Two AttemptsRemember when Jesus heals the blind man but it takes two attempts? For some strange reason, that is blessing me big time. Even Jesus needed two attempts. I find tremendous encouragement in that. And I think there are a few lessons to be learned.
I think many of us give up after our first attempt so we forfeit the miracle. Keep praying for the miracle. Give God a chance! I also think some of us are satisfied with a partial miracle. Don't settle for half a miracle. Keep believing God for the whole thing! Finally, some miracles happen in stages. It doesn't happen all the way right away.
Mark 8:25 says: "Then Jesus laid hands on his eyes
again." The operative word is "
again." Is there something you need to pray for
again?"

i have been a little frustrated recently with the world’s “tit-for-tat” mentality. it goes like this, “he/she isn't nice to me, so why should i be nice in return?”, “he/she wouldn’t appreciate it, so i shouldn’t even bother”, “he/she hurt me, and so, to ultimately win this game, i have to inflict even more pain on him/her". you get my drift.
i have been really disheartened lately by the general lack of love and compassion that has been going around. when something breaks your heart and you feel moved to do something about it, but people tell you “why do you care? she doesn’t even act like she likes you!”. does it really matter if she doesn’t appreciate or respond to my efforts?
or how people tell me i have no reason to be disappointed, simply because it proves i made the right decision all those months back. but how can i communicate my genuine desire to see him a better person? a person who walks with integrity?
or how some feel the amount of effort invested into a person should equal the amount of effort the person invested into you. how, when you put everything on a scale, it should balance out perfectly. if so, where does the satisfaction of going the extra mile come from?
if God acted on a “tit-for-tat” basis, we would all be screwed.
i think one of the reasons why His gift to us is so huge is because no one will ever be able to top it. and He knew it right from the start, but His love and compassion made Him choose to endure the cross, to put into our hands a beautiful gift called life, to make us His regardless of how unworthy we are.
no matter how undeserving we think the other party is, would it not be a beautiful thing to give something they cannot outgive in return? to sow seeds of love, compassion and forgiveness? to invest time, energy, money even, into their lives?
just a thought.

bob (my team's web designer) and i were taking full advantage of our bosses' absence this morning. we worked a little, slacked a little, and msned a whole lot =P
we covered topics ranging from his recent perth trip to photography, from touristy destinations in asia to his upcoming wedding in july, then moved on to deeper topics like God and relationships.
something he said really jumped out at me, so i'm gonna quote him here =P
“if God wants to be heard or understood (with regards to a certain issue), He will surely have His ways. i mean, come on, He’s God.. so if there’s something that He gotta let you know, He will make sure you get it.”

The Weavers Skillful HandCorrie Ten Boom is one of my heroes. I put my faith in Christ after watching the theatrical version of her life story, The Hiding Place.
Corrie used to speak to audiences about her experiences and she would often look down while she talked. It seemed like she was reading her notes, but she was actually working on a piece of needlepoint. After telling her story of the cruelty in the concentration camps and the death of her father and sister, Corrie would hold up the
underside of the needlepoint. It was a jumble of colors and threads with
no discernible pattern. And she would say "this is how we see our lives." Then she would
turn it over to reveal the pattern. And Corrie would conclude by saying: "This is how God views your life and someday we will have the privilege of seeing it from His point of view."
A few weeks ago, John Hasler, our Berlin Campus Pastor, was in Amsterdam and he visited the house where the Ten Boom family hid Jews from the Nazis. I didn't realize that Corrie had written a poem related to the needlepoint story. John brought me back a copy.
My life is but a weaving between my God and me,
I do not choose the colors, He works so steadily,
Oft times He weaves in sorrow, and I in foolish pride,
Forget He sees the upper, and I the underside.
Not till the loom is silent, and the shuttles cease to fly
Will God unroll the canvas and explain the reason why.
The dark threads are as needful in the Weavers skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver in the pattern He has planned."

my mum switched channels, and i leapt a foot into the air because my boss was on tv (so this is what they came to film the other day. and for this teeny weeny segment, we had to spend one whole day clearing out the office -___-).
i pointed it out to my mum, who in turn jumped a foot into the air, because for some reason unknown to me, she always assumed my boss to be a drop dead gorgeous hunk and what she got was a middle-age, balding man on screen =P

More & BetterEphesians 3:20 is one of my all time favorite verses:
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…That’s a hot one right there. An astonishing promise. God can do so much
more than what you’re expecting. His performance isn’t limited to the confines of your imagination. The implications of this statement are hard to believe…but simple to understand. It’s a straightforward fact:
The wildest dreams you can conceive don’t even compare to the endless power of God.
I must have quoted that verse hundreds of times. And every time I do, I kind of interpret it this way:
God wants to give me
more of whatever I’m asking for.
If I ask for a certain level of provision, He can exceed what I need and give me even more provision.
If I ask for favor with a certain person, He can give me even more favor than I asked for with that person.
But I’ve learned that sometimes God doesn’t bless you with more of the thing you asked for.
Instead, He blesses you with something completely different. He rewards you with a different kind of currency. He switches the category altogether. Sometimes the way God exceeds our expectations isn’t by giving us more of what we think we need…He gives us something that He knows we need even more. Instead of repairing the thing that’s broken, He gives you brand new equipment.
In other words, sometimes the
immeasurably more takes on a completely different form.
Instead of giving you the promotion at work, He gives you more opportunity to spend time with your family.
Instead of sending you a boyfriend, He sends you more opportunity to serve Him in your season of singleness.
Sometimes God gives you more of the same.
Sometimes He gives you something even better than that.
Be confident that whatever He gives you is the best option available."
