Throwbacks Week: LA Splash Midnight Rain

Back before indie days fun glitter polishes were not easy to find. LA Splash was a brand that used to be carried at Ulta around 5-6 years ago and they used to sell fun glitter polishes. One of my favorites used to be Midnight Rain. I rediscovered it in my stash recently and that is what I have to show you today.

Midnight Rain
Midnight Rain is a navy jelly base with blue and red glitter.

Collection: N/A

Color: I love the combination of red and blue glitters. A bold red and bold blue are probably my favorite colors. The thing I don't like about this color is the sheerness, which I'll get into in the next section. The colors of though are awesome in here and I don't see many red and blue color combos like this often.

Formula: This is sheer. This is probably best layered, but I've been spoiled the past 4 years with awesome opaque glitter polishes from indies. This isn't how things were pre-indie. Layering glitters were expected. I used 4 coats here on its own and you still see patchy spots. The formula was a bit on the thick side too which is not ideal when you layering on 4 coats!

Price: N/A. I don't think you can find this one anymore.

Overall: I really do like this glitter, but I'll remember it needs to be layered in the future. I'd probably rate this so much higher if it were 2012, but it's 2016. No, this isn't an ideal polish now, but it's a nice throwback.

My Rating: 3 out of 5 Paint Splatters

Third Week Throwbacks: LA Splash Ocean Fairy

**I'm currently at CosmprofNA in Las Vegas! Be sure to follow me on Facebook and Instagram for updates. I'll have a full report on my blog when I return next week!**

It's Third Week Throwbacks again! The third week of every month I do week of nail polish throwbacks. These are all polishes that are 2+ years or older. Today, I have an awesome LA Splash rediscovered throwback I'm head over heels about.

Ocean Fairy
Ocean Fairy is a teal jelly base with teal and yellow-green micro glitters.

Collection: Unknown

Color: This is the type of color that reminds me why I love nail polish so much. This is a stunning mix of a pigmented jelly base with intense sparkly glitter. I love this rich teal base and the glitter compliments this perfectly. Ocean Fairy is bling city in a very glitzy and elegant way.

Formula: Great formula. I did need to add some thinner to it as it has thickened over the years, but it thinned out nicely. I used 2 coats above.

Price: Sadly, I don't think you can find this one anymore. If you have it though, break it out again.

Overall: This was an amazing rediscovery. I love nail polishes like this so much. The color of this is so saturated and the formula was excellent. I am beyond the moon I found this one again.

My Rating: 5 out of 5 *Golden* Paint Splatters

LASplash Heiress

There is nothing more exciting than rediscovering a brand of polish I had not seen in a long time in a store. LASplash nail polish has been off the shelves of Ulta for probably over a year now. I know LASplash even before has never really been a popular brand, but it was definitely a brand creating fun glitters prior to the indie craze. I was happy to spot the brand at Bed Bath & Beyond recently (note: only Bed Bath & Beyond stores with the Harmon cosmetics section will carry these). I picked up a few glitters and this was one of them.

Heiress over Cult Nails Nevermore
Heiress is a micro royal purple glitter in a clear base.

I used two coats over Cult Nails Nevermore in this swatch. You could probably do 3 coats of this on its own, but I definitely recommend a base for a more even coverage. I love this color glitter, and to be honest it  sparkles so much more in person than in the photo! I wish I could capture how much it sparkles! Heiress definitely gives you blingy nails. The formula on this is a bit on the thick side, but it isn't unmanageable.

You can also find this polish for $3.50 on Cherry Culture. I'd recommend holding off until they have a 20% off sale though. I know last year they had one for March Madness, so I'm sure one is approaching!

Happy Wednesday!

LA Splash Ocean Fairy

I first became familiar with LA Splash nail polish at Ulta. It took me awhile to figure out they were actually nail polish though. The bottles are shaped more like lip glosses! Once I figured it what they really were I became a fan. They have a great selection of unique glitters. The sad thing is they no longer are selling this polishes at Ulta, however, they are still sold on Cherry Culture. This one is one of my favorites.

Ocean Fairy

Ocean Fairy is a deep teal jelly with aqua and gold glitter.

This is a stunning polish. I think glitters in a jelly base are some of my favorite glitters. I prefer them over glitter bombs (the straight up glitter in clear base) by far. The formula on this is a bit thick and dries kind of gritty. That is to be expected though with some glitter polishes. It isn't anything a few extra coats of top coat can't fix!

Happy Wednesday!

LA Splash Terra Beach

This polish will be a bit out off topic in the midst of all the holiday polish posts, but I really liked it and wanted to share. This is an LA Splash color. You can get these at Ulta and CherryCulture. I love their selection of glitters!

Terra Beach

Terra Beach is a peachy-nude creme with gold micro-glitter.

I love the color!  I love non-traditional spins on nudes and sheer colors. This color is very unique. I can't think of another shade like it. This is probably more of a summer color, but oh well! I could go for a day at the beach right now. :)

Happy Sunday!

LA Splash French Sparkle

I'm in love LA Splash polishes. They have an awesome assortment of unique glittery polishes. You can find these at Ulta and on Cherry Culture website. These polishes are stacking up in my collection. If you're a fan of glitter you'll love these too!

French Sparkle

French Sparkle is a champagne shimmer packed with gold micro glitter.

I really like this color. It's a nice simple take on a glitter. It's not loud of overly blingy. It's just a simple clean color with micro glitter. I don't tend to do more simple colors, but when I do it's always nice if they have a hidden shimmer or glitter in them. I like this color for that. It's a nice way to go a little quiet without losing that touch of sparkle. I think this color is definitely unique too.

