ting:

waiting for my turn in the shower before i run back to the place i've been calling "home" for the past three nights (my poor bed feels abandoned. then again, sue me for not being able to study at home).

because wengyan's birthday was just over (and because i'm too braindead to blog words), here are photos of her surprise celebration! :) happy belated birthday girl.. hope all was GREEEEEAT!

a blurry image of the birthday girl and her cake and the table (me).

random group shots (because my finger naturally gravitates towards the camera's shutter):

the group shot wengyan is dying to have =p

and then some random candid moments (i might just get killed for posting up some of these):

my adorable adopted younger brother. :)

(ps: don't kill me selena!)

the posed shots:

failed ballerinas.

on the way home when i was bored in the car.

ting:

i wish i had last semester's insommia back. this sem, it seems like all i'm interested in doing is sleeping. and when i'm not sleeping, i'm blogging. bah.

jetstar called me today regarding our japan flight (urmmm for the uninformed, i'd be jetting off to japan on the 23rd of nov from aussieland). our flight back to sydney from nagoya on the 3rd dec got cancelled, so they booted us to the 2nd and in addition, we get a free upgrade to star class (ok i actually abused my position as a disgruntled customer and requested for a free upgrade. the benefits of studying services marketing. =P though i wonder how "first class" in a budget airline can be any more luxurious. will definitely share that experience.) and a $300 jetstar voucher for future use. whoohoo! can they cancel more flights in the future??

so since i was in almost full-blown procrastination mode, i went to surf the jetstar website to see if i could utilise that $300 for anything. was surprised to see once again sale fares splayed all over the page. virginblue was more or less the same and it was not until i visited tiger airways' website that i realised why. hahaha... they really are threatened by tiger's presence huh? though i don't know how they can afford to continue pre-empting tiger's entry into the budget airline market, especially when tiger offers ridiculous beyond ridiculous sales on a regular basis (they were having $0.99 flights to phuket and other parts of asia again... and $9.99 flights to various parts of china. wahlau! but travel is only restricted to january and i had to give it a miss because i don't know if/when i'll be back in singapore.). but well, who's complaining? not the consumers for sure. :) this will be one interesting price war to watch and enjoy (though, being singaporean, i'd probably want to support tiger).

in other news, i'm hooked on the phantom of the opera soundtrack. sighhhh i wish i could go for it again, if only so i can melt at the sound of the phantom's voice.

in other other news, i submitted the documentation for my honours application. they waived the $100 application fee for me. yay!

in other other other news, i'd better get back to studying, lest i get axed by very angry people back in singapore for ruining our "conquer australia" grand trip next year should i not make it for honours.

**edited**

my dad just informed me about his latest purchase - a polarising filter. AHHHHH! can he hurry up and get to melbourne because i wanna use it! plus he is eyeing a 300mm zoom lens... sheez! i want an SLR myself!!!

ting:

it's not exactly a fresh revelation; rather, it's something i've known for ages and i guess i'm just trying to remind myself.

it's so easy for us to make the wrong decisions about things, to draw the wrong conclusions, to deliver the wrong verdict. all because we see only parts of the picture, because we may be biased in our thoughts/feelings, because our judgment may be seriously flawed.

so why not let the One who has perfect vision, the One who sees the picture in its entirety, the One who knows His plans for us reveal in His time what He has in store for us?

it may hurt, it may be uncomfortable, it may not be something you desire. but which will you choose, life's comforts or Jesus?

for now, i just want it to be all about Him.

***************

something tim and i were talking about just now (when me popping over to his room to ask him something biblical turned into a two hour talk about goodness knows what). and something i remembered from a few weeks ago.

the start of every month is mission sunday, and this month (i think), the church showed us footage from their latest mission trip to india. the cameras captured their poverty, their lack of luxuries and basically, a life that will make many who are so accustomed to the wealth they enjoy shudder. yet, when the cameras zoomed in on the faces of the locals there who were engaged in worship, i could feel their genuine gratefulness and their joy.

their band was nowhere as elaborate as what we enjoy in church. no drums, no keyboards, no bass, no backup singers, no choir. even with all these, we sometimes complain that their pitch is off, their melody is off and we use that as an excuse for not immersing ourselves in God. all they had was a guitar and several tambourines (if my memory serves me correctly). yet, their joy and passion was enough to radiate through the very core of them.

and they were so incredibly grateful at what our church did for them, which probably didn't mean much to us. i remember our pastor saying they got them several bicycles as a start and i was thinking... "bicycles??????". but yet, when the whole group of them gathered to voice their appreciation, you couldn't help but be touched. i knew i definitely was. there is simply so much to learn from them.

