Dragon Dreamer | Sue Plumb

Hi everyone!
Sue Plumb here today with my latest design team project for you. Today I am sharing a page I created my altered book art journal using the Aagar the Emotional (dragon) stamp as a focal point. I have been dying to use this stamp and I figured what better way than to give it an entire page in my journal.

I started my page by giving it a coat of gesso to prime the paper before using some Faber-Castell Gelatos to add colour. I simply scribbled randomly around the page before using a baby wipe to blend the lines out.

Next, I turned my attention to my Aagar the Emotional focal image, which I stamped onto smooth white cardstock before colouring with Faber-Castell watercolour pencils. I then used a water brush to blend the pencil lines out before cutting the image out. Once I had cut around the image, I used the same Gelatos as I had used for the background to colour the small amount of white space around the edges.

Once I had my dragon complete, I followed the same process with the Doodle Frame stamp, and set the pieces aside so I could add them to my page. I also stamped out some hearts with the Scribble Heart stamp, which I also coloured and cut out.

Next, I turned my attention back to my page. I used the Ethos Shape stamp repeatedly around the page with black ink to add interest to the background before sticking down all the pieces I had prepared.
I used the She Was a Dreamer stamp to add the quote to my page; then Doodle Dots stamp with green ink to add some subtle detail and a Stabilo All pencil to finish off with a bit of shadowing and scribble.

Here's a closer look at the finished page...

Thanks for stopping by so I could share this with you. I hope I have inspired you to get inky too!

Since Earth Day is this week, I have decided to decorate this journal that came to my husband as a goodie from the car dealership. It's a blank book, with lined pages – perfect for jotting down ideas and things to remember... BUT it's not me. Enter Art Anthology Gemstones ~ Dimensional Paint in Emerald and Flourite and Colorations Spray in Wild Orchid along with my stash of VLVS! to decorate this journal in my favorite color PURPLE and also to disguise it from the hubs {so he doesn't realize I swiped this out of the recycling bin - LOL}.

In the process of creating my monoprinted backgrounds - I discovered the Art Anthology Gemstones ~ Dimensional Paint works great for a resist technique. Here's what I did...

I started with my Amazing DIY No-Gelatin Printing Plate and set out to make some monoprinted backgrounds using the Gemstones ~ Dimensional Paint. I went with the Emerald first and placed some onto my surface and spread out evenly with a brayer. **A note** When monoprinting you have to work quickly with this paint as it dries quickly. I pressed the "Harlequin Diamond Background #18920" stamp into the wet paint and pulled back making a reverse image. I quickly placed the stamp onto another paper to remove the paint and pressed a paper onto my rubber slab to pick up the design.

This is my first pull from the Art Anthology Gemstones ~ Dimensional Paint in Emerald.

There was some leftover paint that dried on the plate, but that's OK. I then sprayed the Art Anthology Colorations Spray in Wild Orchid and swiped the print into the beads of color. I blotted away any excess spray from the green painted areas with a paper towel.

Photo on left is full resist background and on right is an up-close detail.
The texture and color is yummy!

How about another! I blotted off the remaining mist onto a blank paper {nothing goes to waste} and applied some of the Art Anthology Gemstones ~ Dimensional Paint in Flourite and spread out with my brayer, then repeated my steps.

This one is even better!!! Some of the Emerald that was dried on the plate was picked up in this second pulled print. I love the contrast of the monochromatic resist - this will be for the front of my notebook.

I trimmed each to fit and adhered to my cover using Miracle Sheets - makes altering notebooks quick and easy. Using a small paintbrush I added some of the Flourite around the edges to distress and get rid of the white edges... really I just wanted to get my fingers all purple. Now I'm ready for a little inky embellishing with some fun stamps!

Guest Designer : Irit Shalom

Today we have a special guest on the blog - Irit Shalom! She's been an avid fan of VLVS! for quite some time, and I'm excited to have her work featured on the blog. You won't be disappointed! She's a master stamp layerer and you're going to drool over her piece today.

My name is Irit and I am from sunny Isreal. In my "real life" I am a dentist, but for the last 5 years I do it as a part time job, because I need some extra time for my scrapping and crafting addiction and I have a lot of fun doing something else after 25 years of dentistry. I have been married for 31 years to a retired high police officer, who is the full time family cook these days.

I am a mom to 4 grown ups: 2 sons and twin daughters. The empty nest is probably the main reason for my obsession for crafting - finally I have some time for myself. My oldest son is an army officer, married and a father of my 2 adorable grandchildren. My second son is "a world traveler" - for the last 7 years after his army service he is out of Israel for at least 9 months a year - lives and works in Spain. My twins are college graduates, just got their first real jobs and one of them is getting married in a few months.
For many years it was a polymer clay and jewelry making artist, but after I saw a scrapbook layout for the first time in my life (only 6 years ago during my visit to USA), I finally understood that I am in love with paper. Today I mostly scrap, stamp and do altered art. I have been a design team member for about 20 manufacturers in the past. Right now I design for mainly stamp and tool companies around the globe. I was published in print in Israel, USA, UK and Australia and web published in every possible on-line magazine around the world. Last, but not least- my other addiction is..... Folk dancing. So if I am not in my crafting room - I am probably dancing. I am totally thrilled to be a VLVS guest designer and hope to do my best.

From Irit: First of all I want to say huge Thanks for this chance to be VLVS guest designer for August. I got a lot of fantastic stamps to use for my projects and as I have much more at home it was very easy to make a big project and to have any stamp you need to make it.

