I took part in the Hong Kong Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (HKVCA) China PE Summit yesterday, discussing the pivotal role of sustainability in investment strategies. Moderated by Mr. Duncan Chiu, our panel focused on the burgeoning opportunities in green tech and sustainability investments, especially in Asia and Hong Kong.   For over a decade, our family office has been a committed player in the green tech sector. Today, this commitment takes a new stride with the launch of our climate tech impact fund, AlphaTrio Capital. Empowering Sustainable Action: Innovation Sessions at the One Earth Summit 🌎 At the heart of the One Earth Summit is our core mission to mobilise capital for empowering innovations and driving sustainable action in every sector. The afternoon sessions at the summit brought this mission to life in the Palladium and Emerald Halls, each fostering innovative ideas for sustainable futures. Our Urban Development & Infrastructure session had a keynote by Christina Gaw and a panel discussion featuring Deepali Khanna, Gill Meller, Khan Yow, Rahul Chaudhary, and Vanessa Cheung, moderated by Andrew Young. The session on Water, Food, and Agriculture for a sustainable future featured a keynote from Yi Cui and an insightful panel discussion led by moderator Benjamin Cashore, with experts Dominic O’Neill, Kristian Teleki, Lesly Goh, and Marco Lambertini sharing their perspectives. Leo Horn-Phathanothai moderated the panel on Energy Transition, which was enriched with insights from panelists Michaela Kendall, Musaab AlMulla, Peter Wong Wai-yee, Rob Genieser, and TK Chiang. Our session on Circular Economy, Materials, and Industrial Decarbonisation began with a keynote by Kian Wee Seah. The panel discussion, moderated by Dimitrios Tsivrikos, included Alice Ho, Chandran Nair, Charles Ng, Clarence Leung, and Mark Cheng as panellists, contributing their expertise and insights. Finally, the session on Leadership, Strategy, and Action towards Net Zero was kicked off with a sustainable strategy keynote by Alpha Lau. The following panel discussion featured Amy Fong, Esther An, John Haffner, and Mark Harper, under the charismatic moderation of Catherine Zhu. In addition to the thought-provoking panel discussions, each session in the afternoon featured a number of incredible innovators who pitched their climate solutions. The innovator pitch sessions were powered by AlphaTrio Capital and included Antonia Da Cruz, Zac So and Golden Chen in the Urban Development and Infrastructure session, Alan Phua, Carrie Chan and Snehal Verma and Ziliang Yang in the Water, Food and Agriculture session, Michael Yap and David Tang in the Energy Transition session and Andi Tao, Sissi Chao and Sylvan Yu in the Circular Economy session. Each presentation was a testament to the ingenuity and determination inherent in our five core summit themes. These pitches not only captivated the audience but also served as a vibrant reminder of the creative potential and entrepreneurial spirit driving environmental innovation. As the organizer of the inaugural One Earth Summit, IST was thrilled by the positive response and feedback received from different parties. The summit featured 100 distinguished speakers and over 1,000 influential participants. We are grateful to the Hong Kong SAR government, especially our host partners FSTB and InvestHK, for providing expertise and support throughout this unique journey. We are also thankful for the trust given by our co-organizer, the GAEA team from the World Economic Forum, for bringing this summit to life. Family offices continuously redefine philanthropy across generations. Initially, many first-generation family business owners provided financial support to charitable organizations. However, today's younger generation is driven by a genuine desire to drive revolutionary impact and create lasting legacy in the world. I am delighted to participate in the research conducted by the Financial Times and share my perspectives on philanthropy. Embracing the principle of "Doing Well by Doing Good," I have established AlphaTrio sustainable technology fund, Institute of Sustainability and Technology, and Bodhi Love Foundation to promote personal and planetary well-being. As the eventful week in Davos wraps up, I could not be more inspired and energized by the intense discussions and ambitious initiatives. Clearly climate change is on top of the global agenda. I had the privilege of speaking on the Mainstreaming Ecopreneurs panel alongside Prince Max von und zu Liechtenstein and Arun Majumdar of Stanford. Our dialogue underscored the urgent need to shift the flow of capital to empower disruptive solutions in tackling environmental challenges. Especially in Asia, we have to leverage our rapid economic growth and technological advancements to empower green innovations and sustainable solutions. Another highlight was sharing thoughts on planetary boundaries with the esteemed Johan Rockström. Our panel New Era of Plantary Stewardship reminded us all to appreciate Mother Earth’s forgiveness and respect her limits in our pursuit of progress and growth. In true Davos fashion, the week was filled with multilevel meetings focused on forging powerful partnerships and making impact investing mainstream. At the Green Horizons Unveiled multilateral meeting, my dear journey mate Fred Tsao and I spoke about the urgent need for an impact revolution to transform our economies and direct the flow of capital to generate impact alongside profit. On Tues night, we officially launched the One Earth Alliance here in Davos. Together with 200 Forum participants from 40 countries, we unveiled our ambitious plans to drive impact investment across Asia and beyond. The overwhelming enthusiasm reflects the determination to foster strategic partnerships that transcend all boundaries and divisions to create a better world for all. As I reflect on the week, I'm filled with hope and determination. Yesterday, AlphaTrio Capital welcomed a group of enthusiastic and keen learners from The Univeristy of Hong Kong's Institute of Chinese Business. As I shared in my closing remarks at yesterday's AVCJ Forum, we're journeying through unprecedented terrain, transitioning from fossil fuels to sustainable energy. Waiting for perfect solutions isn't an option. Alarmingly, we have just 5.7 years left at the current emission rate before we breach the Paris Agreement's 1.5-degree limit. It's a journey into the unknown, but it's one we must embark on immediately. ESG is rapidly becoming a fundamental part of investment strategies.
