Ice Room (100 Years Ago)

Travel along Shinshu Field in the past and exit along the east side. Ascend the cliffs and you'll witness a scene. When the scene concludes, continue along the cliff (now without Kurow) and you'll find a stone pedestal with a weak point on it. Drop a Cherry Bomb on it to blast a hole, then drop down through the opening into a hidden chamber. There's a chest waiting inside, encased in ice. Use your Inferno ability, purchased for 30,000Y in the present, and you'll melt the ice. Open the chest to obtain the HollowStatue.

Now return to the surface and continue up the slope. You'll see the archway that leads down to the Moon Cave, but keep moving past it to come to a wall at the end of the ledge. There's a weak point along the wall. Blast it with a Cherry Bomb, then enter the opening. Inside, use Vine magic to cross to the far island and then use Galestorm to blow away a pile of leaves. Open the chest that is revealed to find another HollowStatue.

Return to the surface again and backtrack to the archway that leads down toward the beach. Start down that steep trail as it descends toward the water. Double back along the right side of the base of that steep slope to find a rock wall that you can bomb. You'll reveal an opening. Inside that opening, there waits a treasure chest that you can open to obtain the Clay Statue. Grab it, then exit to the beach and continue along the bar of sand for another scene with Manpuku. Hand over the meat that you obtained in Kamiki Village and a scene follows. When it concludes, you have a new partner.

Continue forward with Manpuku to reach the area ahead of the entrance to the Moon Cave. Save your progress there, then continue forward to trigger a new scene. When that scene concludes, you will find yourself in the area known as the Ice Room.

Watch the scene that follows your arrival, then start along the arching trail. There's a merchant that will sell you items if you need them and have money. Past him, ice blocks an opening. Use Inferno magic to melt it, then pass through the opening and to the area beyond it. In the next winding hallway, avoid the ice blocks on the floor. Touching them will harm you and temporarily freeze you in place. Watch for one larger chunk of ice, which encases a treasure chest. Melt the ice with fire from the Manpuku's flaming hair and open the chest for Ice Room Key 1. Then continue along the path. You'll reach a new opening.

On the other side of that opening, you'll arrive in a scene that is viewed from the side. Start to the right and you'll come to a cannon on one side of the gap. Manpuku offers to get into the cannon and tells you to light the fuse. Investigate the cannon again with Manpuku on your back and answer that "Yes," you want to put him in the cannon. Then use your magic and his hair to light the fuse. Follow him to the other side of the gap with Vine magic and continue to the right, melting ice as you go. You'll pass through another opening and then arrive at a room with a save pedestal, which you might as well put to use.

Ahead of the save pedestal, there's a door with four imprints. You clearly can't open it yet, so head to the right and through an opening.

In the next room, head to the left side of the corridor and start forward. You'll start on a slide that carries you to the far side of the corridor. Now walk a step right so that you're at the center of that corridor, turn and face the screen, then start down toward it. You'll slide back the way you've just come and finally stop right near a treasure chest. Press the 'A' button to open it and you'll find the Penguin Fig. inside. Turn around and slide to the far side of the chamber again, but this time exit through the opening.

In the next room, there's a scene. Manpuku explains that he can cross the icy spikes on the floor. Have him do so, then pull yourself over with Vine magic as instructed. Make sure that you put Manpuku on your back again. Now walk down and face the icy stream. Icebergs float along this. Wait for one to come near, then jump across to it and from there immediately jump down again to a high ledge with a treasure chest. Open it for the Spirit Ink S. Then have Manpuku walk left across the ice. Join him and open the treasure chest for the Ice Room Key 4 (mind the enemy, which you can subdue with fire attacks). Now hop onto an iceberg and let it carry you to the right and then up along the flowing stream. You can dismount along the top bank to find a Seashell in a treasure chest, or let the stream carry you left to another ledge. Dismount there and open the treasure chest for a History Scroll.

