Shoebox Swaps - Card Set and Box

This Card Set and the matching Card Boxes are the project I shared for our Stampin' Retreat Shoebox Swap. I used a pattern I found online and then altered it for my preferences. The card layout is the same as the Washi Tape card I made last week - a simple but attractive layout that lends itself to showcasing beautiful pattern paper.

Again with the creative license - everyone made theirs in the theme they'd like. I first had them choose the sheet of pattern paper they wanted to used, then from there it was easy to choose the box cardstock and the cardstock for the cards and card mats and the coordinating ribbon.

Each set of 4 cards and the coordinating box uses just less than a single sheet of DSP. I cut the DSP into these pieces - 4 each at 2 1/2" x 4" and 1 piece at 2 3/8" x 4 1/8". The odd sized piece is for the front of the card box. The 4 other pieces are for the cards.

To assemble the cards, punch out a 1 3/8" Circle from each of the four pieces. Then use a sticky note to hold the punched circle and punch it with the 1 1/4" Circle Punch. When assembling the cards, place the reverse side of the 1 1/4" Circle Punch of DSP inside the larger DSP. Two cards of each side.

We also cut 1/" x 5 1/2" strips of the same DSP to layer on the card liner inside. I added a banner sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes to my card fronts across the circle element, but some cards were made with such beautiful DSP that they were made without a sentiment banner.

Beautiful and Sassy Jacque - Christmas Cards

More beauties from the Stampin' Retreat this month at the Chocolate Moose Lodge! Mrs Jacqueline Raila, Queen of Elaborate and Hostess with the Mostess, organized our weekend, wined and dined us, and pulled together several Christmas cards for us to make at our Shoebox Swap.

Most of these are not Stampin 'Up! sets, but the images and the cards are beautiful and the new techniques and products were fun to play with.

I'm sure there was one more Christmas Card, but again, cannot find the picture of it, nor can I find my original card.

Sweet Lisa Oates - One Sheet Mini Gift Bags

Our Shoebox Swaps at the Stampin' Retreat weekend were so fun and incredibly fabulous. These One Sheet Gift Bags were also shared by Ms Lisa. Again, we had complete creative freedom, which can be most difficult at times! ;)

The template for these gift bags are from Silvey's Stamp Room, you can find her instructions here. These are an adorable size and can be customized to every theme. Here's the collection that we made. There were a few others I know - we could not stop making them as ideas kept flowing and they really are so easy. Apparently I didn't get a picture of the others.

Stamping on Candles - One of our Shoebox Swaps

I spent a weekend in the mountains on a Stampin' Retreat and it was quite lovely. We stayed at the Chocolate Moose Lodge at over 10,000 feet, (the baseball field nearby is called Two Mile High Baseball Stadium - love that) but let me tell you that the pictures on their website do it no justice! We were a small group and it was the best weekend and so relaxing! We shared food and drink duties and brought Shoebox Swaps for each other to create. Lisa brought Stamping on Candles for us to create and everyone made such beautiful candles!

Stamping on Candles is such a simple project and so WOW! I loved that Lisa brought these for us to make and she gave us complete freedom on our designs, themes and ideas.

To create this embedded look of Stamped Candles, stamp the images on tissue paper. Then wrap it around the candle and wrap that with a a long piece of Wax Paper. Hold the Wax Paper tight around the candle and heat the images with a Heat Gun. You will see the images get shiny and embed themselves. Move the Heat Gun quickly around and over the images until complete. You can peek under the Wax Paper and check on your progress as you go.

Three tips that Lisa shared are 1) Add images separately and one at a time, instead of trying to stamp and wrap the entire candle at once and  2)Wrap and hold the Wax Paper tightly to keep the candle surface smooth and 3) Embellish the images with Embossing (before heating to candle) and Jewels and Brads, pushed into the candle.

Stamped Candles are a beautiful and so simple way to pull a setting or theme together for holidays or events. Try this technique on some pillars or mix together large and small candles. Just one candle and you'll find yourself hooked and stamping on candles for so many themes and colors!
