Dark Realm (100 Years Ago)
Save your progress upon first arriving within the Dark Realm, then start out toward the floating platforms. You'll have to battle enemies on each of them. Check the platform on the right to find a chest that you can open for the Inkfinity S item. From there, head left to the next platform and defeat the foe there to free Manpuku. Head to the next ledge and battle enemies there to make a switch available. Stepping on it will produce a path that you can follow back to the main platform. Save your progress there if you like, then fire yourself from the cannon to the ledge that activates. There, you'll battle Master Anura.
Master Anura Boss Battle
To defeat Master Anura, use the same strategy that you did the first time. Hammer him with attacks up close until he disappears into the water, then leaps out of it shortly thereafter. As he flies into the air or as he descends from that leap, slash his exposed belly button. He'll crash into the water, then spit out boulders. Guide Manpuku now. Have him push the boulder that appears on his side of the stream so that it rests in the glowing circular patch of light. Now repeat the process two more times. On the third time, you'll need to slash the shell once, then use Bloom magic on it to make it fall away. Finish up with a slash to the belly so that Anura drops into the water again, then proceed as normal while enemies on your side of the bank mount a weak attack that you should shrug off easily.
When you best Anura, you can have Manpuku get off your back and step on the purified switch (he must do it alone) to reveal a new trail that you can follow. Go ahead and follow that trail to reach a new area. There's another save point here, and another merchant. Nanami is waiting for you on a far ledge out to the right. As before, you'll have to negotiate the ledges one at a time to reach her and rescue her. You can grab items from treasure chests along the way, the Exorcism F and Divine Sake L, then together the two of you will make your way back around to the platform with the save pedestal. Save your progress, then have Nanami swim across the green sea of sludge. Join her and the two of you can step on the switch on the platform to initiate a second boss battle. This time, your foe is Bullhead.
Bullhead Boss Battle
Bullhead should be an easy foe to topple. He hasn't learned any new moves, so all that you have to do is avoid his attacks and watch for him to come flying at you with his tongue exposed. Then use Vine magic to tie his tongue to the overhead hook so that he is hung from it while you hit him with melee attacks and Inferno magic. When Bullhead has taken enough damage, he'll swim to the next island. Guide Nanami over to that new island as Bullhead occasionally leaps out of the water to attack. When he does, use Power Slice moves to knock him back so that he can't harm your friend. Then join her on the next island and repeat the process until you finally defeat your foe.
After Bullhead goes down, have Nanami step on the switch (alone again) to reveal the path to the next platform. Head along that path and save your progress, then work along the floating platforms while defeating enemies and collecting treasure. You'll find the Inkfinity S and the Revenge Slipfrom the treasure chests. When you get around to the boss, which requires you to send Kagu across the spectral path so that you can follow her with Vine magic, you'll find yourself going up against Renjishi.
Renjishi Boss Battle
This is the battle that initially you fought against Sen and Ryo. Now you're battling only Renjishi. Start the fight by running up close to him and hacking away at his base. That will keep you out of range of his arm and projectile attacks. When you deal enough damage, he'll turn gray. Pull away quickly then and watch the order in which purple clouds of mist appear. Once they're all in position, quickly press 'L' to pause the action and draw a line that starts with Kagu, then goes to the first cloud to appear and then traces the pattern in the same order. If you do it right, the clouds will disappear. Now start a new drawing from the point where the first of those points appeared (not from Kagu) and trace the pattern again. You'll deal significant damage. Now you just need to repeat the process. Note that if you mess up, Renjishi will recover some health. It's still an easy fight, though.
The merchant on the next platform is a great guy. He'll upgrade your weapons (if you have the demon parts), teach you new magic skills (if you have the money) and sell you items. You can also save at the save pedestal. This is your last opportunity to save your progress in the game, so make sure that you take advantage of it. Then it's time to head along the next trail to a new platform where multi-colored curtains of light hang in the air. As you approach, another boss battle will be triggered. It's time to battle King Fury again.
King Fury Boss Battle
To defeat King Fury, move in close and hit him with physical attacks while avoiding his own thrusts and projectile weapons. When you have dealt enough damage, he'll fly up toward the center of the screen. That's your cue to have Kagu fly up toward him. She'll use her magic to knock him to the ground, where you can pound on him with physical attacks and Power Slice moves. Then it's time to repeat the process. Make sure that you keep Kagu near the keyboard at the center of the battle arena. Watch her health, too. If she takes a hit, put her on your back and then let her back down again to restore her health. Then resume your battle with King Fury. During the third round, you'll have to deal with both King Fury and his doppelganger, but it's not hard to find which one takes damage and then to keep track of him as you fight. When you deal enough damage to the real version, he'll fly up so that Kagu can use her magic on him again. Then you can finish him off to end the fight.
