Work is now underway on a new £20 million mental health unit in Bristol, which will provide support to people with a learning disability or autism. Hydrock, now Stantec was involved in the site appraisal process, and we're working alongside Ryder Architecture as part of a wider team put together by Willmott Dixon to provide a scheme that meets the needs of users and staff, all within a sustainable building that keeps energy demands as low as possible. The facility, run by Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust, is set to open in 2025 and will provide support to up to 10 patients. #healthcare #NHS https://lnkd.in/eWqWDyF7

With Manchester Pride🏳️🌈 just around the corner, we caught up with graduate nuclear consultant Andrea Johnson, who has been busy preparing for the event alongside our new Stantec colleagues and the Building Equality network. Andrea recently attended Sparkle Weekend in Manchester's Sackville Gardens, meeting fellow members of the Building Equality network at the stand - which featured a banner funded by Hydrock, now Stantec - and she says there's plenty more in the pipeline over the coming weeks: "I'll be attending a Building Equality Craft Night in a couple of weeks to help make decorations and banners for the Manchester Pride Parade, and will be walking with Building Equality in the parade itself." Give Andrea a 👋if you spot her at Manchester Pride on 24 August! #ManchesterPride #BuildingEquality #LGBTQIA

Can sporting events help 'normalise' making sustainable choices? We hope so. As Bristol Sport's Net Zero Partner we backed a range of projects organised for the Green Football Weekend and ‘Go Green’ rugby game earlier this year. These included: 🚌 a free shuttle bus for fans 🚲 free bike servicing 🥗 plant-based food options ♻️ recycling points We collected and analysed the data to quantify their impacts. The result? The events saved 4,061kg of carbon dioxide equivalent, which equates to 15,395 miles driven in a petrol car (that's roughly driving from Nice, France to Cape Town, South Africa - and back again - if you were wondering 🤯). Professional sport has a great opportunity to lead the way in how we as society adapt to climate change and make sustainable choices, bringing about positive changes for local communities. Purpose-built with deaf students in mind, The Deaf Academy in Exmouth has set something of a standard for what inclusive design can achieve. The school was developed in line with DeafSpace standards and the latest technologies in deaf education. Wellbeing, inclusion and visual communication were put first during the design process, resulting in calm spaces flooded with natural light and wide corridors with sounded corners. How did we help? 🏫 Our structural engineers maximised the re-use of existing buildings. 🌲 Any building materials were locally and sustainably sourced. 🌤️ New buildings have controllable daylight and natural ventilation baked in. 🏗️ Lightweight steel framing and composite slabs enabled open, column-free adaptable teaching spaces. They are co-creating the first UK Climate Resilience Roadmap for the built environment - a practical, evidence-based guide to help the industry adapt to climate change, protect people, and support ecosystems. They want professionals across the industry to review and give feedback on the current proposals - to make sure we're all on the same page. ✍ Be part of it here: https://lnkd.in/gC_Z5Bsi #UKGBC #ClimateResilienceRoadmap

How can we protect people and assets in high rise buildings and giga project developments? 🏗️🏗️ Our director of Fire Engineering for the Middle East, Peter Stephenson, joined the Fire Middle East Conference to chair a session covering this important topic. He was joined by fire protection experts Mark Fessenden, Khalid Almandil and Adam Hessel. In case you missed it, two of our projects took home awards at the recent Constructing Excellence South West awards! 🏆 Winterstoke Hundred Academy won the Environmental, Social and Governance Award (Project) 🏆 Bristol Beacon was awarded Retrofit and Refurbishment Project of the Year AND Building Project of the Year Over £5M! We helped to deliver ground-breaking design solutions for the new school just outside Weston-Super-Mare, including achieving a BREEAM 'Excellent' rating and the eye-catching front façade, supported by a cantilevering steelwork structure. We were also lucky enough to be involved in breathing new life into an iconic building like Bristol Beacon, delivering MEP design for its new era. Huge congratulations again to our project partners and all the worthy winners on the night! #CESWAwards
