Dragon Quest IX Side Quests

Where? When? Reward
Stornway Castle Available as soon as you arrive at Stornway Castle for the first time. Seed of Strength

In-Game Description

"You met with a bit of a ruffian called Hamish down the well in Stornway Castle, and he asked you to bring him a Slimedrop. He seems to think he can use it to squeeze through a narrow gap."

This is a rather strange and random side quest, but yet, a great many of them in Dragon Quest IX are. When you first arrive at Stornway Castle proper, you'll be able to explore the premises at will. If you head to the northeastern segment of the ground floor, you'll find the castle's kitchen. Nearby, you should find a door heading outside to your right. This little outdoor area is the key. There should be a well with a woman standing next to it. Descend into the well, and there, you will find a lone, burly man staring into a hole in the wall.

Apparently, this hole in the wall was created by the very earthquake that earlier deposited your character at Angel Falls. This particular man wants to find a way through the crack so that he can see what's on the other side. And for this, he requests a Slimedrop, an item that will lubricate his body and allow him to slip through the crevice. Slimedrops can't be purchased (as least, not early-on in the game), but you should already have some in your inventory. These items are naturally dropped during battle by Slimes and Bubble Slimes. If for some reason you don't have one, go find either kind of enemy on the world map and fight them until they drop one. Then, return one to the man in the well, and he'll give you a Seed of Strength for your hard work. Keep in mind that She-Slimes don't drop Slimedrops, so don't waste your time with them!
