On July 26, WBD and TBS filed suit in New York against the NBA, NBA Media Ventures and NBA Properties, asserting that they exercised their “matching rights” by accepting an offer that the NBA was willing to extend to Amazon in a new media rights deal with the streamer, fellow newcomer NBCUniversal and current NBA broadcaster ESPN. WBD and TBS imply that this gives them the right to broadcast NBA games from the 2025-26 season through 2035-36—as they have for the past 40 years—while the NBA claims WBD and TBS fell short of that match. The complaint demands a jury trial to determine monetary damages and an injunction against the NBA deal with Amazon that also declares WBD and TBS’ offer a “match.” https://adweek.it/4fAGhSI

High prices are hitting a tipping point with consumers frustrated with the growing cost of products. While inflation has recently cooled a bit, big brands like McDonald’s and Starbucks are blaming increased prices over the past few years for sluggish sales. “The inflation impact, coupled with historically low savings rate has created a more cautious price-sensitive consumer,” executive vice president Melanie Boulden said during Tyson Foods’ second-quarter earnings call. “And we’re also seeing a cautious consumer prioritized essential staples over discretionary categories.” https://adweek.it/3AajKfh