This altered 5 paged project was made as an "inspiration lifting" art piece. But then I lifted it from myself, so it's totally right. I made a similar project like 18 months ago for the recent, just out of the print, issue of Rubber Stamp Madness and I made 4 "Houses of Everything" for the big article using RSM house template. I think that we all have a lot of different houses in our life that we fill with things we love or dream of. For the original project I picked houses of Dream, Imagination, Adventure and Knowledge.

This new project, made for VLVS Guest post was made in the similar way, but after all it's totally different. I made 4 different house shapes, free hand cut; I used only VLVS stamps, quite a lot of them; I made totally different house this time and I called them "Houses of Anything". I also picked 3 of 4 houses that are totally different from the original work: house of Memories, Hope, and Art and added the Adventure.

All of the pages were made in a similar way: resist emboss technique with white and black embossing powders over clear embossing ink. More stamping was made with black permanent ink. Some of the shapes were stamped with image masks; some were stamped one over another to make these themed collages. All roofs were separately stamped and name of the house was added with letter stickers. Over some pages I
added stamped and hand cut images for the 3d textured look. Each page was colored with inks or water colors and I added just a few chipboards and stickers to make it more interesting. And if anyone, who knows my work, wonders why this piece is so "flat" and not over embellished as my usual work, the answer is simple: I was asked to make a project with VLVS stamps. They should be a star of this piece and
not lots of embellishments and my glue gun. Thanks for reading this long post and see you again in two weeks with a totally different VLVS project.

Aliens and Organizers.

Hello :-)  It's Mary joining you today to share a little VLVS 'stampin' love' in the form of a brand new organizer---ready to help me stay on track this year!!

It all started with an old book cover...

The aged look of this cover was far too pretty to cover completely, so I chose to use only a single focal embellishment.

I created a freeform heart from paper clay and stamped into it with my all-time favorite stamp lately, Cross Stitch.  White paint and some Lindy's Stamp Gang spray mist gave some fabulously bright color,  while a bit of black paint brought out the amazing texture the stamp left in the clay.

The inside cover was rockin' some amazing handwriting from the original owner, so I opted to keep it simple with more misting and a single image.

How amazing is the Alien Circle stamp??  I think it adds a bit of mystery a la Area 51!

The divider pages were collaged with ephemera from Gauche Alchemy and some patterned paper from the 'ol scrap bin with a thin coat of white paint to unify everything.  I've repeated the Alien Circle and Cross Stitch stamps using Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder and Staze-On black ink.  A bit more spray misting and she was finished!!

I absolutely adore mixing stamped stitching with the real deal!

I gotta say, I'm super happy with how it came out.  All that 'stampin'-stitchin'-painty' goodness is the perfect combo of function meets fab!

Ok guys, that's it for me.  Thanks so much for joining me today, and I'll see ya soon!!

xx Mary

THE APOCALYPSE IS HERE!

Hello, Tera here. I'm so excited to be sharing my very first Design team project with you. My first DT project was actually inspired by Amy's piece HERE I love the idea of a piece that makes you think and creates a sense of mystery and wonder. I decided to use some of my favorite Viva Las VegaStamps! to create a post apocalyptic feel to my new altered book/Journal cover.

To make this I started by covering the book I wanted to alter with a vintage book page to create a fun background to work with (this was after I placed the Eyelets and wire wrapping). Next I stamped the Man In Gas Mask 2 1/2 x 3  on a separate book page and fussy cut it out so i could play with were to position it. I decided I wanted to add a little grunge to the book so I partial stamped Nautical Collage 3 x 6 1/4 on the bottom left then took a paper towel and immediately smudged the image out a bit. (I also stamped It on a piece of shrink plastic which I later added to the upper right to bring in symmetry to the piece.) The next layer was the fabulous Coffee Ring Stain 2 3/4 x 2 1/4. After the base stamps were placed I added a clock sticker, a lace Doily, a set of Tim Holtz wings and a fragment doll. I added some chain around the angel with a fabulous UMWOW Studio Gear Mash Gear with a tiny heart and golden chips inside. I also added gears above the clock the decide to add a clock key as well. Now that I had the cover built up I decided to add some detail to the spine, I made a fun label with some inked grunge board scraps I had, placed some Eyelets and used a word from the book pages (I adhered this with Miracle Tape, as well as the shrink plastic piece since this fabulous tape is super strong and clear). I decided the Apocalypse 3/4 x 2 1/2 stamp was the perfect word for the side and also stamped it on some scraps from the book page. The Finishing touches were the knob, chain and keys. As well as one of my favorite stamps the Pen Tips 2 3/4 x 2! I decided to only use one of them and stamped it on a piece of cardboard which I had colored with silver Inka Gold, I fussy cut the piece and bent the edges down to look like a real pen nib tip! :D I Hope you love this piece as much as I do. I love the feel of vintage meets apocalypse, the good vs evil, and the pieces of lost history like the keys and pen tips.

All stamping was done with Ranger Archival Pad #0 Jet Black except the stamping on the shrink plastic which was done with StazOn Jet Black Ink Pad.

Happy Stamping Everyone, I hope you enjoy the mystery and sense of curiosity that this piece invokes!

Do you believe in fairies?

Hello, Nataliya here :)
I want to ask you, do you believe in fairies? I believe! Because one of them moved in my altered-book:

And this is just the beginning of our history!

My fairy dressed in a shiny attire, as it should to all the fairies:)

"Home" for fairies I made from 7Dots paper (Domestic Gooddes Collection). And here is the fairy -
