Get ready for a Campus Party UK later this year! Find out more:

Structure inside the 6th edition of the Campus Party Brazil
The insidesaopaulo been accredited to attend the Campus Party 2013 and yesterday I ended up meeting a British delegation that was visiting the event. I had the chance to chat a bit with Rui Lopes, who works for the British Consulate-General Sao Paulo. He told me a little about the work done by them and introduced me to Obi Okuadigbo, Assistant Director of the Coventry University Tech Park. According to Obi, there is a great chance to Campus Party have an UK edition later this year. Check both interviews below:

You are bringing them here to see if there is an interest in bringing the Campus Party to UK?
Rui Lopes: We'll have a moment here on Campus Party called UK without borders, where it will be shown that the UK is open for education and entrepreneurship. In this panel, we will have representatives of four different institutions in the UK, among them is the Coventry University Tech Park, which is represented by Obi. He will talk about technology parks.

Our intention at Campus Party, is to make people understand this ecosystem that exists within the UK, which involves education. We came with the universities, and there will be a person talking about exchange opportunities, Master's Degree in the UK... We also have Ian Tracey, who will talk about the Science and Technology Facilities Council, which is an agency of the British government that funds research within the UK. While Obi will talk about the Tech Park, which is about the period when the person leaves the University and need support, a space that helps you to create your own business. At the end will be Simon Sprince from UK Trade and Investment, which is the British government body that supports UK companies to access other markets. It is an ecosystem that involves education, entrepreneurship and government support. We are trying to bring it to the Campus Party 2013.

Is there in the UK, any event organised in the same way as the Campus Party?
Rui Lopes: No. What is most like that in the UK, is the Digital Shoreditch Festival. Which we will be rewarding here at the Campus Party on January 31st (Thursday), in a competition called UKBR Place your Bets, where Brazilian startups — that are already enrolled —, will have the chance to have their pitches and a commission of British and Brazilian judges will choose a startup to receive R$ 6,000 to go to the festival in London. We already had a lecture by Mark Hillary, titled Modern Business - Gaining new clients through social media. His intention was to show that social media is not an enemy to businesses, but an ally.

Tell me more about the UKBrazil Season.
Rui Lopes: It's happening now, from September 2012 until March 2013. It is a series of events of various natures, where the British government is encouraging the creation of partnerships between the UK and Brazil. That, within a context of Olympic legacy, since the last Olympics was in London and the next will be in Rio. We want to increase the ties between the UK and Brazil. We want to strengthen these ties in different ways. Both with lectures at universities such as art exhibitions and more. We are bringing this British delegation here because we want the relationship between Brazil and the UK increases in many areas. We are here at Campus Party because it is one of the actions that we have prepared for the season.

"I know that if we can have it in the UK, it’s gonna be a phenomenon success!"

How are you feeling here at the Campus Party? There are a lot o people from many places...
Obi Okuadigbo: I know, it’s very interesting and there is a lot to taking. As you know the British Council invited us across here. I come from a technological park in the UK. We are interested in innovation and entrepreneur and this is something we are pushing out our country constantly. So, it’s interesting to see how many people actually turn up for this event, because it’s not what I’m familiar with.

Is it the first time you are here?
Obi Okuadigbo: Yes, it’s my first time in São Paulo.

This event also happens in Spain...
Obi Okuadigbo: For me anyway, it’s the first time I heard about it. But now we understand that in Spain, and also it was in Berlin too. We definitely are going to encourage our students of our University to attempt too.

Do you think it can help the project you guys are organising?
Obi Okuadigbo: Sure. A 100%. Going forward, we are on the knowledge based economy. The new bright ideas are going to come from the younger people. Having an environment where all young people can come together and bounce ideas each other because Uni is fantastic.

Personally, I really like the the period of time set for this event, where one week is more than enough, mainly for people getting in contact and sharing experiences.
Obi Okuadigbo: I know that if we can have it in the UK, it’s gonna be a phenomenon success. Definitely.

Do you think it’s really gonna happen in the UK?
Obi Okuadigbo: From speaking with the director here, it seems... there are positive messages it will happen in this year. If it does happen in this year, we’ll definitely be a part of it, and we will definitely encourage and actively promoted it in the UK.

If it happens in UK, are you guys open for the whole Europe as well, or the focus on the first one will be just in the UK?
Obi Okuadigbo: Well, I think that firstly in the UK so we can see how it goes, what the attendance is like, how well it was accepted and obviously if it is well accepted and we feel it’s definitely a benefit and we can see, actually companies forming from those meetings, it’s definitely something we will do.

The 27th edition of the International Motor Show of Sao Paulo is just beginning. Check it out!

This the Audi R8 GT Spyder, costing R$ 1,2 mi in Brazil
The Salão do Automóvel de São Paulo (International Motor Show of Sao Paulo), is the largest and most important automotive event in Latin America. All car enthusiasts can enjoy the big industry trends and what is most modern in the automotive world.

In a few days for the opening of the 27th edition of the Salão do Automóvel de São Paulo, we know so far that the luxury brands Lamborghini, Bugatti, Pagani, Koenigsegg and Spyker will not be exposing at this time. The reason is the 30% tax applied by the Brazilian Government on imported vehicles.

Not only is high pricing an issue. The high cost to exhibit kept away luxury car brands such as Ferrari and Maserati, for example. This is the first time since 1991 that these brands will not be part of the event. A way to participate was to use Fiat's space (owner of the two brands), to accommodate a supercar of each: a Ferrari 458 Spider and a Maserati GranCabrio Sport. The Fiat novelty will be the new 500C, a convertible version of the Cinquecento.

