Dragon Quest IX Side Quests

Where? When? Reward
Djust Desert Available as soon as you arrive at the Djust Desert for the first time. Platinum Ore

In-Game Description

"According to the back of a sign you saw just outside Gleeba, a Gleeban beauty who runs a group called the Desert Foxes is looking for ten Duneberries that Parched Peckerels tend to drop."

As far as side quests in Dragon Quest IX are concerned, this one is about as obscure as they come... at least in terms of how you find the side quest, and how you go about executing it. For starters, you're going to need to have access to the Djust Desert (this is the world map location that surrounds the town of Gleeba). You'll have access to the Djust Desert immediately upon getting your own ship back in Bloomingdale. When you arrive at the Djust Desert, head to the middle of the terrain, where Gleeba is located. South from Gleeba, you will find a lone signpost sitting in the sand. It's this signpost that's at the heart of finding this side quest, because by reading the back of the signpost, you'll find some hidden text. This text was written by a dancer back in Gleeba, a woman who requests that you find ten Duneberries for her.

After accepting the side quest offer, what you're going to want to do is fight bird-like enemies known as Parched Peckerels. These particular foes are strewn all over the Djust Desert (though if you stay in the direct vicinity of Gleeba, you're bound to run into plentiful amounts of this foe). The idea is to fight ten of these guys in ten different battles. Doing so will get you a single Duneberry per fight. Duneberries are considered special items, and thus, you will receive one after each battle with a Parched Peckerel without fail. After collecting ten of them, head to the town of Gleeba, and go to Gleeba's renown belly dancing bar. In the side room, where the dancers prepare themselves, you'll find a woman who will request your ten Duneberries. Hand them over, and she'll give you some precious Platinum Ore in return. The side quest is considered wrapped thereafter.
