Dragon Quest IX Side Quests

Where? When? Reward
Stornway Castle Village Available upon first arriving at Stornway Castle Village. Pirouette (party trick)

In-Game Description

"A girl named Ricki in the church in Stornway wants you to egg her on with an air punch."

This is a rather random side quest, but also one that's extremely easy to complete. As soon as you arrive at Stornway Castle, you'll be able to undertake this side quest, so there's no waiting necessary. Simply head to the church within the castle walls, which is at the northeastern portion of the castle map. Once there, speak to the woman in the middle of the building. She's standing in the aisle at the center of the church, and you literally cannot miss her.

When you speak with her, you'll learn that her name is Ricki. She's at church to pray, naturally, but as she explains, she just can't seem to get hyped-up enough to go through with her usual ritual. She requests that you deliver her the want to pray with a swift Air Punch. A strange request, to be certain, but this is what she wants, and you intend on delivering. Air Punch is a party trick, a move that can be set to the B button and conducted whenever you're outside of battle (by holding B and using the accompanying directional pad command). Air Punch is the first party trick you know in the game, and is thus automatically mapped to the B button (with up on the d-pad) from the outset of the game. So, accept the quest from Ricki, Air Punch in her vicinity, and then speak with her again to collect your prize. Your prize is yet another party trick, this one called Pirouette. Feel free to map it to the B button, should you so desire.