Now you need to head back to the right. Have Manpuku lead the way on the icy patch and defend him from the enemy with fire magic. When he crosses to the far right, follow him with Vine magic. To the right, there's an icy column that rises out of the water and blocks the flow of water to the right. Melt it with fire magic, then hop onto the iceberg and ride it a short distance to the right. Jump down to solid land at the first opportunity and head down a few steps to see a new field of ice spikes. There are two switches here. Have Manpuku wander over to one, then join him and stand on that switch. Now direct Manpuku to the other switch. When both are pressed at once, a spike wall below you will be lowered. Now you can have Manpuku walk along the ice field toward the lower left. Drop a Cherry Bomb on the weak spot on the floor to reveal a treasure chest. Join Manpuku once he reaches the chest and you can receive the Drag. Fossil as a reward for your ingenuity. Then have Manpuku lead the way over to solid ground to the lower right. Follow him there and together the two of you can pass into the next chamber.

Start through that next chamber and you'll trigger a scene. When that scene concludes, start through the area. This is a simple space to navigate. You'll see high columns of ice, which you can slice with Power Slice moves. That will make the columns drop across gaps so that you can proceed. As you go, continue slicing columns and sometimes enemies (just hit them when they start moving and you see eyes appear). When you reach the far ledge, head to the right and there's a treasure chest that you can open for a Pearl. That should be the last unique item that you need to complete your collection of Antiques. To the right of the chest, there's a bud. Use Bloom magic on it to produce a ledge you can use to ascend the ice wall. At the top of the ice wall is an enemy encounter with a Water Nymph.

Defeat the enemy, then head through the opening to arrive at another side of the familiar, cross-shaped area with slick trails. Head to the left side of the passage and slide along it to the far side. Then position yourself at the middle of the passage and slide toward the screen. Watch carefully for an icy obstruction and use fire magic to melt it. You'll approach a treasure chest, which you can open for Ice Room Key 2. Now slide back to the end of the path and pass through the opening.

You'll appear now in a room with a large field of spikes ahead of you. As usual, have Manpuku cross the spikes to the far side. Use Vine magic to join him. There's a greenish pool of water there. Use your magic to move the water toward the next gap. It'll freeze in place to form a bridge. Now you can cross your makeshift bridge to do battle with the enemy waiting in a purple haze on that ledge. Defeat the Ice Beast by using fire magic to melt away its icy shields, then hitting it with powerful melee attacks. Once you clear away that enemy, set a Cherry Bomb on the weak rock nearby and blast it to reveal another hot spring. Use water from that spring to produce an icy ledge for you to cross over to the ledge on the far side of the room. There, open the treasure chest for the Ice Room Key 3.

Now it's time to backtrack a short distance. Head out of this room the way you came in, then take a few steps left and head down that passage. You'll arrive on a ledge overlooking a slick trail leading left and right. Drop down to the trail, then slide left. Exit through the opening there and you'll find yourself back in the room with the save pedestal and the huge locked door. Save your progress if you like, then open the door using the four keys that you found.

Through that doorway, you'll trigger another scene. When it finishes, head to the right along the snowy path. Melt the huge chunk of ice at the end, then pass through the door to the right. You'll arrive on a ledge with two cannons.

One cannon faces left, the other right. Hop into the right cannon and use fire from Manpuku's hair to light the fuse. Ride the blast over to the platform with the enemy. Defeat that enemy, then enter the top of the two cannons that appears. It'll launch you to the ledge with the two treasure chests. One holds the Holy Bone S and the other contains the Seashell. Once you have those items, three cannons appear. Ride the upper left one to a new ledge, where you can defeat an enemy and open a treasure chest for the Inkfinity S item. Now backtrack by using the bottom cannons to return to the ledge with the first two cannons.

Hop into the cannon facing left. You'll fly over to the ledge, where you can obtain a Stray Bead from the treasure chest. Now two cannons appear to your left. Get in the upper of those two and it will blast you to a ledge with a cursed patch. Defeat a few enemies from that patch and three cannons will appear. Enter the upper right one and let it launch you to a ledge to the right, where you can defeat an enemy and open a chest to find another Pearl for your collection. Now hop into the upper of the two cannons that appear and ride it to the next ledge. There, defeat an enemy and then hop into the right cannon. Ride it to another small ledge where you can defeat a few weak enemies to make a chest appear. Open it for the Tiger Fig. item, then ride the top cannon there to the far ledge.

