This morning, some of our West Midlands team completed the National Three Peaks Challenge! ⛰️⛰️⛰️ The team conquered the highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon). They took on this challenge to support two charities: ▪️ PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide – a charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide in young people ▪️ The Whistle Foundation – a Midlands-based charity that aims to bring sport to every child If you'd like to make a donation to support the team's chosen charities, here is a link to their JustGiving page: https://orlo.uk/io6PB Thank you to everyone who has donated or shared messages of support so far!

To close #ZeroWasteWeek we're sharing how digital technology is helping improve our understanding of the materials we use and waste we create on site. 🗑️♻️ Since the start of the year, we've been using a new environmental data capture system - BRE's SmartWaste - the industry standard for recording and reporting environmental data, such as waste. SmartWaste allow us to accurately report the reuse, recycling and recovery of all waste types from all phases of our projects. 🗑️♻️ SmartWaste also allows us to connect with more and more of our waste partners, with increased collaboration improving efficiency and accuracy of our waste data reporting. Nottingham City Council's 'Green Heart' at Broad Marsh is officially open to the public 🎉 We demolished the old shopping centre on the site in 2021, which has opened up 20-acres of space that is ripe for regeneration! We then returned to the site to deliver the Green Heart. This new public realm plays an important role in giving the space back to the local community, creating a biodiverse, natural haven in the city centre. The new space: 💚 Provides 438% biodiversity net gain, delivered through a new 'marsh', trees, shrubs and wildflowers 💚 Is perfect for the the whole community to enjoy - whether that's families, shoppers or workers 💚 Drives connectivity in the city centre, opening up thoroughfares between the train station, Nottingham Castle and the Island Quarter 💚 Proudly shows off Nottingham's heritage; paving and seating are carved from sandstone to mimic the feel of Nottingham's famous caves Find out more about the project here: https://orlo.uk/ipxDd SCAPE | Townshend Landscape Architects | Ares Landscape Architects Ltd | Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust | Pick Everard | ProCon Nottinghamshire Ltd | #TeamSCAPE #LoveConstruction #ConstructionUK #UrbanRegeneration #CityCentreRegen #BiodiversityNetGain #Sustainability

For #ZeroWasteWeek, we're highlighting our work with FORE Partnership at TBC London, where steel reuse is setting new standards in sustainable construction. Steel is one of the most resource-intensive materials used in construction, but at TBC London, the customer's decision to refurbish and re-use materials has significantly reduced waste and the carbon footprints associated with new steel production, ensuring materials are kept in use for as long as possible. This is the future of construction—circular, sustainable, and forward-thinking. We're excited to have been appointed by the Department for Education (DfE) to deliver a new £48.8m net zero carbon in operation (NZCiO) campus redevelopment for Wigan & Leigh College and University Centre. The project will create a new three-storey state-of-the-art learning environment at the college’s Parsons Walk Campus where over 3,400 students study every day. Procured using the DfE construction framework, sustainability is at the heart of the project which aims to achieve a 40% biodiversity net gain with extensive soft landscaping, while sustainability features include photovoltaic solar panels to harness renewable energy and offset all energy used on site. We're committed to investing in local skills and organisations, with a focus on opportunities for young and unemployed Wigan residents. As part of that, we will create 200 weeks of apprenticeships, support 15 T-level placements, deliver 180 weeks of work experience and engage hundreds of local students. Our education experts recently delivered the DfE’s flagship NZCiO Tarleton Academy in Preston and Brian Clarke Academy in Oldham. We are also now on-site building Bridgend College Town Centre Campus, which is also set to be NZCiO. Read more: https://lnkd.in/etK6q6UP

As part of #ZeroWasteWeek, we’re showing innovative ways we can divert materials from landfill. Our goal is to eliminate all avoidable waste by 2030. But when waste can also benefit our communities, that’s a win-win. At the new forensics centre for Thames Valley Police, we've donated boxes of leftover plumbing fixtures to local college students, helping them gain practical experience. We’ve also repurposed fitted kitchens and other items for use in prisons, colleges, and community centres. By saving materials from the skip, we can not only reduce waste but bring added value for our communities. #zerowaste #materials #circulareconomy #woodwaste #sustainabledevelopment #construction #waste #wastemanagement #reducewaste #reducereuserecycle #nowornever

The roll out of Leicestershire County Council's new generation of net-zero carbon in operation schools continues with Wellington Place Primary School! The doors to the school in Market Harborough have recently opened, ready to welcome students for the 2024 academic year. Procured through Procurement Hub, the 210-place primary school is the second net-zero operation school in the county, following on from Hollycroft Primary School that we handed over in 2023. Driven by a need to provide school places for a new, 924-house development scheme, the school was funded through section 106 funding from developers William Davis Homes and Taylor Wimpey plc, and money from the Government’s Basic Need Funding for schools. For #ZeroWasteWeek, we’re spotlighting our collaboration with The Pallet Loop — a game-changer in reducing avoidable waste from the construction industry. Currently, most delivery pallets end up as timber waste. The Pallet LOOP is transforming the way building materials are distributed across the country by engineering pallets that can be re-used many times. Last year they collected 21,500 pallets from our sites. That's the equivalent of around 2,150 trees and has saved over £100k in waste disposal for our customers. We look forward to further collaboration to eliminate timber waste from our sites. #zerowaste #circulareconomy #woodwaste #sustainabledevelopment #construction #waste #wastemanagement #reducewaste #reducereuserecycle #nowornever

To celebrate #ZeroWasteWeek we're sharing ways we have reduced construction waste on projects as part of our aim to eliminate all avoidable construction waste by 2030. ♻ Every project gets it own plan to reduce waste at all stages using best practice learned from similar projects. ♻ These plans are working; since 2012, we’ve cut absolute construction waste by 57%, saving over £34 million through reduced disposal costs and by reclaiming materials on-site. ♻ We report our waste performance annually, and have it independently verified by Bureau Veritas.
