Dragon Quest IX Side Quests

Where? When? Reward
Gleeba Available as soon as you arrive at Gleeba for the first time. Magical Skirt

In-Game Description

"A young man who hangs around in the dance hall in Gleeba wants to bring him three Hocus Chimera Feathers so he can impress Belinda, a girl who struts her stuff there."

If you like straight-forward side quests, than Feathers For A Fan is for you. For starters, head to the desert town known as Gleeba. Gleeba is famous for a few things (including a rather narcissistic queen), but one of its better known locales is a belly dancing bar tucked in the northwestern corner of the town. Within, you can find a patron near the front of the establishment, right at the stage where the belly dancers perform. Speak to this man, and he'll inform you that he's in love with one of the dancers, a woman named Belinda. Apparently, Hocus Chimera Feathers are en vogue right now, and he hopes to adorn himself with three such feathers to impress this lass.

Of course, those three Hocus Chimera Feathers won't just materialize out of nowhere. You're going to have to do the legwork to find them. You can actually fight Hocus Chimeras outside of Gleeba in the Djust Desert, but it might actually be easier for you to backtrack a ways and seek them out in the Heights of Loneliness (which is located northeast of Bloomingdale, and southeast of Dourbridge -- this was the location that led you to the ultra-creepy Zere Rocks). They're in far greater abundance there, and you should be able to slaughter these foes en masse and collect their feathers randomly after battle. When you have three, all you need to do is return to Gleeba and hand the feathers off to the man in the belly dancing bar. He'll give you a Magical Skirt in return.
