Flora & Fauna Friday - Worms, Fish, & Mouths

Not that you could find any in your backyard, but I doubt you'd catch many fish using a "Tank worm with ‘superarmor’ found in China."  Check them out here.

You'd also get more than you'd bargain for, as did the fish, if you hooked "This fish trapped inside a jellyfish" but he "is probably having a worse day than you."  Find out more about his predicament here.

Finally, you might be on the hook yourself by the time you catch sight of "The 7 Most Terrifying Mouths in Nature" here.

Flora & Fauna Friday - Arapaima, Weird Worms, & Whale Co-op

Three from YouTube this week with a coupe from the National Geographic YouTube channel but this first one is from "billschannel."  "Arapaima are these long sleek looking fish that can grow up to 2 and half meters ( or around 8 feet). The record weight this monster is 200 KG or about 440 LBs, but on average they are about half that."  Still, it's a big old fish.  Enjoy!

Next comes the deep sea discovery that "Weird Worms Live Near Pacific Ocean’s Deepest High-Temp Vent."  "Scientists have discovered the deepest high-temperature hydrothermal vent in the Pacific Ocean, located in the Gulf of California's Pescadero Basin. It sits nearly 12,500 feet (3,800 meters) below the surface. Experts think the high temperatures may cook organic material in the overlying mud into petroleum-like products. Samples of the chimney stacks have the stench of diesel fuel, but creatures like the tubeworms shown in this footage are undeterred. They cling to rocks near carbonate chimneys that emerge from a flat, muddy seafloor. The footage was captured using a remotely operated vehicle."  It's a long way down but that's one of the reasons we invented certain kinds of robots.  Watch the video!

Finally, "Watch Killer Whales and Humpbacks Hunt Together."  "Biologist and killer whale expert Tiu Similä explains the amazing 'carousel feeding' method of Norwegian orcas, which stun and eat fish one by one and share the hunt with humpback whales."  They are so graceful, so sit back and marvel!
