Cave of Nagi

You've reached Kuni's secret hideout, which you can't visit just any time you like. Make sure that you spend your time here wisely.

From the entrance, head forward and left to find a save point. Past that, there's a bridge with a gap in it that you can fix using Restoration magic. Just draw around the space where boards are missing. Then cross the bridge to the island on the far side, where animated boulders will attack. You can get close enough that they spot you, then remain in place and attack as they role toward you. If you try to rush the boulders, you stand a good chance of taking damage.

Past the boulders, you'll be able to continue along ledges in the first portion of the cave until you find a switch. Step on it to make a bridge appear. Cross the bridge, then start carefully to the right. Eliminate another rolling boulder, then continue right past it and you'll find a treasure chest. Open the chest to obtain Masterpiece Part 1. Head back left and continue in that direction to come to a cracked bit of ground. There, press 'X' to let Kuni get off your back. Head across the ledge by yourself and step on a switch to make another bridge appear. Cross back over the bridge to reach Kuni and place him on your back again. Then the two of you can continue left across the bridge without worrying that it will fall out from beneath you (the way the cracked grassy ledge would).

To the far left, you'll find an opening that leads into the cave's second area. In that new chamber, start toward the lower left and you'll see another of the weak grassy ledges leading left. Ignore it for the moment and head down a short distance to find a rolling boulder. Attack and eliminate it, then let Kuni get off your back again. Cross left over the grassy ledge to trip a switch that makes a bridge appear. Cross over to Kuni, let him ride you again and now return to the ledge with the switch by way of the bridge that you caused to appear. Continue toward the back side of the ledge from there and you will find some purple mist along the ground.

As you approach the purple mist, you'll trigger an enemy battle. There are three foes in this case, including one who rides on a floating platform. You can defeat them all with a mad rush and a flurry of attacks, as usual. When the enemies go down, you can continue safely along the ledge to find a blue switch. Step on it to reveal a ring you can pass through to reach the cave's third area.

In that third portion of the cave, head toward the left along the large, grassy ledge. Here, there's a maroon patch on the ground. It periodically produces the rolling boulder enemies that you've been battling so far. Kill a few of those until you're only dealing with one at a time as new ones emerge, then continue left along the ledge and Kuni will ask you to let him off so that he can keep fighting the boulders. Do so, then head down along the cracked grassy ledge leading toward the bottom of the screen. On the lower bank, you can head right but you need to wait for spikes to recede. Carefully head right past the spikes to find the Bead Key in a treasure chest.

With the key in your possession, return to Kuni and let him on your back again. Now you can pass through a locked, circular door. Continue along the grassy ledge beyond. Here, you'll find other grassy ledges with red light cracks positioned along them. You can't proceed along those ledges, even without Kuni on your back, so continue toward the left and keep away from the extended ledges and their precious treasure chests... for now. You'll soon reach a wide field of stars and Kuni expresses optimism that you can cross. He's right. Walk along the suspended path to reach a large statue on an island on the far side of that expanse.

Draw the statue by tracing the constellation pattern with your brush. You'll trigger a scene and learn the Guidance ability. Then you can backtrack through the cave, finding chests along the way. To open one, press the 'L' or 'R' button, then draw a red line to guide Kuni so that he crosses safely to the desired chest. Then guide him back to you in the same fashion and help have him jump onto your back to receive the item. You need to stand close enough to a given ledge and set Kuni down while the whole ledge is on-screen or you can't draw the path that you wish for him to follow.

Start exploring the usefulness of your new ability by opening a chest just to your right to obtain the Spirit Ink S. Another chest along the return path contains the Masterpiece Part 1 item, while the area on the opposite side of the first red-tinted path that you saw features a switch. Have Kuni step on that and you will make a bridge appear so that you can cross over and activate another switch.

That second switch makes a ring of light appear. With Kuni on your back, jump through it to appear in a new portion of the cave. To the right, you'll see a new crossing with the trembling grassy arch leading right. You need to send Kuni along it, but finish the line and release him only as the spikes have extended to their highest point. The instant they do, you can send Kuni toward the right and he'll be able to cross over the spike trap as the spikes recede. He can step on the switch that lies just beyond them to create a bridge along the upper left side of the area, which you can cross to reach a second switch. Stepping on that second switch creates a bridge to the third switch, which you can have Kuni cross to produce yet another bridge. Now you can safely cross to the right side of that puzzle area and reunite with Kuni.

Continue right from there and you'll find an opening to the right. When you pass through it, you'll appear in a vertical chamber. Head up along the chamber and make sure that you head to the right and open a treasure chest there to obtain the Dragon Fig. Then continue along the main corridor to arrive at the edge of a cliff looking out at a statue.

When you reach that point, Kuni will make a comment and you'll need to draw a flower for the statue's sword. It's a simple pattern to trace. Then you can trace a constellation. The Young Tachigami will greet you and give you the Power Slice ability. Now you can draw a line to split items in two.

Head down along the trail that descends along the room's left side. Pass behind the statue and then walk around in front of it to investigate some purple aura. You'll trigger a battle with monsters. First three standard demons will attack you (this is a good chance to put your Power Slice to use, since you can harm three at once if they're properly positioned to allow for such a thing with a single horizontal slash). When you dispatch of those foes, two of the guys that ride the giant tops will appear. Demolish them, then a scene follows and you can exit the cave.

As you arrive back in the village, head down the hill. There's a scene and you can cut apart some stone lanterns. Continue downhill to the base area of the village. Find Susano at the village entrance and he mentions wanting sake. Now go to his house, the large building just to the right of the save point. You can use the Power Slice move on the wall scroll to reveal a hidden painting. You can also head downstairs to find a glowing item hanging from the ceiling. Use a Power Slice on it to make that object drop to the ground. Collect it to obtain the Sake, then take that to Susano. Give him the drink and he will pass out from his short-lived revelry. Use the Power Slice on the boulder that he was guarding and you won't quite break it, but Kuni will pitch in. When he produces a slash mark, trace over it with your stylus and you'll finally break the boulder. Now you can start thinking about your next destination.
