This would be a great idea if there were no media filter, but at least CNN and YouTube are taking submissions from the "Average American" and putting them to the candidates. One of the things I would like to see as the Presidential race continues is the "Average American" talking about why they would vote for a certain candidate and debating people who want to vote for someone else. It could open up the potential for political discussion all over the country, especially if those engaging in debate have gained as much information about their candidate as possible. The possibilities for this medium of communication are endless, and I don't think we're making proper use of the technology. What CNN is doing is a start, but we could be doing MUCH better.

sadly, elections have quit being a personal, community type affair and has turned into a slick campaign designed NOT to show who the candidate really is.
Some days I am really afraid of the process. For the last 40 years, the results have been frightening.
And now Libby's jail time is commuted.

But this is an opportunity for us to CHANGE the process. Talk about what's important to you and why. Get the message out there. I think people would like to know more about the candidates and the people who support them if they could.

My only hope with the Libby thing is that finally people will wake up and see Bush for what he is - a corrupt nepotist. It's difficult for people to wrap their heads around what Libby told who, and when, etc. But it's very easy for people to understand that a jury found him guilty, a judge sentenced him in accordance with the laws that apply to all citizens, and Bush ignored the justice system completely.
OK, sorry - off topic,
I have little hope of the communal politics coming back precisely because everyone takes it so personal now. You can't have a political discussion (at least not in my family for instance) where if you criticize policies, someone doesn't take it personally. Also, with the current GOP, it's difficult to remove the religious debate from the political debate - and religion is even more volatile a topic than politics. So people end up just getting defensive about their own standpoint rather than having an open discussion.

I think that's why it helps to remove the personal element and do it over the internet. You can still take it personally with people you don't know, but they're not family, so the damage is less harsh.
I think the YouTube questions are a great idea. On Libby, GRRR!
I think bloggers like us need to start doing this. Once I get a camera, I'm going to start doing this!
