Shifo Foundation
Ideella organisationer
Nonprofit Swedish health tech transforming how data is collected and used in lower-income countries' health systems.
Om oss
We are building RBF 2.0 Solution, to enable Governments to run Results-Based Financing at national level. 95% of all external funds coming to the country should go towards Results-Based Financing to Health Centres, Health Workers and District Team, and only 5% should go for administration/overheads at the central level. This is the only way to guarantee sustainable capacity building, boosting health worker salaries, numbers and motivation to better serve patients, improving and sustaining high performance, and making sure countries have strong health systems and capacity to move forward independently from the donors. As a result, our sustainable and cost-saving solutions automatically identify KPIs and under performances along the health service delivery, making visible gaps and opportunities in a systematic manner, in which public health decision-makers of all levels can immediately implement improvements and seek the root causes of inefficiencies. Also, we are the only organisation able to scale the collection and use of health data at a national level, establishing a culture of data to solve healthcare's greatest challenges.

The Smart Paper Technology (SPT) 📄📲 solution connects EPI 💉 and ANC 🤰🏽services together, creating a unique link between a mother and her child. With the introduction of new maternal vaccines, this will, among all, enable efficient monitoring of pregnancy outcomes and reporting of AESIs. In line with the Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine work, more than ❗️1,300❗️children are now linked to their mothers through the SPT solution in one of the busiest sites in The Gambia 🇬🇲 Congratulations 👏
Get Ready Get Real Project hosts a two-day meeting with 20 health professionals from 8 Sub-Saharan African countries gathered to strategise effective approaches for reaching women during the critical gestational age window of 24-36 weeks. The meeting is addressing challenges and opportunities related to maternal immunisation, focusing on respiratory syncytial virus and Group B Streptococcus. This is part of our efforts to address challenges related to maternal immunisation in Africa & contribute to saving lives across the continent.

The Gambia 🇬🇲 is the very first country, where a link between a mother and her child has been established using the paper-to-digital solution 📄📲 Smart Paper Technology (SPT), and where existing paper registers were replaced for the whole primary healthcare in one of the busiest hospitals. This gives a unique opportunity to not only follow the woman through her pregnancy journey and her children through immunisation, but also any other future visits - creating comprehensive, longitudinal medical records. Representatives from 5 different countries (Nepal 🇳🇵, Bangladesh 🇧🇩, Nigeria 🇳🇬, Tanzania 🇹🇿 and Uganda 🇺🇬) visited Bundung Maternal & Child Health Hospital to see SPT in action, and strategise on how to implement the technology in their own settings. Special thanks to the hospital staff, the Ministry of Health - The Gambia, and the Medical Research Council Unit The Gambia at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine team, with whom we have made this successful. 👏

Shifo participated in the Swedish Philanthropy Summit 2023 to share our perspective on how external aid can be made more effective and impactful. Money is important, and, how it is spent and who benefits from it, is even more important to consider, especially for improving health service delivery. Shifo believes that more of the funds should go directly to the health centres and to the health workers, if we want to dramatically improve performance of the health service delivery and keep it at the high level. Video of the whole summit can be watched here: https://lnkd.in/djhCSJKM

Congratulations to the Ministry of Health - The Gambia, Bundung Hospital and Shifo Team, for achieving this milestone. For the first time, Smart Paper Technology has been implemented to digitise patient records for Outpatient Department in Bundung Hospital, one of the biggest hospitals in The Gambia. This will bring major benefits to the health system in The Gambia, such as: 1. No more manual data entry to DHIS2 2. No more manual disease surveillance 3. No more manual data entry to National Health Insurance System 4. Faster verification and faster payments for OPD indicators 5. Automatic detection of missed opportunities for vaccination 6. Targeted detection of malaria, HIV and TB cases 7. And much more We will be learning from this implementation in coming months, and, fine-tuning the solution.
