Ingredients

How to make it

  • With wooden spoon, cream butter until fluffy.
  • Stir in sugar and extract, beating by hand to incorporate it into butter.
  • Stir in flour, mixing until well blended.
  • Batter will be very stiff.
  • Taking about 1 tablespoon of dough in your hand, squeeze it into a compact mass, and roll into a ball with the palms of your hands (balls should be about 1½” in diameter).
  • Roll balls in sugar. then place them on ungreased cookie sheet and place a kiss or star in the middle of each, pressing it into the ball very lightly.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 18 to 22 minutes, until cookie is just barely browned on the bottom and around edges.
  • Cool cookies on wire rack before storing in an airtight container.
  • NOTE: Good suggestion from Lasaf - use some of the delicious flavored kisses available these days...raspberry, caramel, mint...so many flavors, you could change the flavor of these little buttery cookies with each batch!

BAD recipe!! Too tough. Cookie more like a biscuit, kiss gets hard after being baked in the oven. Do not use this recipe--keep looking!

I've always made these by putting the "kiss" in the oven on top of the cookies and it keeps it shape. I wish I had seen the recipe before the holidays as I didn't even think of making these this year. Krum, thanks for another great cookie recipe! Its now copied and in my files for safe cooking. Thank you!

Like these cookies. This is a different take, as your recipe calls for placing the kiss in the dough and then baking.I am surprised they hold their shape.
My recipe oh this type cookie calls for placing the kiss in cookie once it bakes and then placing on rack too cool, even then the kiss gets very soft, this year I opened the window and sat trays of cookies on ledge so the kiss would get solid and that worked well other wise it takes forever for them to get solid and I like to pack in tin and store for Christmas and usually they are still so soft they look awful. But not this year the cold outside temp did the trick.

Great idea, lasaf, on the flavored kisses - I added a note in Directions about that...would be really good with so many different flavors, and the buttery cookie base!

OH Krum you have done it again, taken one of the oldies with a new twist. We make something very similar but with a peanut cookie dough, we call them peanut butter blossoms. Thanks once again for broadening my horizons!!!
