Dip dye flowers

I am big on natural things. I promise I'm not the sort who would nilly willy add coloring to my food or things in general. But the test tube vase I put together recently has proven to be my undoing; they have been beckoning me to do something scientific all week. And all I could think of was this bit of science from primary school.
I cut some white daisies from the garden, popping them into the test tube vase. Then I filled each test tube with water and added a teaspoon of food colouring to each tube and kept my fingers crossed. They worked! In as little as 3 hours.
3 hours later
8 hours later, I removed the flowers from the dye. I honestly don't mind the coloured tips -they are quite pretty. I just may have do further experiments with this. All in the name of science, of course.

Do you remember this science project from primary school too?

Little things, lately

Life has been quiet lately; I could get used to this lazy living quite easily. The weather has been kind - no rain and heaps of sun, just the way I like it. Here are a few other random little things that have brought a smile to my face recently.

Plates adorned with roses make me happy. My vintage plate collection is growing! I realise I'm particularly fond of these.
A new friend for Frankie. Is it wrong that I wanted to keep this for myself?
The perfect little red cape coat. Chanced upon this, tried it on for fun and ended up loving it.
Beautiful shiny pomegranate seeds. Have you eaten these before? They are sour, juicy and strangely addictive. I will only eat these at home because I like to suck the juices out of them and spit out the seeds like a classy lady.
What little things are making you happy?

Kitchen makeover

I have a new kitchen! And did I mention Stu built this new kitchen himself? Apart from the electrical and plumbing work, Stu did everything else (demolition of the old kitchen, tiling, installation, building and painting). For a bit over 3 weeks, everything in the house was covered in a layer of dust and we survived on take-out everyday.

I've never seen Stuart as tired as he was working on the reno and I too, was pretty frustrated at times with the inconvenience of not having a kitchen. But we both had to grin and bear it as we knew it was for the good of the house (and for us) in general. In the end, we have a fabulous kitchen with shiny new appliances to match. Totally worth it.

And what do you know? Barely 2 weeks after the kitchen reno, Stu already has another home project lined up for next year (bathroom!)

Paint the town red

My girlfriends and I celebrated my hens by painting the town red- bollywood style on the weekend. It was fun. Crazy fun.We did a bollywood dance class and learned a really awesome ass-kicking dance routine. Boy, we totally rocked it, I think we may have to perform on our wedding night. Haa, just maybe.Afterwards, we moved on to this trendy hotspot where the food kept coming and the drinks kept flowing, and did some celebrity spotting. It was all very civilised; no penis straws, no strippers - it was just the way I liked it.
All in all, a mighty awesome day. A day that fond memories are made of.

Though I have to say, I must be getting too old for all this partying because my feet went to sleep in protest to my high heels long before I did and I still tired today.

What did you do on the weekend?
