Nail of the Day: Elevation Polish SBP Fireflies in a Dark Meadow

Nothing to Disclose
*This product is Cruelty Free

I have just a really quick Nail of the Day for you...no mucking about, just photos!

If you're not familiar, SBP stands for Small Batch Prototype and they are available in very limited quantities on the 7th and 22nd of each month during re-stocks. (Information in the link.)

Elevation Polish SBP Fireflies in a Dark Meadow

The sun was trying, but it couldn't quite make it.
Three light coats with no top coat for all photos. Perfect formula!

Artificial lighting...

And this is Murphy finally getting to nap outside - it's been so cold this is the first day it was near 60 and both dogs took full advantage. He was photo-bombing me but I cropped him out, so he gets a shot all his own.

Elevation Polish releases new collections on the 7th of each month and re-stocks on the 7th and 22nd of each month, along with OOAK (One of a Kinds, which I'm never fast enough to grab) and SBPs, which this is. The time on the 7th is 9 PM CST and the 22nd the shop opens at 9 AM CST. So if you want this one, get your fingers ready for 9 AM Central on the 22nd, which is a Thursday.

Flaky Comparison: Darling Diva Girlfriends Collection vs Finger Paints

Press Sample/Purchased by Me

As promised, I'm back with a comparison between the new Darling Diva Girlfriends Collection flakies and the old Finger Paints flakies from a few years ago.

First, you can see that the bases are vastly different in the bottle. It doesn't really make a difference if you layer them over black but I have a feeling you could tell if you layered the Finger Paints over any other color. They would be yellow-tinted. Darling Diva's are clear so you could wear those over any shade.

I've matched them up as best I could and except for one (and the base) they are pretty close.

Finger Paints Asylum didn't match anything except the Finger Paints Twisted/DDP The Hottest Hottie That Ever Hottied. I knew they were pretty much dupes for each other (without quite as much of a green shift) back then but I'd forgotten. The base was a smidge thicker in the Finger Paints ones.

Darling Diva Polish's Girlfriends Collection polishes are available now and the Finger Paints ones have long been discontinued.

I don't have Nfu-Oh flakies to compare.

Hope this helps!

Darling Diva Polishes are available at her BigCartel Shop here (and some at her Etsy Store here) and at Llarowe. Darling Diva Polish: The Opal Collection - Swatches and Review

*These products are Cruelty Free

DARLING DIVA POLISH
The opal COLLECTION

Tonight I have a wonderful new flaky collection from Darling Diva Polish called The Opal Collection.

The Opal Collection is made up of 7 new shades of jelly flakies that can be layered or worn alone. In order to suspend the flakes and iridescent glitters and holo shimmer goodness, they are a bit thicker than a regular topper, which is why they build to opacity in 2 to 3 coats (most in 2 coats) and I would recommend layering the lighter shades (Opal and Blue Opal). I had no issues with formula or application on any of them! You will need to excuse my ravaged cuticles though. When "winter weather" actually makes it to South Texas my cuticles are the first thing to revolt.

Color Club - The Uptown

*This product is Cruelty Free

This morning I have one of the new Color Club polishes to show you from their new Girl About Town Collection...The Uptown.

The Uptown is a multi-chrome flake polish in a purple-tinted sheer base. The flakes came out of the bottle easily and spread nicely on the nail. The flakes shift from copper to green to gold. No issues to report at all. One coat of Poshe top coat for all photos.

Koh Colours! Down Under - Swatches and Review

Saturday night and I'm pulling another Koh from the vaults!

According to Koh Colours! all of their polishes are infused with topaz to give them a hard and lasting finish. Koh is a Dutch cosmetics company. Down Under is a warm, brown based jelly full of iridescent flakies. Application was good and I used three coats for full opacity. Best to use 3 thin coats instead of two heavier ones to avoid pooling around the edges. No issues, though! Another great Koh flaky polish!