When you defeat King Fury, you will receive a lot of cash. Head back to the save pedestal to spend it on new moves and items if you like, and save your progress. Then head back toward the area where you saw Kurow. Just ahead of him, you'll initiate another boss encounter.
Kurow Boss Battle
Start fighting Kurow and at first, all you need to do is move in close and hit him with regular melee attacks. You'll take some damage in the process, but you should have more than enough healing items to shrug off most of the hits. Keep hammering Kurow and as you fight, he'll occasionally wear out and stand still, panting and gray. Move in and hit him with a few quick attacks or Power Slice moves, then back away and keep battling.
When Kurow takes enough damage, he'll surround himself with green aura. Now his blows do more damage, but the method for fighting him doesn't really change. When you have him down to around a third of his life meter, he'll also launch into the air occasionally and fire a three-way sword shot at you. Sometimes, he also fires them at ground level. When either spread shot happens, deflect the blades so that they knock Kurow down. Then move in to do more damage.
Keep fighting in that manner and soon you'll do enough damage to end the fight.
Once you defeat Kurow, an extended scene follows. When it concludes, you'll find yourself battling another boss.
Akuro (Spirit) Boss Battle
For the first portion of the fight, you'll just need to harm Akuro's head. You can essentially ignore his two large hands and just move in close to focus on his face. He'll charge up shots for awhile, but you can use Power Slice moves to hit his tongue, or your sword. Inferno also works when he is building up ice power. Once he builds up power of a certain element, he'll unleash several charged blasts of that element. Just back away and move to the sides to avoid them, then move in again and resume your assault.
When you take down around 20% of Akuro's life meter, he'll congratulate you on your impressive showing. Then he'll resume his attack with a new skill in his set: dark aura that does severe damage to you when it connects and also restores Akuro's health. Obviously, you want to prevent that from happening. To do so, you need to deal a bunch of damage as fast as you can when he starts charging up that particular attack. Inferno can help with that a lot, as can your powerful bolt magic (hopefully you purchased that upgrade, though if not then you can rely on Inferno just fine).
While you fight, move constantly to avoid the hands, even if the mouth is only charging. Keep unleashing Inferno attacks and when you deal enough damage in short order, Isshaku will congratulate you on the good that you've done. There's still a lot of fight left in Akuro, though.
Keep fighting the way you have been, with a steady supply of Inferno spells. If the hands break away part of the ledge, spare a moment to repair the ledges with your magic (just draw the solid platform back in) but otherwise focus on the attack. You should have plenty of items to refill your supply of ink as necessary. As long as you keep up the assault, you'll be able to hammer away at Akuro's life meter until finally it is emptied.
When you empty Akuro's life meter, a scene follows. Then you'll go right into another battle.
Akuro Boss Battle
You have to battle against Kuni now as he rides around on a darker version of you. During this fight, your foe has access to the Celestial Brush and will use it periodically throughout the fight for Power Slice purposes. Even when he's not doing that, though, he can hit you with fire and ice elemental attacks.
Counter with Inferno magic of your own, and slow him down with your rain magic if you have it. Melee attacks are going to be your main way of doing damage, but keep up both your life and magic meters so that nothing unexpected finishes the fight prematurely.
When you damage him enough or the fight has just gone on for long enough, your foe will use the Celestial Brush to draw a dark sun in the overhead sky. Under the cloak of darkness, you can't really do much because whenever you try to draw anything, your foe disrupts it. Focus on surviving attacks and slashing out at your assailant. When you manage to land a hit, he'll collapse in a gray heap for a couple of seconds. That's your chance to quickly press 'L' or 'R' and bring up the celestial brush canvas. Draw a circle on the screen to bring back sunlight, then head over to your foe's stunned form and hit him a few times with your strongest attacks.
You'll likely have to go through that process a few times. Another thing to keep in mind as you fight is that if you see your foe's brush drawing shapes on the screen, you can quickly draw a line through them to disrupt them, just as he does with many of your attacks. That's a good way to reduce the damage he inflicts so that all you have to do is focus on melee attacks and keep up your health and ink supply.
When you finally drain your foe's life meter this time, the battle is finished.
When you win, you'll see another scene. During that scene, you need to be ready to perform a vertical slash along the center of the screen. After that, just keep watching to see the game's ending. Don't forget that you can play through again and keep some of what you've gained on your first trip through the game. Have fun!
