Weekend in the "Brig" City

This weekend my mom and dad came to see the boys play soccer. You know I think I am finally getting the basic idea of soccer, well kind of. I do know this, watching little kids play soccer is painful. I love to watch my boys doing anything, however it is true love for someone to watch little kid soccer. That being said, Spencer and Mica had great games. Mica's games are more fun to watch than Spencer's. The bigger kids are a more organized mass of kids going after the ball. They seem to be able to pass the ball better, and they play positions which helps to keep the mass confusion down.Mica is the one in the middle with the red jersey, navy blue sweats, and purple ball.

Saturday late afternoon my dad, Scott, and I took the boys hiking up the mountains behind our house. They had a blast. Even Mica had a great time. Spencer led the whole way with a little bit of instruction. Kai kept up by saying, "wake up dad, wake up for me." It was a good hike, and Kai did great keeping up. He was sure that we were, "en-dangered", and that we were going to find a cougar. I think he meant we were "in danger", but earlier we were talking about the "endangered" ground hogs that live on the golf course in Cedar. I think he picks up little phrases that Mica says, and has no clue how to use them in context because he doesn't know what they mean. Like the other day we were reading a book about cats and Kai says, "mom all cats are male." What?? It is all about background knowledge, he obviously needs more background knowledge. I have been having this same conversation with my mom and Sherrie (my neighbor and good friend), vocabulary, reading, and comprehension are all about background knowledge.
This picture was taken from one of the bluffs above our house. Right behind us is a gravel pit, just to the left of the other houses is our house.

As most people have heard by now we have a huge deer problem. Mostly I think that it is Scott and I who have a deer problem. Off and on this spring we have gotten a strong whiff of a deer that didn't make it through the winter. We figured that there must be a deer above our house, well we found it. This afternoon was particularly bad. The deer is just over the fence and a little to the north. They seem to keep torturing us even after they are dead. They mock us, it seems like they want to drive us from our house. Like the movie Poltergeist, or some form of mafia. Maybe Scott did have mafia ties when he lived in New York. Kai thinks that the cougar ate the deer. If only.

The Deer ate my homework!!

The deer really did eat my home work. That is all of the work that I have done on my home. My dad was here visiting these past few days, and he couldn't believe the damage the deer have done to our yard. My favorite tree, a evergreen that I have been wanting for 2 years, that I finally bought last fall is basically just a large twig that is 5 ft tall with a tuft of green at the top. We wrapped it with burlap in November, but those dang deer nosed the burlap around enough to eat the whole tree. I couldn't bring myself to take the burlap off until this past week. One of Spencer's little friends said, "hey Sister McKee, are you going to make a scare crow?" That did it, the burlap was off the next day.

Where have I been?? I often ask the same questions.

It has been a very long time since I have written on our blog. For those of you who have asked if Kai is still afraid of balloons, the answer is yes. All types of floaty things are classified as balloons.

Life at the McKee's has been very busy in the past 6 weeks.

I got the flu!! I can hardly believe it. Everyone in my family got a flu shot except me. I made sure that the boys got them, and made sure Scott got one at work. I thought that if it didn't get brought home, I wouldn't get it. I hadn't planned on the flu shot not being 100% match. I will now be getting a flu shot every year. So many of my friends helped me while I was really sick. It seemed like a long time, about 10 days.

We finished ski lessons at Wolf Mt., and then went to the Canyons to ski with my cousin and her family. My dad, Hailee (my sister), Robyn (my sister), Del (Robyn's husband) went with us as well. I keep hoping Hailee will send me some of the pictures she took. I couldn't believe how much snow. Tons!! Kai was a very sad puppy because he didn't get to go. Scott stayed with him in the morning, and then my cousins husband stayed with him in the afternoon. I keep telling him, "Kai when you are 5 you can go." We have decided that unless we are going often it isn't worth taking little kids. Mica and Spencer did so well and had a lot of fun. Mica found that skiing with your family is much better than taking ski lessons. Spencer just loved to ski regardless of who it was with. We had a blast. Spencer went to Cedar with Hailee and my dad for the few days until we went to Palm Springs.

Three days later was Easter weekend/Spring Break. We went to Palm Springs to see Tyler (my brother), his family, Michaela (my sister), and her husband. What a difference 3 days makes. Snow and skiing to 90 deg., sunscreen, swimming, and air conditioning. The girls, meaning me, my mom, sisters, and sister-in-law spent most of the time swimming and hanging out with the boys. The men split up. Some went rock climbing and others golfed. The last day they all golfed. My boys loved it, and can't wait to do it again. This is one of the few Easters that we haven't spent in Ferron on "the desert".

Last summer my mom and dad took our boys for a week while Scott and I went to Vancouver for 10th anniversary. During that time they went to a resort that was similar to the one in Palm Springs only it was in Las Vegas. While there Mica lost his sandals. So Las Vegas became Lost Vegas. Everyday Spencer is asking if we can go back to Lost Vegas. Really he means, "I want to go swimming in a very warm place where my lips won't turn blue."

The next weekend soccer started. We have been living and breathing a lot of soccer. Mica and Spencer are both playing. Last Saturday Spencer scored, the Saturday before Mica scored. I don't know who has been more happy the boys or the dad. Scott has been pretty proud about the whole thing. This Saturday is the first Saturday that the games haven't been at the same time. Scott is head coach for Spencer, and assistant for Mica. Mica has really improved this year, it has been really fun to watch him play. I haven't been able to go to any of Spencer's games, and Scott hasn't been to any of Mica's so we are really looking forward to watching. Kai is wishing he could play, he is kicking the ball around in the yard with Scott.

Yesterday it felt like Spring had fnally arrived in Northern Utah. It was at least 80, a heat wave. The boys have been begging to go "swimming" or at least run through the sprinklers. The rule is no swimming until the A/C turns on. This didn't stop Spence. You have to remember Spence is only 32 lbs, so there is no insulation (aka fat) on his body. I have posted a few of the pictures that I took. Yes that is snow still on the mountains, and yes it is snowing here today.

I think Spencer is hilarious. This clip was taken yesterday while Scott was testing the sprinklers. I asked Spencer to dance, he did with out any music. The music is his recent favorite song.
