Those Who Live By The Sword...

One TikTok video captioned 'my boy' shows the owner dancing in her kitchen with her dog and laughing. The overlaying audio hauntingly plays: 'This is my son, and I don't give a f*** if you think he looks aggressive.' Posted in December, the footage with the audio continues: 'I don't give a f*** if you don't like the look of him, and I certainly don't give a f*** if you think the breed should be banned.'
The videos are of foul-mouthed and dim Nicole Morey, 23, who was savaged to death by her 'boy' in Limerick after a night out celebrating her birthday, with horrified Garda who turned up having to shoot the hulking brute off her shredded corpse.
The harrowing incident was captured on CCTV, and the footage has been leaked online, with Gardaí urging the public not to share it.

I heard this rumour on Twitter, but I've not seen the video, and I'd urge anyone sent the footage not to view it. The Garda are right, I did see the video of Ian Price being mauled to death, and it's something I wish I could unsee.

Ms Morey had previously posted on a dog behaviour Facebook group seeking advice on how to control the animal.

A quote from one of my favourite movies seems appropriate here: "You never had control, that's the illusion! I was overwhelmed by the power of this place. But I made a mistake, too, I didn't have enough respect for that power and it's out now."

Reacting to the shocking news, Justice Minister Helen McEntee said she now favours banning certain breeds of dog in Ireland, including the XL Bully.

Just like Scotland. It always takes a hi-profile death in their own country to force these idiots in power to act.

Currently no breeds are banned in Ireland, but there are restrictions on certain breeds - meaning owners must be over 16, the dogs must be muzzled in public, kept on strong leads or a chain and must wear collars at all times, containing the owners contact information. Asked if she wanted to see an outright ban, Ms McEntee told RTÉ News At One: 'Personally, I think there should be, yes.
'Where a dog is known to be potentially vicious… where there is a pattern of particular dogs, then we do need to go further here.
'This was in a person's home, so how do we protect people where they have dogs that are restricted, even within their own homes as well?

We don't, Helen. We let this problem solve itself.

'This review group is looking at all of the options here.
'We need to ensure that nothing like this happens again, this is really, really devastating.'

It will happen again, as it already has in England, despite the ban. But now it's mostly happening to the people that own these wertched things, and not to innocent people in public areas.

As Inevitable As Summer Itself...

The instant the temperature spikes up, the drownings start....
The father of a boy who drowned in the River Tyne has told of his anguish after another teen died on the same stretch of water. Carl Hattersley says yesterday's tragedy has brought back memories of his ordeal in July 2022 when his son, Robert, 13, died. Robert, from Crawcrook, was swept under by the current when he got into difficulty while swimming with his pals in the river in Ovingham, Northumberland. Yesterday, a 14-year-old boy died and a 13-year-old boy is in a critical condition after getting into difficulty in the same waters. The teen who passed away had jumped in to save his friend who began to struggle while playing on a rope swing, locals revealed.
Mr Hattersley, who has set up a foundation in his son's name to raise awareness of the dangers of open water swimming, said he wanted to send his condolences to the boy's family.

Just how much 'awareness' can you raise, if the constant stream of deaths isn't doing the trick?

He said he was 'quite disappointed' with Northumberland Council, which he says has not been in touch with him since his son's death. 'We thought something would have been done by the Northumberland Council by now,' he said.

Ah, yes, the 'someone should do something!' attitude that's so often prevalent in these cases.  Quite what they should do, heaven only knows - fence off every stretch of open water in the area? At a cost to the local taxpayer?

Mr Hattersley said he wanted to raise awareness of the dangers of open water swimming in schools. 'Let's get people aware, of all ages, like these young teenagers,' he said.
'If they're not from around here they might not know the dangers of Northumberland's rivers because it's quite dangerous and strong because of the current.''Kids are kids. They go down to the river and they don't see the dangers, they think it's fine. As the summer gets closer there's going to be more going down there.'

And there will be more drownings. In fact, here they are alreadyhere they are already.

And I Predict It Won't Be The Last...

The incident is thought to be the first fatal attack involving registered XL Bully dogs since fresh restrictions on the breed came into force on February 1.
Waking up to this news this morning, that was my first thought.

My second being 'Hornchurch!' because I know the area well, and though like any East London area, there are nicer roads and what can be described as less-nice roads, most areas there are definitely in the former camp. And this area was close to Emerson Park, where houses over £1m are often on the market.

It's not the sort of place where you'd expect to find the sort of people who normally own these breeds living...
One person told The Mirror that police had not killed the dogs involved, and had instead 'taken them away'.

That's utterly mindboggling. Why?

