Dragon Quest IX Side Quests

In-Game Description

"A priest at Alltrades Abbey has told you that a gladiator needs not only strength, but also composure. You must demonstrate this by defeating three Slimes using Dragon Slash while you're in a state of super-high tension."

This particular side quest is yet another one in a long line of side quests that become available at Alltrades Abbey after you've defeated Master Nu'Un at the Tower of Trades, and returned Abbot Jack to his proper position at the abbey. Once you've done that, you can find a priest in the basement of Alltrades Abbey. He'll be positioned directly in front of the entrance to the inn there. Upon speaking with him, you'll learn of a yet-unlocked character class called the Gladiator class. Apparently, this priest can unlock that particular job for you, but not before you do something for him, of course. Keep in mind that this may only become available to you if you have a Warrior in your active party.

This priest wants you to do something that seems easy, but is actually fairly annoying. He wants you to kill three separate Slimes in battle, using the Dragon Slash attack while at maximum tension. Your best bet is to travel to Angel Falls, where there are Slimes aplenty to be found. When you arrive, begin to fight Slimes. Because you're likely much stronger than they are, you need to ensure that they can't escape. Cast Sleep on the Slimes, and then raise the tension of a character in your party that knows Dragon Slash (likely a Warrior). When that character's tension is raised all the way, execute Dragon Slash on a Slime. Do this three times (whether in the same battle, or a separate one), and you'll reach the side quest's prerequisites. Return to the priest in the basement of Alltrades Abbey, let him know the good news, and the Gladiator class will be unlocked for you to use.