The German Porsche will bring the 911 Carrera 4S, Boxster (including S version), GTS coupe of the Panamera and Cayenne. Also the German brands Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz will be present. Audi will bring the Audi A1, A3 and R8 GT Spyder (sold in the Brazilian market for R$ 1.2 million). The BMW M5 comes with the newly released Series 6 GranCoupé. Rumour has it that electric cars i3 and i8 will be featured. The Mercedes-Benz SL roadster brings the new Class A and B. The British brand MINI (BMW that belongs to the group) will bring the Cooper and the recently launched Paceman.

The new Viper (now SRT), will be representing the Chrysler brand. Among the Japanese brands, Lexus will display the rare LF-A and Toyota will show the Etios and the FT86 sports, developed in partnership with Subaru. The Korean Hyundai will present the HB20, the i30 and Santa Fé.

The Jaguar will show the F-Type. The Land Rover brand brings the big Range Rover jeep to Sao Paulo. The Bentley brings the Continental GTC V8. The Aston Martin shows the Mirage.

The Citroën will bring the DS4 and DS5 and also an electric car concept called Survolt. The Peugeot promotes the 208, which will be released next year in Brazil. The Renault brings the new Clio to the Mercosur and the prototype Alpine A-110 50.

Among the group of the four major Brazilian automakers (Ford, General Motors, Fiat and Volkswagen), have already announced their attractions. Ford invest in Fusion, Focus and Fiesta (national) and displays the Mustang Boss. VW will present the new generation of the Beetle, and the Canyon. GM already displays the popular Onix, the SUV Trailblazer and Malibu sedan, imported from the United States.

List of unique food you might to try when first arrive in São Paulo

It doesn't matter if you are here for business, tourism or even for just one night. The best flavor from a place has to be appreciated locally. Here is a list of things you might to try in Sao Paulo. Take note:

Pastel is so popular in Sao Paulo that there is a competition every year organized to find out which one is the best
Pastel: is a typical Brasilian dish, consisting of thin pastry envelopes wrapped around different fillings (ground meat, mozzarella, palmito, catupiry cream cheese, chicken, and small shrimp), then deep fried in vegetable oil. The result is a crispy, brownish pastry.

Pão na chapa: it's basically bread and butter cooked on the grill. Very traditional in São Paulo. It's even better if you order it in a bakery. The advice is to try it with coffee and milk ("média" or "pingado" in Portuguese).

Pão de queijo: I wonder why it's not available all over the world yet. It's one of the best Brazilian recipes ever. The ingredients are flour and bread.

Paçoca de amendoim: in local Indian language from tribes of São Paulo, "paçoca" means crumble. It's a traditional Brazilian sweet made with peanut, cassava flour and sugar. This food is very typical and comes from the countryside of the State.

Romeu e Julieta: it's very simple to prepare. It's made by a single slice of "Goiabada" (guava) and also a slice of white cheese. Serve all together and much of your troubles will be away for a while. For the white cheese, if you can, give preference to the "queijo mineiro".

Misto-quente: this is a hot sandwich, prepared with cheese and ham.

Bauru: the name of this sandwich refers to the name of a city in the countryside of the state. This is a famous sandwich in Brazil that was created in a bar in São Paulo in the 30s. Ingredients: French bread with roastbeef, melted cheese, tomato, cucumber, butter, salt.

Vinagrete: prepared with onion, tomato and bell pepper chopped, vinegar, olive oil and salt, commonly used in barbecues. But it is often used in salads. Taste and learn how to prepare. It's easy!

Requeijão: "everything goes well with Requeijão". It's nothing more than cream cheese. However, it's flavor is unique.

Coxinha: It's popular in Sao Paulo and it includes chicken spices, tomato sauce, onion, parsley and scallions (with occasional catupiry cheese), enclosed in wheat flour, batter, and deep fried. It is shaped to roughly resemble a chicken leg.

Quibe: It's a typical dish from the Middle East made with bulk ground beef and wheat tabbouleh. It can be stuffed with cheese and herbs. In São Paulo you can eat quibe in bakeries, coffeeshops, restaurants and bars.

Introducing: Rua 25 de Março. The biggest retailer shopping center in Latin America

The Rua 25 de Março is one of the busiest outdoor shopping centers for retailers and wholesalers in Latin America. The main draw is the low prices of the products.

Rua 25 de Março hosts more than three thousand stores as well hundreds of stalls along the sidewalks. Here you can find anything you might be looking for - hair brushes, slippers, flip-flops, electric massagers. Most of the products have been manufactured in Brazil or China. In addition to the many small stores there are shopping malls and galleries, including the famous Galeria Pagé and the Shopping 25 de Março.

The area is very crowded and known for pickpocketing. When visiting this street, be sure to stay aware of your belongings.

São Paulo became the 10th most expensive city in the world

Skye Bar and Restaurant at the roof of the expensive Hotel Unique
Sao Paulo beats London, Paris and New York and becomes the tenth most expensive city in the world. Nowadays, according to Mercer Consulting, living in São Paulo is more expensive than in most European and American cities. The study is based on the cost that multinational companies need to spend to maintain a foreign official in the city.

In 2010, California was only the 21st most expensive city in the world. But the appreciation of the local currency (Real), the boom of rental prices and food have made this city one of the biggest jumps among the 214 cities evaluated.

Sao Paulo went up 11 positions and surpassed London, Paris and New York

Rio de Janeiro also rose in the rankings, moving from 29th most expensive city in the world in 2010 to 12th this year.

The world's most expensive city to live for a foreigner is Luanda, followed by Tokyo. Moscow is the fourth, followed by Geneva. Zurich, also in Switzerland, is the seventh most expensive in the world. New York is only the 32nd most expensive.
