Bicycle Maru New Year Ride
A few shots from last Tuesday's Bicycle Maru New Year Ride. Maru was riding his very nice Salsa Marrakesh...
Now with added Bruce Gordon Rock n'Road goodness...
Takao-san had brought his beastly Blackborrow, this was going to be an off road adventure...
The destination was Yadayama Park a short but fairly constant climb. The sound of a fleet of fatbikes rolling along the quiet Nara morning roads is something to be heard...
Stopping on the way to meet up with Nuho-san who was keen to try out Takao's monster Salsa...
And Maru's demo bike...
Nuho had brought along his very nice Monk...
Up at the park we hooked up with Mike and Larry who had taken the sensible road way up...
There was more bike swapping action and then Maru and the crew took off further into the mountains. We took the easy descent down into Tomio with Mike and Larry for coffee, there's only so much cold, wet slippy off roading we can take these days!
A big thanks as always to Maru and the Nara crew for a fun and very tiring first ride of the year.

Salsa Marrakesh SS @ Bicycle Maru
Another stunner from Bicycle Maru. This custom single speed Salsa Marrakesh was actually built up earlier this year but after the original Velocity rear hub fell apart on the second ride it was back in the Maru workshop for a new wheelbuild, a perfect opportunity to grab a few shots...
The bike is built around the Fairweather (Nitto) Bullmoose bar...
With the Brooks non dead animal skin finishing kit...
Shimano Zee at the cranks...
And the new hubs are the enigmatic, classic Hadley Racing. Maru-san had to rebuild both wheels, warranty is a really sketchy issue in Japan so although Sim Works will reimburse him for the fucked up Velocity hub he won't be reimbursed for the time and effort of building two wheels again...
Oh and those are the classic Rindow Bullet Lights...
A beautiful build and hopefully now running longer than two rides. Follow Bicycle Maru on Instagram for more like this.

Salsa Marrakesh @ Bicycle Maru
Kentaro-san, owner of the wonderful Bicycle Maru in Nara is a very patient man. He has been in the process of building this Salsa Marrakesh for himself for the past 18 months! It was almost complete earlier this year and then a customer made him an offer for the original wheels he had built for it meaning a few more months of waiting for parts to arrive. It is now, as Kentaro-says "80% complete" (he's still waiting for custom bags), and it's a stunner...
It is a parts porn overload, Gevenalle shifters, Paul Clamper brakes, Chris King headset and hubs Shimano drive...
Rolling on 650B Velocity rims with those Sim Works "Homage" tyres and a very cool vintage Yanco Pad on the top tube...
Stylish Rindow Bikes Bullet Lights front and rear...
