March started up like a lion and GameSpy's editorial staff fought like that majestic beast until the bitter end about the best titles of the month. Nothing lamb-like here. After a February that ended in deadlocks during Game of the Month voting, we reached a similar stalemate in March. Whether it was the sequel to one of 2006's best shooters, the return of an epic hero on a new platform, or the hotly anticipated follow-up to the GameCube's top-selling title, it was tough to pin down a clear winner. Nevertheless, democracy reigned as we conducted a vote for our top pick. The winner? Read on.

March 2008 First Runner-up
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)

After what's seemed like an eternity of anguish, Nintendo fans have reason to celebrate once more. This third entry into the excellent Smash Bros. fighting series has literally taken the world by storm. Scoring outrageous sales figures at retail, SSBB is easily the biggest game to hit the Wii to date. Polishing the tried-and-tested formula from the first two games, Brawl takes the action to a new level. With more characters, stages, music and items to find, unlock and use than ever before, Brawl truly is a Nintendo fan's dream.

Sporting one of the finest soundtracks of recent times, and a roster of fighters that will make even the most jaded gamers smile, the gameplay delivers just what we wanted. A robust multiplayer system gives up some of the most entertaining battling in a long time, and the online multiplayer represents a bold step in the right direction for Nintendo. We can't say enough good stuff about SSBB.
