Dragon Quest IX Side Quests

Where? When? Reward
Gleeba Available as soon as you arrive at Gleeba for the first time. 1,000 Gold

In-Game Description

"Ruki, a trainee guard from Gleeba, told you about a strange request he'd received. Apparently, the Gold Golems who roam the Djust Desert want someone to go after the fake Gold-Plated Golem in their midst."

This is a rather strange side quest, albeit one that's easy to complete in premise. As soon as you arrive at Gleeba, which is the castle town surrounded on all sides by desert, you'll be able to undertake this side quest in earnest. In fact, if you're extra savvy, you should even be able to combine some necessary gold and experience grinding in with the completion of this side quest. Here's the rub: you'll find a guard named Ruki in the barracks at the southwestern portion of the town of Gleeba. Speak with him, and you'll learn that there's a bit of a problem with some of the Gold Golems that roam around the Djust Desert that surrounds Gleeba.

Now, believe it or not, we're going to be helping these monsters out. Gold Golems, as you likely know, are notorious enemies that find their origins way back in the original Dragon Quest (or Dragon Warrior, for all of my fellow Americans). These enemies give you an exorbitant amount of gold compared to its evil brethren, and should be sought-out when farming for gold. But amongst the Gold Golems is a faux Golem that the Gold Golems want to do away with. So the idea is simple -- fight Gold Golems in the Djust Desert. Keep on fighting them over and over again. This may take you one try or one-hundred; it's entirely random. You'll know that you found the faux Gold Golem when a cutscene ensues following your defeat of a Gold Golem. With its fake plating knocked off, it will run away. A real Gold Golem will then appear to give you 1,000 Gold. After all, you scared off his nemesis. Nice!
