HIPPITY HOPPITY TREAT CONTAINERS | with Karen

I know I tell you this every year about this time, but those little chocolate eggs are my absolute weakness.  You know the ones I mean.  I know you do.  When those hit the stores, I am done for!  The great news is that I always have an excuse to buy them because Doodlebug releases the most adorable Easter collections that are begging to be turned into treat containers.   Cue this year's Hippity Hoppity collection...

I mean, it doesn't get any cuter than this!  Amazing colours and patterns and the most adorable Shape Sprinkles that were the perfect feature for these little containers!

Those little chickies in the Sweet Tweets pack - "sweet" is absolutely right!

I trimmed up these containers with of the Spring Meadows paper and a sentiment from the Chit Chat pack.  A simple, but oh, so cute container for those infamous eggs!

And just in case you love those eggs as much as I do and needed an excuse to buy some (because I know you have already bought the Doodlebug collection, right?), I thought I would put a little tutorial together for you so you can make them too!

Hippity Hoppity Treat Container Tutorial:

1.Cut a piece of paper (I love the textured cardstock for the bases) to 6x6".  Score at the 2" and 4" marks.  Turn your paper 90 degrees and score again at the 2" and 4" marks.

2. For the top - cut a piece of paper 9 x 2 3/4" Along the long edge, score at the 2 1/8", 4 1/4" 6 3/8" and 8 1/2". Turn your paper 90 degrees and score at the 1" and 2 1/4" marks.

3. On the base piece, cut up from the bottom along the score lines.  Trim off a triangular shape to the bottom corners on both the left and right sides.   Turn your paper 180 degrees and repeat on the opposite edge.

4.  Flip over your paper and run liquid glue on each of the triangular sections.  I like to use the liquid glue as I find that it is stronger once dry (I want to make sure they can hold those eggs securely).  Fold these ends up and tuck them inside the remaining square sections to form the sides of your container.

5. Using the top section, add liquid glue on the 1/2" flap and glue together to form a tube.  On opposite sides (it doesn't matter which ones as long as the are opposite), pinch the paper slightly inwards.  Make sure the 1/2" score section is at the top.

6.  Using your fingers, continue gently pressing inwards along the pinch until this shape emerges.

7.  Add some liquid glue along the 1/2" top tab and pin closed right on the bottom of the tab until dry.  Doodlebug's mini clothespins are actually perfect for the job!

8.  And then embellish away!

These make a perfect addition to an Easter basket, make great thank-you gift for teachers and other special people or look adorable as place setting treats on your Easter dinner table!  I hope you will consider giving them a try!  Thanks for stopping by!

MADE WITH LOVE NUTCRACKER PERPETUAL CALENDAR | with Jennifer

I know! I know! Nutcrackers are traditionally reserved for Christmas, but when I saw all the fun cookies and baking supplies in the Made With Love collection I knew I wanted to make a Nutcracker calendar that could serve up treats all year long.

I tried to make him more whimsical than "Christmasy" with cotton candy hair and fun cakes for his hat. The pastel palette from the collection helped too.

I borrowed a few treats from previous collections as well, like the cute macaroon and gingerbread man. I even tried to tone down his cheesy smile, for those of you who are afraid of Nutcrackers. lol

Since the Nutcracker and cubes I had on hand were made of wood, I made a wood base in a kitchen counter shape to go along with my project. (You could buy a simple wood perpetual calendar online or at your local craft store, if you prefer.) Each side of the counter was embellished with cute smiley faced stickers from the collection.

Here are a few tips and tricks on how I put this Nutcracker together.

  1. The Nutcrackers arms and legs were removed from the body, making it easier to apply the patterned paper.  Next I painted the face, hands, and cuffs.
  2. Since the body is curved, when applying your paper cut slits along the edge of the paper as shown in picture 1 and 2. This will help the paper lay nicely as you're gluing it down.  I usually use mod podge to apply and seal projects like these.
  3. I created the white collar and bottom section of his shirt on my Silhouette and glued them in place. For his belt I used a strip of brown cardstock and then layered a white Doodle Cut border on top. The arms were covered with matching paper.
  4. A wood wheel was painted and used to create a layer cake. Using my silhouette a chipboard circle and border were cut out to fit the wheel and create the look of frosting. I cut off the original crown from the Nutcracker, but kept the dome shaped piece to use for my cupcake. The tray was made from some wood ovals that I had, but thick chipboard or foam board would work just as well. I cut a chipboard border to fit the oval to and give it a slight lip.
  5. The cupcake was painted and then Doodle-cut sprinkles were added. I made a cupcake wrapper out of chipboard painted it and covered it with an accordion folded strip.
  6. After the cakes were finished they were glued (I used wood glue) onto the head. Some faux fur was hot glued on his head and chin, then trimmed. Details like the teeth and eyebrows were cut from vinyl. For his buttons and eyes I used sprinkles. To help attach the tray to the Nutcracker's hand a hole was drilled underneath then it was glued a small dowel that was attached to the Nutcracker's hand.