Now you can see a doorway ahead of you, blocked by evil aura. Don't approach that door yet. Instead, hop back into the nearby cannon and ride it down toward the center of the room. You'll land on a ledge with a spinning cannon. You can enter this cannon and ride it around to other ledges that you may not have visited in the room. It's important to do that because there are items on some of those other ledges, even if they're not obvious. You want to explore each of the ledges in this room, in particular the ones along the back left and right sides to obtain the Spirit Ink and Masterpiece Part 5 on the left side and the Lucky Coin and Holy Bone S on the right side. The middle island just shy of the back side of the room holds a Drag. Fossil, as well.

When you have gathered all of that precious loot, head to the back side of the room and engage the enemy that is guarding the opening. When you defeat him, which you'll do quite handily if you regularly apply fire magic, you'll appear in a room where you can hop onto icebergs and float along a stream. The map shows that the area is shaped in a rough figure-8 formation. You can ride a given iceberg only a short time before you have to jump off of it and onto a sheltered ledge along the stream. At the fourth ledge, you'll notice a huge block of ice to the left. Do not use fire magic on that ice. Instead, ride the iceberg around to the next shelter (it isn't far) and hop onto land to find a treasure chest. Open that chest to obtain Masterpiece Part 5, which wouldn't have been possible if you melted the ice and changed the flow of the icebergs. Now continue riding the ice around to the lowest edge of the chamber. Disembark there and then exit through the opening.

You will arrive in a room shaped roughly like a 'T' with a long path leading down to an iced over cannon. You can't melt the ice around the cannon, so just ignore that side of the room and head past the frozen dragon, through the next opening. In the room you find next, there's a save pedestal. Save your progress, then head right to the next chamber.

Here, you have a bit of a puzzle. As you head right, you'll find yourself at the edge of a wide pit. There is a huge block hanging ahead of you. Leap to it and then you must use your magnetic magic to pull other such ledges together and to repel them. In that manner, you can slowly make your way across the gap. Near the far right side, you'll need to jump from one of the blocks to the next while avoiding falling icicles. Watch the ice to get a feel for the pattern. Three drop in close succession and then there's slightly more time between them before another three arrive. Leap when it's safe to do so and you'll be carried to the right. Then you can head right on solid ground once more. Open the treasure chest that you find to obtain the Divine Sake L, then head through the next opening.

Now you will find a single treasure chest mostly surrounded by ice. Approach the chest and open it to obtain the Pearl. Now return left the way you came. Stop at the save pedestal to save if you like (we suggest that you do so, as a boss battle is imminent), then continue left from there and a scene follows. You'll have to fight a boss now.

Water Dragon Boss Battle

When you visited this room previously, you saw a cannon encased in ice. Of course, so was the dragon. Now, neither of those two things is true. That's something to keep in mind, but you can't do much about it now. Instead, start by moving left and right and slashing at the dragon with your weapons. The dragon counters with dragon breath and can also make icicles fall from the ceiling, but you can simply avoid those attacks and attack in between rounds. Make sure that you also avoid the dragon itself, which occasionally will slam its head down on the ledge where you're battling. You should be able to see such attacks coming.

Once you damage the dragon enough, it will turn gray for a moment. Now you can get close and use a Power Slice move on an overhead icicle to chop it down. The icicle will damage the dragon and pin it in place. Swiftly run along the rock ledge to the cannon. Put Manpuku in the cannon and fire him at the dragon to inflict still more damage.

For the remainder of the fight, you will need to repeat the process while avoiding more desperate attacks from the dragon. Its main trick is that once you have hit it two or three times with Manpuku's cannon shots, the dragon will start throwing up an ice barrier as Manpuku is flying through the air. You can use Inferno to quickly melt the ice so that Manpuku's shots can continue to find their mark. Then the dragon will be defeated.

Once you defeat the Water Dragon, a scene follows and you'll need to draw flames from Manpuku's head to melt some ice for yet another scene. When that concludes, head down along the path to the submarine, where yet another scene unfolds. Then it's time to prepare yourself for the final dungeon. Stock up on any items, skills and weapon upgrades that suit you, then head to the final destination.
