with a girl named Tenshi in a battle known as the Shinda Sekai Sensen. Despite all the negative things said about Tenshi, Otonashi finds himself drawn to her and slowly unveils what's really going on in the afterlife. Charlotte had some pretty intense twists, so if you'd like something that also has a massive hidden secret throughout most of the show, consider Angel Beats! your next anime!

  • Mitsuha Miyamizu feels as though she lives a relatively boring life when she one day wakes up in the wrong body. She and the owner of the body, Taki Tachibana, begin talking frequently through their mishaps of waking up in the shoes of the other's life. However, Taki soon realizes that something is terribly wrong and that, together, they may have a rare opportunity to make a big difference. While this may not be a series, the movie is simply astounding; everything from the story to the art style is perfect. If you're a fan of the strange and unusual, give it a watch!

  • Ryuu Yamada was hoping that he wouldn't have to revert to his old ways of being a delinquent, but after just transferring to a new school he finds himself bored. After an accidental kiss with the honor student, Urara Shiraishi, he finds out that he can switch bodies with her! This leads the student council officer and leader of the Supernatural Studies Club, Toranosuke Miyamura, to recruit them for their newfound power. While this anime is certainly more light-hearted than Charlotte, it's nature of being a group of super-powered students and strange occurrences makes it a great anime to cheer up with after such a serious show!

  • The exiled prince, Lelouch vi Britannia, has one goal; to destroy the country that he once ruled over. After getting involved with a terrorist attack through unfortunate circumstances, he meets a girl named C.C. and makes a pact with her. She grants him the power of the Geass, also called the "Power of Kings". This newfound power will allow him to command anyone, even if it is against their own free will. With the obvious connection to the supernatural, especially the act of convincing people what to do, Code Geass is definitely a huge step up from Charlotte. The plot and writing are amazing, plus there are tons of episodes to binge watch!

  • The Literature Club has just found out they have supernatural powers for no reason they can think of. Each of the five members discovers that these powers are exceptionally strong; some can manipulate the elements while others can change time itself. However, none of the members are quite sure why they were given these powers and want to figure out where they came from. This comedy harem is sure to lighten the mood after you've finished watching Charlotte

    Orange

Charlotte has a lot of time traveling aspects thrown in it due to the supernatural nature of each character's power. If this is partially what drew you into the series in the first place, we have another series you'll love to watch. Naho Takamiya recieves a letter from herself, 10 years in the future. In the letter, she asks herself to change different events that lead up to a huge regret; something that seems to revolve around the new transfer student, Kakeru Naruse. Together with her friends, they may be able to change the past

Banded together as misfits, the students find they'll be sharing more than just their personal space with each other. • Charlotte did have some tear-jerking moments, but it'll be nothing compared to Clannad if you choose to watch this next. Feeling like he'll never amount to anything special, Tomoya Okazaki decides he'll waste away his days doing nothing. That is until he meets Nagisa Furukawa, a girl that proclaims them friends randomly. Even though he tried to shrug her off, Tomoya starts to notice her more and more, finally giving in. Learning more about her and the other girls he meets, he slowly begins to feel a sense of purpose again. Charlotte couldn't take you on as intense of a feels trip as this.

    Sakurada Reset

    Sakurada Reset

Sakurada is no ordinary town; most of its population are born with supernatural abilities. One of the inhabitants of this town, Misora Haruki, has the ability to reset anything around her up to three days prior. No one around her, including herself, seems to know that she's reset except for Kei Asai; a boy with the ability of a photographic memory. By combining their powers, they're able to help a lot of people, even though it comes at a price when their tasks become more serious. This anime series is perhaps one of the closest to Charlotte's storyline; it holds a supernatural mystery and includes individual students getting involved with very heavy topics.

    Code:Breaker

When Sakurakouji Sakura sees people being burned alive by a blue flame and a boy her age standing, unaffected, over them, she's incredibly spooked. Going back the next day, however, she finds that there's nothing there except for a small fire. The boy, on the other hand, seems to have transferred into her class. Oogami Rei is a Code Breaker that technically does not exist; his code is to fight evil with evil no matter the cost. Sakurakouji decides she will try to change his mind about killing no matter what.

  • A show about magical girls may seem far from the theme of Charlotte, but if you haven't seen Magi Madoka yet, you're going to want to! Madoka Kaname is your average girl until she encounters a strange, cat-like creature that calls itself Kyubey and a mysterious transfer student named Homura Akemi who seems keen to kill it. If you make a deal with Kyubey, he will grant you any wish in exchange for becoming a magical girl and fighting witches. However, not everything is as it appears. With many of the same uneasy elements and the supernatural experiences of young students, Magi Madoka has a lot to offer fans of Charlotte