Thanks for joining me today and happy crafting! :)

MADE WITH LOVE BIRTHDAY GIFT SET | with Wanda

Today I'm sharing a sweet birthday suite! A card, envelope and pillow box gift card holder that all match perfectly! The "Made With Love" collection is a great choice for birthday cards. And I always love using cupcakes as a theme for birthdays. Everyone loves cupcakes! These new Doodle Cuts are so fun and fabulous!

1

Here's a close up of the paper layers on the gift card holder. I made the gift card holder using the gorgeous gingham paper from the "Made With Love" collection and then decorated it with yummy papers and a sweet stamped birthday greeting. I die cut the cupcake parts from the papers in the collection and stamped the sentiment with the You Bake Me Happy Stamp Set!

1

The birthday card is a tri-fold card with a belly band made from papers and stickers. And one sweet little cupcake on top!!

1

The pillow box opens up to place a gift card inside and some paper confetti too. Very festive!

1

You can slide the belly band off the card to reveal the inside - again stamped with that awesome You Bake Me Happy stamp set in pretty pink ink.

I used more papers from the collection to line a matching pink envelope. I love how the card and the envelope go together so nicely. This is a great way to have your projects pop and look professional. It also shows some extra love by decorating the envelope!

1

I used stickers and Sprinkles to jazz up the outside of the envelope too - of course!

This project will work with any of your favorite Doodlebug Collections!! Great for Christmas, Mother's Day, Easter...any occasion. Just change up the main image (maybe change the cupcake to a gingerbread man...) No end to the fun possibilities!

MADE WITH LOVE RECIPE HOLDER | with Shellye

Today I'm sharing a repurposed Valentine sign that I turned into an everyday recipe holder using the new "Made With Love" Collection!

Any type of signage will work, but I've used a Valentine mason jar-shaped sign from the Dollar General.  I removed the jute bow and the gingham hearts before starting:

Next, I cut strips of patterned paper that matched the sizes of the "slats" and glued them over the painted area of the sign.

I wanted to add some color along the seams of the slats, so I cut strips of the Paper Frills in half and then glued them just along the edge.

I cut strips of paper to cover two wooden clothespins and then glue them to the two middle slats.  To the bottom right, I added a sticker and Doodle Pops!

To the top (below the metal lid) I added a pink scalloped background that I cut from a card base.  Next, I wound chunky twine around horizontally and then layered on die-cuts, stickers and Doodle Pops.

I love that the sign can be hung or placed on an easel for easy viewing of the recipe that's been clipped on.  What a sweet gift for your favorite baker...just add hand-written recipe cards and a blank booklet of the fun Recipe Cards!

MADE WITH LOVE SWEET COOKBOOK | with Miguel

Today I am happy to share my first project with the beautiful 'Made with Love Collection'.  It is an altered wood cupboard turned into a recipe book to store all those sweet recipes. How is that for a fun idea?

I started with the 12"x12" papers in the collection to cover the cabinet pieces and thus begin to give life to my composition in a super special way and to my style.

On the back I made a box with my scoring board to hold all the recipe cards. I kept decorating in a fun way with all the Made with Love icons, and placing a small title with the 'My Type' alphabet stickers.

At the top of my project I decorated with a wooden roller, which is very representative of the artisan work here in México.  All my composition is painted with acrylic paint in pastel.

Inside the drawer, I placed the beautiful pins from the 'Made with Love' collection.  They look beautiful inside, don't you think?  I also used some pop dots to give it dimension and it seems that they are totally real.

I say goodbye hoping that you like the project that I created as much as I do and that it will
inspire you.  Many thanks to Doodlebug Design for giving me the opportunity to show scrapbooking designs made in México.  Greetings and thank you for reading!

NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS DECORATED FRAME | with Shellye

I love to sit down with my Doodlebug Stamps, markers and just color the hours away!  After die-cutting the completed images (from the Night Before Christmas Stamp Set), I knew that I wanted to stage them on snowy hills, so I grabbed a wooden tray from my stash and got started:

My wooden tray measures 7"X18".  I first cut the blue snowflake paper to 7" wide and added it first.  From the Lily White Buffalo Check and the multi-snowflake papers, I cut the pieces as shown above.  I free-handed the shapes to form three different snowy hills.  The pieces were then layered on to the blue paper with foam adhesive to give dimension!

Next, I outlined the snowy hills with chunky twine and then staged the die-cut pieces and attached them with foam adhesive or glue.

The sticker sentiments from the This & That Sticker Sheet were added to each cluster.

I finished the design off with various Sprinkles and Gems!  I would love to find a square size...maybe two...and create another collage to hang along with this one!  I just love the way it turned out :)  Thank you for joining and Merry Christmas Wishes!