Happy Friday!

Wee Haul!

My parents sadly left yesterday. I feel silly being 24 and so attached to my parents. We live very far apart and I don't get to see them often. I really enjoy their visits. The past 2 weeks up until their visit had been rather hellish for me. I was struggling with a lot of stress, anxiety, and depression for various reasons. Thankfully, about mid-last week I started feeling myself again, and their visit really picked up my spirits. I'm sad to see them go, but I'm sure they'll be visiting again after the holidays. While they were here we did some shopping. I got some new clothes and of course nail polish! I wanted to share with you my goodies!

LA Colors L-R: Amethyst, Copper, Nectar, & Red Stilettos
I found these at Dollar General for $1 each. I also found Poshe Fast Drying Top Coat for $3 each! I grabbed  3 bottles of those!

China Glaze L-R: Midnight Mission, Zombie Zest, Kiwi Cool-Ada, & Emerald Fitzgerald
I got all of these at Sally's. All of them where on sale for $1.99 except for Zombie Zest.

LA Splash L-R: Terra Beach, Treasure Splash, Sparkling Rose, French Sparkle, Pretty Jellyfish, Pink Dream, Sparkling Gold, & Glitz & Berry
I think I now have an LA Splash addiction. These were on sale at Ulta for $1.99 each.

L-R: Nite Lites Pink Flamingo & Borghese Rossi Apple
I got both of these at Ulta. The Nite Lites was $2.99 and I got the Borghese on sale for $1.99

Lane Bryant L-R: Island Volcano & Mahalo Dream

First of all, I had no idea Lane Bryant had nail polishes, but I'm glad they did. I got these at the Lane Bryant outlet. These are jam packed glitter flakies!!!! I just wish the names were switched. It would of made more sense if the reddish one was Island Volcano. These were $6.00 each but it was BOGO 1/2 off. Pretty pricey in my opinion. The other colors were very general, but for these flakies I think it was worth it!

That's what I got this past weekend. Swatches to come soon. I can't wait to show you these flakies. That blue one is amazing!!!

Happy Tuesday!

LA Splash Golden Seahorse

Thank you all so much for the requests! I have set aside all the polishes you requested and you expect to see them in the upcoming days/weeks. You can of course continue to make requests.

I have come to really love these LA Splash polishes. I didn't know about them until I saw them at Ulta a month or so ago. I really love the glitters. They have wide variety that are unique. These are also a great price $3.99. You can also find them on Cherry Culture too. I got this request to do Golden Seahorse by Steph from In Her Makeup Bag.

Golden Seahorse
This is Golden Seahorse layered over black on my index and ring fingers and on its own on my middle finger and pinky. I first thought this was going to be sheer, that's why I had it layered over black. I was wrong this isn't sheer. It goes on opaque with 3 coats, though I do think it looks nice over black too. Golden Seahorse is a sea foam green shimmer with gold glitter mixed in. I can say this is a truly unique color.

I love the mixture of cool toned green with warm gold glitter. I love that combination with any color. I think it helps to balance out a color so it's more universally flattering. These colors together always make me think of ancient Roman baths and their beautiful glass tile mosaics. They always mixed the colors of sea and added rich golden accents. I don't know if any of you are familiar with Hearst Castle. It was built in the 1920's for newspaper mogul William Randolph Hearst in the mountains on the central coast of California. All the rooms/houses had different historical architectural and artistic influences. This color reminds me of the indoor pool that was built there that was influenced by the Roman/Greek architecture.

2009 Trey Ratcliff

I know that isn't the same exactly color of the polish, but it's the idea. Yes, yes, I know I was taking a simple nail polish color way out to left field. I don't know, that's just how my mind works. I like to analyze colors and key into things they remind me of. Plus, this pool is beautiful!  Oh yeah, you can visit this place. They do tours every day. My family and I visit a town near by called Cambria and this is just a few miles up the coast from there. We've done quite a few tours here and the entire castle is an amazing spectacle to see. If you have an interest in art, art history, or architecture you might enjoy visiting the website that I've linked in twice in this post. They have a virtual tour and lot of information on the art work/history in the castle! It's worth a look.

Ok, I'm done. That was my nail polish/art history/tourism post of the day. Sorry to go on a tangent! I started to nerd out there.

Happy Tuesday!

LA Splash Crimson Tide

Reminder: You have 6 more days to enter my giveaway!

I wanted to first thank all of you who commented on yesterdays blog with advice. I appreciate all of your feedback, it is all really helpful to me! :) <3

I'm so glad I discovered LA Splash. To be honest, I didn't know it existed until I saw this brand at Ulta. They have a nice selection of polishes with an emphasis on the sparkle! They seemed to have lots of glittery top coats as well just general glitter polishes. One of the polishes they caught my eye was Crimson Tide.

Crimson Tide
Crimson Tide is a deep vampy red I'd even suggest it's a blood red jelly that is mixed with red and gold glitter. This color is gorgeous. I am so thrilled because often times you come across a deep red glittery color and it's so dark it reads black on your nails with subtle red glitter. It's either that or the standard true red glitters (i.e. China Glaze Ruby Pumps). This definitely shows up as a red on your nails and it the glitter is very visible. It's a great color that I haven't seen in other polishes I have in my stash. I'm definitely excited about this one!

What are some of your favorite vampy shades?

Happy Friday!