These polishes are a bit harder to come by for those of us in the States, but they can be ordered directly from the Koh Colours! website if you fancy a bit of a challenge. It's certainly doable. The shipping can be a killer though. Thankfully these were obtained via a swap with a sweetheart of a nail polish addict in Europe. They retail from €14,95 to €19,95.

Have you tried Koh yet? what do you think of it?

piCture pOlish Blogfest 2012, Bay-Bee!

Today is piCture pOlish Blogfest 2012 - going on all around the world RIGHT NOW - a day when bloggers like me, all across the web, each post photos of new piCture pOlish shades.

So excited to be a part of it this year! Taking over the blogosphere for a day (actually 48 hours since it's tomorrow in Australia LOL) is exhilarating!

Shamelessly inserting teaser photo here:

piCture pOlish is an Australian brand that provides international shipping of nail polish as well as many other things. One of the most fun features of the piCture pOlish brand, in my opinion, is that they give you the option to customize your own bottle labels or even create your own line of nail polish through them! How cool is that?

The polishes selected for me to show you today are stunning! I must admit that I was a tad apprehensive. You know, you're never sure if you're going to like the polishes and I wasn't looking forward to the possibility of having to give a poor review. But I would have, had the situation called for it. As I've said many times, if the integrity of this blog is lost, I might as well stop. Thankfully, I worried needlessly!

May I present two of piCture pOlish's newest offerings...Amethyst and Dorothy:

Notice the QR Code on the bottle! More on that later.

First up, Amethyst.

piCture pOlish Amethyst

Amethyst is a new and very special polish from the Collaboration Collection. This polish was jointly created by piCture pOlish and Susan from Star Trinkets, a Singapore network member, and is available exclusively through piCture pOlish and Star Trinkets. The name "Amethyst," as the bottle suggests, "guards against intoxication." The Romans used amethyst to protect against intoxication, to encourage trust and to give calmness in danger. Well, I can vouch for the fact that I did not get intoxicated while wearing it and I stayed calm. Draw your own conclusions! For more of the back story on the name, you can google Dionysus. I find it fascinating, but I know most of you are here for the polish p0rn!

Amethyst appears to me to be a somewhat dusty violet purple with violet and blue shimmer, lavender flakes and silver micro-glitter. I LOVE the flakes. It's a bit hard to capture the true color, as is the norm for me with purples. The first photos are color-accurate, but I will also show you how it looks in various lighting. The formula was smooth and easy. The brush is medium and round and it splayed well. I used two coats for full opacity. If you're familiar with piCture pOlish Denim, this is the purple version. WOOT!

The second polish I'll be showing you is Dorothy.

piCture pOlish Dorothy

piCture pOlish is calling Dorothy one of their new MESH shades. I won't elaborate much on the name of this one. The bottle says "created for the Land of Oz." I am sure you can all appreciate the double meaning (the ruby slippers Dorothy wore in the Wizard of Oz and the fact that it was created in the real Land of Oz) so I'll let you work out how clever that is on your own. This polish is available from piCture pOlish and ALL Network Members.

Dorothy is a red base full of hot pink and silver glass fleck glitter pieces. I've included some close ups, both shiny and matte, so you can see for yourselves what MESH is. This polish went on smoothly and easily and was opaque in two coats. It has the same medium round brush that splayed well and it removes like a foil polish. I'm showing it with and without top coat and also with a matte top coat.

I've told you how you can create your own bottle labels or even your own polish line with piCture pOlish, but I also showed a photo with a special label containing a QR Code earlier. Most of you with smart phones will already know what that is, but if you don't, those are scannable codes you can scan with your phone and immediately be directed to details about where to purchase that product.

The Network. This program brings piCture pOlish to you through their network of members worldwide. By clicking on The Network on their site, you will be given a list of Network Members all around the world who carry piCture pOlish shades. Easy-peasy! The Network Members for the US are Kim at Overall Beauty and Leah Ann at Llarowe and for Canada it's Katie at Harlow and Company.

So what are you waiting for? Go! Go to the piCture pOlish site here and be sure and visit them on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. And don't forget to show Susan at Star Trinkets some love too - Amethyst was awesome!