Speaking about today's incident, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: 'A woman in her 50s has died after an incident inside a house in Hornchurch. 'Police were called to Cornwall Close around 1.12pm on Monday, May 20, to reports of a woman attacked by a dog.
'The woman was treated by medics from London Ambulance Service, but sadly she was pronounced dead at the scene.
'Due to the threat posed, armed officers attended. After assessing the situation, officers were able to safely seize two dogs.
'These were registered XL Bully dogs and prior to officers' arrival had been contained inside a room in the house. They did not leave the house at any time during the incident.
'The family of the woman, who was the owner of the dogs, are being supported by officers.'

What evidential value do live dogs have to the investigation? When set against the threat they pose to the vet techs, kennel workers and police that will have to handle them until a judge hands down a destruction order?

It's Called The Third World For A Reason...

An inquest into his death heard that Mr Brown had electrocuted himself while attempting to steady himself using an overhead cable - which he was unaware was live.

Yikes! Where? Not England, which is a bit of a clue...

Mr Linder said: "We were just a couple of septuagenarians backpacking across India to discover the history, culture and geography of a fascinating country - although in reality we were staying in hotels and driving.
"As we were leaving our hotel we found the most stunning view and asked our driver to pull over.
"Ivan was always in pursuit of the perfect photograph and reached up on a cable not realising it was live."

Fascinating it may be, but H&S isn't part of the culture.

At The Risk Of Sounding Like Mick Dundee...

"That's not a tragedy..."
A 17-year-old boy was killed and three others were injured in a horror crash after a police chase ended in tragedy. The teenager died after the car smashed into a tree just before midnight on July, 21 near Bosty Lane in Aldridge, near the junction with Daw End, in Walsall.
"...this is a tragedy."
A man has been left seriously injured after a car smashed through the wall of his house and ended up in his living room. The terrifying incident took place on Friday evening, with dramatic pictures showing a white Vauxhall Corsa burrowed inside the front room.

Frankly, the more of these idiots that slam into a tree (Sorry, tree!) and kill themselves, instead of injuring innocent members of the public, the better.

It's FAFO Time Again!

Police in upstate New York fatally shot a woman dead inside of her home...

Typical trigger happy Noo Yawk cops, just shooting anyone who looks at 'em funny...

...after she pulled a knife on them in April 2022, newly released video shows.

Oh.

When the officers tackle Feith, she eventually manages to wrangle free. At that point, a stun gun is deployed which does not subdue her. A voice can be heard saying: 'Shoot her,' Kemlage then fires twice.

Don't bring a knife to a gunfight. Should have listened to Jim Malone!

The shooting remains under investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Doubt even the wokest DA could charge them, but who really knows

Darwin Strikes Again...

Leo Gradwell was behind the wheel of a stolen Fiat 500 when he lost control and collided with a Kia Sportage and then a Renault Clio on Asthon Road in Golborne, Wigan. Leo, from Platt Bridge, was initially rushed to the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan, before being taken to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.
Wait, children's hospital..? Yes. He was 14.
However, his injuries were considered unsurvivable and his life support , of the 'much-loved son and brother' was withdrawn the following day.

Some might argue that decision should perhaps have been made before the crash...

Yesterday, a jury who began hearing evidence in the case last week, returned their findings and conclusion.

Was it 'Good riddance'..?

Summing up the evidence, Mr Brennand said GMP PC Darren Sharpe who was asked to review the incident 'considered the actions of his colleagues to proportionate and legitimate.'
Neville Lowden from the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), also concluded the pursuit was 'proportionate and legitimate', the hearing was told.

Not that any of that prevented the family's solicitor having a dig at the cops, instead of staying wisely silent, of course...

A Question That's Easily Answered...

Great question, 'Mail' headline writer. Any clues in your article?

...despite his 'controlling and abusing' behaviour, smitten Terry declared she wanted to marry him and have his child...
The jobless ex con and drug addict didn't work...
...had a string of prior convictions including arson, robbery and attempted robbery dating back a decade.

Oh. Just the usual ones then?

Mess With The Bull, And What Do You Get, Senor?

Terrifying video footage shows an avid Mexican hunter being gored by a buffalo before he died at a hospital during a hunting trip in the central Argentine city of Entre Ríos.
I was expecting this to be a water buffalo, but no, it's clearly an African cape buffalo. The animal known as a member of the big five of Africa, and with a legendary reputation as dangerous game.

Not something I'd expect to see in Argentina...
The Entre Ríos prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into the incident and interviewed the three friends who traveled with Canales for the hunting excursion. While hunting is legal, it is against the law to kill a buffalo because it is a wildlife animal.

Wait, what..?

I'm Not In The Slightest Bit Concerned...

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor said:'I fully appreciate the public will be very concerned. '

What's to be concerned about? Did the police throw a handcuffed prisoner off the bridge for shits n' giggles? That'd be something to be concerned about...