how is it, living in the first world with all its luxuries and comforts, we can still find reasons to be unhappy and reasons to grumble and whine about all that we have around us? our internet screws up, we complain like there's no tomorrow. be glad we even have internet! our laptop crashes, it's the end of the world. what about those people who never even set eyes on a technology gadget? we hunger after material possessions, how about those who can barely obtain their basic necessities?

i guess contentment and appreciation is what we should really learn through these people. like what pastor steve kelly said (i was preparing for tomorrow's cell and i accidentally watched the entire DVD. it's really good, grab it off me if you're interested), we should change our attitudes from "entitlement" to "appreciation".

it's my prayer tonight that, like the locals in india, we may cast off our worldly concerns and just immerse ourselves in Him.

ting:

it is not a nice feeling to panic, to go "oh man there is absolutely no way i can achieve that", to look at everything you have before you and just crumble because of the lack of time (16 days to exams) and the amount to cover (5 subjects times 2 lectures per week times 12 weeks of semester).

it's a dangerous thing really, when you start listening to/being convinced by the whispers from hell.

and then, i came across Ephesians 3:20. and this reassurance will give me what i need to just hang in there with renewed faith.

thank You God. :) for everything.

staying away from msn and other distractions for the time being. so email/sms if you need anything. :)

woke up this morning and i could have been convinced i was back in singapore. high of 33 degrees. YUCKS. it was SO HOT. all i had to do was sit and breathe and i'd start sweating.

assignments are over and done with, hurray! now for exams. and i've to start mugging like there'll be no tomorrow. waiting for nick now (where is that fella???) so we can go somewhere cool and hit the books.

sigh. slap me if i procrastinate too much.

ting:

still in a state of bemusement.

hoped for it, didn't expect it, got it. =) so now comes practice and more practice, as our long-winded fella spent the entire walk back emphasising.

three people i must make mention of. enoch, weng yan and pammie. =) thank you guys so much (and for persisting and sitting with me till 11pm). =) it was good.

and apologies to selena, nick and the rest for keeping you all back! =(

in other news, i was on for photography tonight. and oh boy, was it fun! fantastic shots were slightly minimal though, coz the lighting was pretty bad. icks. but it's nice to finally have my camera in hand again and have a good reason to go clicking around. =)

ting:

thinking about the four hour long (approximately) conversation i just had.

maybe one day, we will finally learn the truth. whatever it may be.

and i hope to goodness i'll never have to use the id and password you gave me. i still think it's a totally sadistic idea. but yeah.

***

after dinner today, i started having totally random soya bean milk cravings. so while we were at the tram stop, i poked nick and said i wanted to go get soya bean. i meant for me to go alone (or maybe with just stasha), as the rest had a test tomorrow but somehow or rather, the entire troop followed me to the store. sorry guys! =(

anyway, here was the deal. one bottle costs $1, but you somehow can get 3 bottles for $1.70. fantastic? righto!

in the store, i realised the stock in the un-refrigerated section was almost gone (only one bottle was left). was wandering around aimlessly and stopped in front of the refrigerated section, where i spotted the same brand. yay! but hang on a second.. the price tag seemed a little bit too pricey. i thought i should double check, just to be on the safe side and so, i grabbed a bottle out of the fridge and headed to the counter.

me: excuse me, how much does this one bottle cost?
girl at counter (GAC): $1.
me: ok.. how much does 3 bottles cost?
GAC: $3. (she must be thinking i never took maths as a subject.)
me: huh. why does it cost so much more than the un-refrigerated ones when they're exactly the same?
GAC: oh, that's because we've already put it in the fridge for you.
me: .........................................

i don't think i need to describe my expression when that happened.

but i still got my soya bean milk, thanks to stasha who suggested asking them if they had more stock, and double thanks to nick for charming the lady at the counter into checking for us. =D

ting:

another all-nighter at someone's place.

i should stop invading my friends' homes like this.

but then, i blame my inability to do anything study-related solely on the fact i'm too comfortable in my own room, so much so i often get distracted by everything i have around me.

thanks sweetie. =) you really spoilt me, what with chocolates, cookies and cupcakes.

and yay! i got my final assignment for this week out well before the time deadline (it's 7.18am now)! =)

three more assignments to get through for this semester (and possibly, the last three i will have in my life, assuming i don't do honours), then we can bring on the exams.

all these late (sleepless) nights made me rediscover heaps of songs i used to listen to in the past.

slight nostalgia.
