Pacific Rim & Trick 'r Treat Top Legendary's New Comic Offerings

Legendary Comics announces exciting new titles to arrive in the Fall.

Guillermo del Toro promised more adventures from the world of Pacific Rim - and he has delivered. Legendary is taking fans back to the frontlines of a larger-than-life battleground with Pacific Rim: Tales from the Drift, the official new comic series presented by director Guillermo del Toro, featuring a story from Pacific Rim screenwriter Travis Beacham. A continuation of the bestselling graphic novel Pacific Rim: Tales from Year Zero, the new Pacific Rim comic series will feature Jaegers never before seen in combat, squaring off against all-new Kaiju creatures.

Legendary is also proud to launch two original titles. First is the riveting espionage thriller Black Bag, starring Legendary Comics' first female action hero. This gripping series about a suburban wife-turned-covert government assassin comes from writer Chris Roberson, creator of the breakout comic iZombie (recently adapted into a network TV series), and features art from fast-rising talent JB Bastos, known for his standout work on Night Trap.

Toy Fair 2015: NECA Debuts Interstellar, Batman, Pacific Rim & More

Our UK Toy Fair coverage is far from over, but before we get back into that ocean of awesome, we've got some new business to take care of! Nuremberg Toy Fair is ever the enigma with 99% of the show locked down to press (even though they give out press badges), but we've still got some goods to unveil. AND UNVEIL WE SHALL! Let's take a moment for...NECA appreciation. Any follower of Idle Hands on any one of our social media spots..or even my own personal pages, knows I can't help but gush over most of NECA's toy offerings. As this crew adds new articulation to every release, their sculpting and painting game remains as strong as ever and most importantly, they wear their fandom out on their sleeves for all to see, so we can't help but hope for them to get all the licenses we love...because they love what we love! Who continued the Masters of the Universe line when Mattel abandoned it? NECA. Who made a Balrog toy to battle our Toy Biz Lord of the Rings figures? NECA did. I start the slow clap for my New Jersey toy making family...and as you join me, we'll check out some new stuff in a quick but exciting sneak peek!

NYCC 2014: NECA Doesn't Disappoint: Aliens, Apes, Terminators, Robocops, Kaiju & More

NECA. How do we set up NECA? We say "Hold onto your butts",..which of course makes me think of Jurrasic Park and how much NECA would KILL IT on that line!!  Let's cross our fingers that they get some sort of license when the new movie hits. FOR NOW..we suggest the butt holding due to extreme awesome headed your way via an all star lineup from the masters of the 7 inch action figure...and we expected no less. We've got Aliens, Planet of the Apes, Horror, Terminator vs Robocop, Pacific Rim, HALO and  mooore. Rather than spend time listing things you clearly know about (mostly from San Diego Comic Con and...you know..the world..), I thought we'd just jump right into the eye candy. Shall we? Yes, have some!

SDCC 2014: Pre-Show: On the Show Floor with DC, Marvel, Legendary, NECA, Teddy Scares & More

A little under 3 hours and the flood gates will open as the rabid hordes of geekdom storm the castle known as SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2014!!! As the hour creeps closer, our friends from 15 years of dorky news coverage are scrambling to finish their booths and make themselves presentable for the public, all of which doesn't stop them from showing off their spaces! Let's take a look around the show floor and discuss what's being unveiled this year...

We're being told this year's Comic-Con theme is "in mourning" as evidenced by the black tarps and drapes EVERYWHERE. In years past, a small group of ninja-like press could run the floor and snap pics of every little thing without being bothered much at all. Come Thursday, that story would change drastically as security would warn you to stay with your booth, as the other vendors don't want pre-show photography. This year it seems NO ONE wants pre-show photography, as a couple of our friends were already shoo'd away and threatened with ejection if they took one more fuzzy camera phone picture. Serious crack down, huh? Never the less, we have some tidbits to share.

SDCC 2014 Exclusives: NECA's Lineup: Nightmare on Elm Street, Predator, Pacific Rim and Marvel/DC Comics

Now we're getting a rhythm going...which will all fall apart when someone turns the valve and a deluge of San Diego Comic-Con news and exclusives announcements starts flooding the internet! Until that time, we will smile and do our best to list all the toys there are to buy and events there are to attend as completely as we can. When the storm hits, we will be a mess. No apologies.

NECA have been DESTROYING all comers in the world of pop culture action figure creation, making dreams come true daily with a world conquering army of action figures you can't say no to. Their San Diego Comic-Con 2014 Exclusives lineup is equally impressive, building on those lines you've been obsessed with all year and adding must-have items to the list. Let's check out the goodies...

Toy Fair 2014: Marlene Bonnelly's Impending Geek Overload

Toy Fair is coming!
I’m honored to say that this will be my first year attending on behalf of Idle Hands, and I couldn’t be more excited. Next week I’ll be embracing my inner child as I gleefully romp through rows and rows of colorful toys, action figures and collectibles, snapping away with my camera and likely drawing the ire of respectable retailers everywhere.

There will be a lot featured at the show, but there are a few items I’m most looking forward to seeing up close. Apologies in advance to their respective companies for my inevitable face-prints on the glass.

