After a week and a half of being under the weather and no desire to sketch, it was nice to get out from under that cloud and put some ink on paper.

Sketchbook, Jet Fuel Cafe revisited.
I had some time today to sketch at the Jet Fuel Cafe. Here's the other sketch I did of Jet Fuel a few months back.

Some
people go to a bar on a Friday night. I go to the laundry mat. It
usually guarantees a few machines. I was hoping there would be at least
another person there so I wouldn't just be sketching a long alley of a
room. Wish granted. He was deep into a scratch and win lottery game
which gave me the perfect distraction for me to sketch him.

Dropped by a local coffee house to do some sketching. I sat next to a gentle who might be a potential "patron". He expressed interested in a pen portrait. Who says sketching in a cafe isn't profitable!

Sketchbook
I stopped by the Bloor Gladstone Library today after work to do some sketching. What isn't captured in this drawing is the guy who was sitting in the seat next to me, humming and swaying to himself.

I was craving some pho yesterday and I was in the neighbourhood of Pho Tien Thanh. Some consider the Golden Turtle, which is just on the next block to be the better pho house, but I usually go to this one because it has greater ambiance, as you could see. Who wouldn't want a sleeping employee in the front of house?! (Actually, I think he was the owner.)
By the way, order the no. 24. It's pho with rare and well done beef with tendon and tripe. Delicious, but they did skimp on the tendon and tripe. Satisfied and feeling jipped all at the same time.

I was feeling slightly nauseous before I
started sketching at the Bloor Gladstone Library after work today and
after I finished this spread the nausea disappeared. Something was
reaffirmed today: sketching is my meditation.

Stan the Man
Another trip up to my dad's place and that means it's "Stan the Man" time. It's always challenging to sketch my father, but he's always a good sport and doesn't move that often while he watches tv. Thanks, dad.

For the first time in many years I went to the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. It's a chance for urban dwellers to get in touch with their respective inner ruralist. I don't think I actually got in touch with that part of me but I did enjoy seeing all the livestock that were present.

Sketchbook
Well it's that time of year again, when I start looking for warm, public places to sketch in. I returned to one of my favourite haunts: the Bloor Gladstone Library.
I didn't realize that they were closing at 5pm so I had to squeeze in a quick 45 min. sketch. The one good thing about a time constrained drawing like this is that I couldn't be nit picky about everything. In my world a 45 minute drawing is equivalent to a 30 sec. gesture drawing. (yeah, I'm a slow sketcher.)

The last day of my oil painting class and I had thought it would just be critiques. So, I didn't bring my paints. Oops, but it did give me an opportunity to sketch some of my classmates,

One of the benefits of sketching people in public and letting them know you're sketching them is meeting them...getting to know hem a bit. Megan was today's subject of my Starbucks' hotseat image. She was a real trooper and didn't move all that much because she was studying for her LSAT's ;). I also found out that she and her husband just moved to Toronto and have been here for only 2 months… not the most glamorous time to move to Toronto, but Megan and husband welcome to Toronto. It gets better in the summer, I swear.

Is it really surf and turf if the surf part also inhabits the land?
A few hours at the ROM drawing. I was fortunate that someone else had that same thought!

I ventured down to the St. Lawrence Market and three separate people said sorry when I asked them if I could sketch them. What was really funny was the second lady. When I asked her she immediately put her hand to her hair and started preening it self consciously. Hilarious! So I was left with sketching people from the back.
