Amazon’s Black Business Accelerator is celebrating National Black Business Month, a time to recognize, celebrate, and support Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs across the U.S. More than 60% of sales in Amazon’s store come from independent sellers—most of which are small and medium-sized businesses—and we aim to enable opportunities for Black-owned businesses, so they too can launch and build thriving businesses in our store and beyond. This year #AmazonBBA celebrates Black Business Month with David Price of The Safety Pouch, Janell Stephens, Founder and CEO of Camille Rose, and Shakira Hodges and Deydra Bringa, Co-Founders of Trivia For Us, as they discuss why Amazon BBA and Black Business Month is important to them.

The wonderful thing about small businesses is that they are often rooted in community. This is true for Angus Junkin, a former landscaper turned small business owner. People would ask him how to garden. That's when he came up with Garden Tutor, a kit designed to teach people where to begin. Junkin began selling his kits in the Amazon store in 2019, which he says helped him build awareness of his product. Customer feedback from the Amazon store has given Junkin valuable insights on what matters most to customers and has also been an inspiration for new innovations. Today, Garden Tutor works with a local nonprofit organization called PRIDE, which offers jobs to individuals who would otherwise have difficulty getting one. These individuals help with kitting and fulfillment. "I love the idea that you can put some little seed into the ground, and it can turn into this remarkably beautiful plant," said Junkin. “What's the simplest low-sugar way to get minerals into my body?" Kris Buchanan, a former Olympic, World Cup, and University of Iowa field hockey player, was looking for better ways to nourish and hydrate her body. This led her to create GOODONYA Organic Hydration, an organic food restaurant and beverage brand. The brand’s product, GOODONYA HYDRATE, is a certified organic electrolyte powder that's perfect for anyone seeking a healthier hydration option. Her advice to fellow sellers: Understand your brand’s unique value and make sure it’s clear in your Amazon listings.
