Artist Statement
From hand drawn to digital concept, to finished piece I make work in traditional ways with sewing, cutting, stitching and embellishing by hand to create 3D artwork that can be used to educate children or adults, or even just to brighten someone’s day. We as humans attach a lot of emotions and memories to soft toys, I incorporate this to create whimsical and fun handmade items, inspired by cultures from around the world, current media, trends, issues in life and my love of cartoons stemming from the 90’s to current. As an artist I listen to my inner child and my Artisan nature in the materials I use and the imaginative outcomes I produce, be it 2D Illustration, Graphic design or 3D items. I use a large variety of bright colors and my main goal is to make people smile.
Cartoons, Anime, Japanese fashion, Cultures from around the world and my own life journey, growing up in the 90’s and exploring these genres and themes inspire me to create. My Dissertation focused on Lolita fashion and its empowerment to let people be who they wanted to be, despite looking like fictional characters or princesses as one such example of developing character in unusual ways I have explored. On a path of discovery, during the course of 3 years I have found myself taking up a needle and thread and ‘stitching’ into a whole world of crafting of the Artisans. In doing so I have discovered my love of textiles, elegance, fashion and toy making. I have used Victorian influences in my work, with a Japanese twist in one of my most recent project's ‘Lola rabbit’, which was inspired by the very cute and charming Lolita Fashion.
My recent work I am creating a select group of super foods that are healthy for the heart in an awareness campaign to take care of your ticker, serious in real life but soft in the approach and handmade by nature. Here come the Hearty Heroes!!!!!
