Ahhh, the old fashioned dice tower. Now THIS is Roleplaying!
This week here at GameSpy HQ we got a chance to take an ever closer look at Greyhawk: The Temple of Elemental Evil, the upcoming RPG from Troika Games. Stay tuned for an updated hands-on next week! (Or check out our earlier preview from February.) This marks a truly exciting milestone in RPG history, because Troika is reproducing, almost square-for-square, the exact pen-and-paper D&D module of the same name from back in the day. My inner geek is sobbing for joy, and it's getting the rest of my insides all damp.

You see, I love pen-and-paper roleplaying games. And while I'm excited to see the work that Troika is doing, I don't think that any company has really gone far enough to create the "authentic" dining-room table roleplay experience. What I'm looking for is a computer game that actually gives me the feel of those late night caffeine-coma-inducing gaming sessions, where at 4:30 AM you find yourself arguing with a halfling for 20 minutes over who gets to keep the +5 dagger while the Dungeon Master passes out face-first in a plate of dried nacho cheese dip. THAT's roleplaying! And it's prompted me to design a new game (courtesy of Photoshop at the ToEE beta), a little something I call:

Dungeons & Dweebs: A Roleplaying Simulation

After all, I've already demonstrated how you might turn a computer RPG into a pen-and-paper game in a previous column that you should go read. Certainly I can do the reverse. The market is ready! After all, a real roleplaying simulation would give players options typically not available in other computer games, like so:

Now you're beginning to see the beauty of it! Keep reading for a closer look at my groundbreaking idea... (or just skim all the pictures, whatever.)