The father of a labourer who entered the Thames as he was being arrested after a drunken row with his girlfriend today accused police of 'watching' him die, claiming his son could have been saved as the water was only 'waist-deep'.

At the point he went in, yes, no doubt. But this sorry collection of chavnames are the ones to blame for what happened here, entirely.

Liam Allan was on a night out in Kingston, south-west London, with his partner, Caitlin, and teen brother Ethan Adami-Clack on Friday when he entered the water via steps by Bill's restaurant on Riverside Walk just after 10.30pm.
She reportedly ran to the corner of the bridge where she saw him swimming away from police, and officers are alleged to have tried to stop her chasing after him.

So they saved her from drowning with him. Win some, lose some!

The response of this kid's father is quite telling about what sort of person we are talkiing about here:

'Why did the police even take him down to the river bank? It was an alleged theft, but his girlfriend was always ringing the police over him for something, and it wasn't a theft. They were out together, what would he have taken?'

Who know? That's why the police were in the process of arresting him, so they could find out...

Mr Allan, who did agency work in construction but wanted to be a rapper...

Say no more.

What's To Honour..?

...a number of his friends have left public messages in honour of the young man’s life. Laura Gosman Hair took to Facebook to write: “Can't quite believe it. Rip Taylor.” Luke Calder added: “Rest in Piece TP. Taken far too young.” Sophie Cooper wrote: “Love you loads Taylor Perkins always in my heart forever”. Another went on to say: “So sorry for his family who lost him far too young x.”

Oh, how sad, another young life lost to covid, or the vaccine for covid, or...

Oh!

Kent Police said a dark-coloured Audi TT car was reported to have failed to stop when requested to do so by police at around 11.25am.
Following a "short pursuit", the vehicle was then reported to have crashed into the bus in Spitfire Way five minutes later. The driver suffered fatal injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene.

Darwin claims another!

Darwin And The Law Of Gravity Is All That Stand Between Us...

...and a crime wave:

A schoolboy plunged to his death from a fairground ride after he and five friends are said to have broken into travelling fun fair before it opened this morning.
Locals said they had heard a group of around six youngsters had climbed over fencing on the perimeter to get into the fair in Dover, Kent.
Emergency crews were called to Family Funfair in a park in Dover, Kent around 7.45am.

The obligatory chavshrine and revelation of a double-barrelled surname weren't long in revelation....

Catherine Dennison, 75, a retired P&O ferry worker who lives close to the park said she heard an 'unusual' number of sirens this morning.
Catherine, who had worked on the ferries as an interpreter added: 'It's so awful. I feel so sorry for his mother, and his father, and his friends who saw it.'

I feel sorry for the owners of the funfair who will now face an investigation into site security, and the emergency services having to deal with the consequences, myself.

A Stunning Loss To The Profession, I'm Sure...

A 23-year-old business law student who died after eating a suspected cannabis sweet has been pictured.

If you're imagining a young chap with spots and a waistcoat, well, errr, think again!

 Huh!

Damilola Olakanmi, from Ilford, east London, bought the 'gummies' through a messaging app and they were delivered to her home where she fell ill last Tuesday.
The Hertfordshire University student was rushed to Queen's Hospital, Romford, at around 11.30pm - but died on April 2.

Not a difficult investigation for the Met, this one:

Leon Brown, 37, of South Norwood, was arrested on Friday in connection with the incident. He was charged with possession with intent to supply Class B synthetic cannabinoid, being concerned in the supply of a synthetic cannabinoid, and possession with intent to supply a psychoactive substance.
The Met said he was found in possession of a large quantity of cash and what were believed to be edible cannabis products.

Believed to be edible by the police, or by Leon's ever-shortening list of customers?

Why Didn't Your Daughter Join The Dots?

“Why didn’t the school and social workers and police join up the dots?” said Clements. “If they had, Laura and Ella might still be here.”

Another day, another 'Why didn't the State do what my daughter should have done about her abusive relationship?' paen in the 'Guardian'...

The family say an opportunity was lost on Boxing Day, 2014.

A big one, at that:

Ella and her mother, who was in a distressed state, had run to a neighbour. Mortimer said Boon had punched her in the face, but subsequently changed her story and refused to press charges.

*sighs*

A social worker saw Boon as a high risk. She called the school, but didn’t explain why she was making inquiries. In April, the case was closed.
Mortimer could have been given more support – although she have may decided then that remaining in the relationship was safer.

*boggle*

The Home Office has now provided funding for a DHR repository alongside which the Domestic Abuse Commissioner’s office is developing a national oversight mechanism, which could come into operation this year.
“I believe that this new mechanism can help prevent future tragedies,” said Jacobs.

It won't, while women refuse to take the help offered.

More Like 'The Final Countdown'...

