This is for everyone to print and color and enjoy and I really hope you do. 

But it's also specifically for my Auntie Toni. Because Auntie Toni is a wonderful, loving woman who has been encouraging me for years just to be myself. Because I've been lucky enough to have family who said that just being the best me is enough, and who lived that truth for themselves and let me see their joy, love, laughter and the wisdom that came with it. That strength, resiliency and support has been the reason this page exists, why I was willing to dare to share my art and crafts.

Hidden Heart Mandala to color

This heart mandala was one of those that started out one way and ended up doing something different. I do like the final result though. The colored version above shows where the original heart is that I built the mandala around. If you color it differently the hearts aren't as obvious.

Alaska flag coloring page

"Eight stars of gold on a field of blue
Alaska's flag. May it mean to you
The blue of the sea, the evening sky,
The mountain lakes, and the flow'rs nearby;
The gold of the early sourdough's dreams,
The precious gold of the hills and streams;
The brilliant stars in the northern sky,
The "Bear," the "Dipper," and, shining high,
The great North Star with its steady light,
O'er land and sea a beacon bright.
Alaska's flag to Alaskans dear,
The simple flag of a last frontier" 

That's the Alaska state song written by Marie Drake, which describes our flag. The flag was designed by Benny Benson in a territory wide contest for school children.  Benny explained his design this way

"The blue field is for the Alaska sky and the forget-me-not, an Alaska flower. The North Star is for the future of the state of Alaska, the most northerly in the Union. The dipper is for the Great Bear — symbolizing strength.”

Here's what our flag looks like- it's a simple design, rich with meaning for Alaskan.

 Alaska flag day is July 9th, which didn't actually inspire the coloring page, but it is the reason I'm posting it. Click the images below for larger versions to print and color. They will print in portrait format to fit the page.

New mandala based on my new logo

If you'll look above, you'll notice that I changed my banner. I re-drew the heart and bar, and rearranged it a little. Because I really like the new heart, I put it on this mandala. I hope you enjoy it!

Easy Jeweled Mandala to Color

I hope you enjoy this mandala! The colors I chose for my example are based on my children's birthstones. The Amazing Turnip Girl is ruby and William is blue zircon.

But there are so many other ways to color this in. I thought it looked like jewelry, with all the other spots colored in, it will look very different! Click for the bigger versions.

Apple Coloring Page

Now that all the kids are going back to school, I wanted to draw and apple to color. I'll be posting an embroidery pattern based off this design later! Apples for back to school, or for Once Upon a Time fans. I *love* modern fairy tales, and I'm really looking forward to the next season.

My original idea involved knotwork, it didn't work out the way I wanted.

In other news, major windstorms knocked out power all over Anchorage yesterday. In my neighborhood, the power was out for 14 hours. 

Heart Swirl Mandala

Still playing with CorelDrawX6! Ultimately, what I want to do is make laser cut pendants based on my mandalas using Ponoko, and possibly some hair forks as well. Right now it's just getting used to the program.

This morning we went to Value Village for their 50% off sale. TG was thrilled to find a nice big piece of black vinyl, and I picked up a lot of cross stitch fabric. We also found two short sleeved shirts in my husband's size since his current job allows more casual dress. I'm eager to see what TG makes with the vinyl.
