Progress on the Teesside project with Community Nuclear Power as we begin initial site assessments for potential nuclear use at North Tees! We are assessing seismicity, flood risk, and ecological impact per government guidelines. These assessments will provide key data for our Development Consent Order (DCO) application, reducing risk and ensuring the project’s readiness for the next phase. With stakeholder confidence growing, this step strengthens the future of the UK nuclear industry as we support UK plc in achieving net zero by 2050. #WeAreWSP #Nuclear #Teeside
An important leap forward this week on our #Teesside project, with the commissioning of initial land assessments. Infrastructure and development experts WSP in the UK will be assessing the site in North Tees for suitability for nuclear use, against the criteria set out in Government’s policy statement for siting new #nuclear – such as seismicity, ecological impact, flood risk, and so on. This will give us the depth and breadth of data needed to start the formal application for a development consent order (#DCO), which is required for infrastructure projects of this scale and national importance. Our early characterisation of the land gave us broad confidence from the start, but the next level of assessment over the coming weeks is more than just another item ticked off on our delivery schedule. It is another degree of programme risk removed and certainty added. Demonstrating the site’s suitability for nuclear build will build more stakeholder assurance and momentum, and create our readiness for the highly detailed assessments and consultations in the DCO process. Our Cheltenham office team recently had a successful day of volunteering at the Gloucester Royal Hospital, transforming the gardens and implementing sustainable solutions for Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity. Here’s what we accomplished: Commemorative Garden: Weeded, planted, mulched, and re-gravelled pathways to help keep the garden thriving. Coffee compost area: Built a new area for coffee granule disposal, helping the hospital reduce waste management costs. Polytunnel groundwork: Laid 8 tonnes of hardcore, weeded, and planted trees and plants in pots, preparing for the arrival of the new polytunnel. We’re excited to return on 30 September for another day of volunteering! 🌳 🌼 #WSPGLHearn #Volunteering

Great to see our Technical Director, Bedanuj Dasgupta and Undergraduate Project Manager, Beth Winterbottom, fulfilling the roles of construction manager and volunteer in this project! They will participate as part of our WSP global team which will be deployed this autumn to help build a suspended bridge with a 75-metre span in the Nyaruguru District, Rwanda. Since 2010, our partnership with Bridges to Prosperity has helped improve nearly 60,000 lives by creating vital access routes with18 bridges throughout Bolivia, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama, and Rwanda. Soon, three new teams will depart for Rwanda to construct trail bridges in isolated regions. These bridges will ensure safe, year-round access to work, school, and healthcare.