Toy Fair 2014: NECA's Pacific Rim Series 3

Annnd we're back! After sifting through our mound of UK Toy Fair images and heaps of info matching distributors with U.S. companies and playing rousing games of "What the hell is that on the far right and is there a clearer picture of it??!!" ...we now have a respectable amount of news to share! First up, we'll take a look at NECA's Pacific Rim series 3.

These days you have to be quick when it comes to NECA. If you find something up for pre-order on a retailer website, chances are the company has already shown it off in great detail on Necaonline.com. If you find some new figure out in the wilds of a toy industry show..well...you'd best post it right quick. Case in point..in the time it took us to dig out these images, NECA posted complete turn-arounds of the Cherno Alpha paint master on Twitter!!!

So..before they steal back all their news, here's the lot...

Pacific Rim Reviewed

As a kid, Robotech was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. The idea that a gifted young pilot could get behind the controls of a giant, transforming robot to defend the earth from aliens was mind blowing. Later, there would be Transformers and Voltron, so you could say giant robots were always a part of my youth. Pair that with a father who owned a hefty collection of Godzilla movies on VHS and a more awesome time in our history when you could turn on channel 11 on a Saturday afternoon and watch the big lizard stomp a mud hole in a muck monster, and you've got the perfect eyes for a little movie called Pacific Rim.With a film this epic in scope, it would be very easy to get lost in endless explosions (coughmanofsteelcough), needless ever expansion of the plot solely for the sake of future sequels or just plain bad acting across the board. Luckily, this film was in the hands of a true fan from day one. Our friend Creepy from Dread Central put it best when he called me up right after his screening and just repeated, over and over..."IT'S ALL THERE, PAUL! UP ON THE SCREEN!! IT WAS ALL THERE!!"

Pacific Rim: Jaegers: Mech Warriors Featurette

July 12th is so close you can feel it deep down in your bones!! As we creep closer to the release date of Pacific Rim, Guillermo del Toro will be laying down the foundation of the world in which we were forced to build titanic robots to battle mountainous monstrosities looking to scorch the Earth and end our very way of life.

In this, the latest video featurette, del Toro talks more about the Jaegers; robots a tall as city buildings. Where did their design come from? How do you build a mythology around these massive metal warriors without it being derivative of anime that have been addressing this subject for YEARS?! Here's a look inside...

Stands an impressive 18" tall with articulated neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees. Gipsy is very
poseable and includes intricate paint detail to replicate all the battle damage and wear and tear seen on screen. The over 8" long chain-sword weapon attaches at the forearms and can be wielded on the right or left side.

Pacific Rim Drift Space Featurette

When we caught up with Guillermo del Toro at NY Comic Con last October, he explained how the massive Jaeger robots required two pilots to handle the load and even hinted we'd see what would happen when only one pilot was left to take on the task single-handedly. In this new Pacific Rim Fearturette, we explore the relationship between man and robot and more importantly, how two human beings become one pilot.

The Official Main Trailer for Pacific Rim

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

From acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro comes "Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures' Pacific Rim."
  In theaters July 12th.

New Pacific Rim TV Spot

You say you're excited about Iron Man 3? That's fantastic. High hopes for Man of Steel? Superb. We here at Idle Hands are hoping to have perpetual chills during our entire screening of Pacific Rim as leviathan-esque monsters try to wipe out Earth and massive human piloted robots are the only thing that stands in their way. Of course, this movie can go either way. Rely only on spectacle and while you have some incredible eye candy to fill the time, the story will suffer for it. Then again...the story could be ridiculous. Luckily, Guillermo del Toro is behind the wheel...and one thing that man knows how to do is tell an epic tale.

Check out the newest clip from Pacific Rim...

Toy Fair 2013 : Lone Ranger Action Figures

Our friend Rick E @blanka1212 on Twitter asked us if we knew anyone besides LEGO who might be making Lone Ranger toys. We gather he's wanting some legit action figures. Our latest look around the world of plastics revealed a familiar friend that just announced some new licenses..and now.. one more...mayyybe.

Toy Fair 2013 : A NECA Preview

We are a few days away from our first "official" Toy Fair 2013 appointment, but the news is still dropping like mad and we are scrambling like fools to scoop it up! Today, we got a tip on three new action figure properties coming from the masters of movie plastics; NECA. We had some fun speculating on what licenses were available and NECA came up more than a couple of times as the ones to watch. It turns out they've deffinately got some new action up their sleeves...

Pacific Rim: We'd been told NECA had this license, but that doesn't diminish out excitement for a line of toys based on giant Kaiju monsters battling massive Yeager robots one bit. Live Action Evangelion? Yes, please. NECA will kick off their line with three 7 inch "DX" figures of Knifehead Kaiju (a massive monster that surfaces from 5 miles below the sea), Yeager "Gipsy Danger" and Yeager "Crimson Typhoon".

The Pacific Rim Comic-Con Teaser Poster

The Pacific Rim Facebook page had dropped a major tease, sending us drooling for giant robot action..and when we say GIANT..we mean these bots can crumple up a Decepticon like a tin foil ball.

For those of you who will be attending San Diego Comic-Con this year, be sure to join director Guillermo del Toro and stars Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi and Ron Perlman for a special look at the upcoming film on Saturday, July 14th, in Hall H at 2:30pm: http://bit.ly/LMIUSb. Hope to see you there!