A heartbroken family has paid emotional tributes to a biker “with a heart of gold” following the verdict of his inquest.
Robert Kenward has been described by his family as a “hands on” man who loved riding motorbikes and being out with his friends.
Mr Kenward’s family told the inquest that he “died doing what he loved”.

So...what was it that he loved?

The 24-year-old had been pulling a wheelie when he sadly lost control of his vehicle and collided with a lamppost when heading towards Hadleigh.

Oh, Seems it was 'riding like a moron and endangering other road users and pedestrians'.

Well, then, *high five*, Grim Reaper!

Coroner Brown recorded a verdict that Mr Kenward died in a road traffic collision. She added: “It’s been a long time, and now it’s the final chapter.

Would have been very tempted, if I were her, to break into song!

You Spelled 'Drunken, Drugged Car Thief' Wrong...

You don't spell it 'mechanic'...

Kayne Gardner, 30, crashed into the HGV while behind the wheel of a stolen Audi Q5 while attempting to flee from pursuing officers near Ilford, London, on October 21, 2018.
The coroner's court heard that Kayne had been driving the vehicle while almost three-times the drink-drive limit of 80mg per 100ml of blood, with 228mg found in his system.
A toxicologist also reported finding traces of the psychoactive substance THC, found in cannabis, in Kayne's system at the time of his death.

*sighs* Sadly, it's not technically a Darwin, since he's passed on his clearly defective genes:

Kayne was killed only a few days before he had been expecting to move in with his girlfriend Bonnie Exley and this (sic) daughter.
Speaking about her boyfriend's death, Bonnie said that their happy ending had been taken from them.

By whom, other than himself?

"We will never forget him, all I can do is raise our daughter in a way that makes him proud."

You mean the police will be chasing her down a dual carriageway at some point in the future?

The jury ruled Kayne died as a result of misadventure.

I guess they didn't have a ruling of 'criminal stupidity' to hand? Maybe it should be an option...

Every Single Summer...

The father of a teenager who drowned in South Yorkshire says more people could die if there isn't enough rescue equipment near open water.

Here we go again. Every year when it gets a bit warm, regular as clockwork...

"He was happy. He was going in the right direction," says his dad Simon.

Really? Was he?

When his school broke up for May half-term, Sam went swimming with friends at a local reservoir in Rotherham.
"He had no fear. He didn't see the danger of jumping in, despite not being able to swim," Simon adds.

*sighs* It's often a feature of these cases, though.

Simon is angry that his son couldn't be saved.

Not with his son. Or the friends who decided to ignore the warnings and take him swimming. Gosh, no!

There must be no personal responsibility, ever! It's the Modern Way.

He says there was a flotation ring at the reservoir but it was hidden underneath overgrown trees, so Sam's friends didn't see it.
Simon is fundraising for more life-saving equipment to be available near open water: "I want to get this campaign up and going so that money is not an excuse for not having this equipment around the water."

I suppose at least he isn't demanding someone else finance it

A Conclusion Of The Foregone Kind, I Presume?

Conor Mitchell, 26, who was from the Bingley area but more recently living in Skipton, suffered a catastrophic brain injury when his car smashed into a wall on Skipton Road, Utley, in the early hours of February 20 last year.

Well, doesn't sound like he used it much...

Can we count this a Darwin?

The young dad was taken to Leeds General Infirmary (LGI), but died later that day.

Oh. Pity.

The inquest will resume this morning when the coroner is expected to record her conclusion.

It shouldn't take her long.

Monday, 29 March 2021

But No Common Sense..?

"Callum crammed a lot of fun, love and hard work into his 21 years."

Sadly, his leisure time was the problem...

A series of tyre marks on the road showed that Callum had started to lose control of the car as he approached the turning where he crashed.
"They show the vehicle is starting to rotate as it's going at a speed too high to try and negotiate the bend," a representative for Sussex Police told the inquest.
"It mounted the verge, hit two lamp posts and came to rest 100 metres from the bend. There was no evidence at all of braking."
He added: "If he had been travelling within the speed limit and giving due care and attention, I believe he would have been able to negotiate that bend."
Brighton and Hove coroner Veronica Hamilton Deeley recorded the cause of death as "unsurvivable head and brain injuries due to a road traffic collision". She also noted the "presence of alcohol at 227mg per 100ml of blood" as a contributing factor.

Darwin strikes again!

It's A Reminder Of Something Else, Too...

Solicitor Lauren Dale of Hudgell Solicitors, who represented Mr Barnes' family at the hearing, said: 'This case is a reminder of the tragic consequences of security and other personnel seeking confrontation and using excessive force.
It's also a reminder not to get out of your trolly on drugs on a night out, start a fight when challenged and then resist arrest when caught.
Ms Dale added that Mr Barnes' family cannot watch the footage as it is too 'heart-breaking' and that the family were hurt by what they viewed as a 'lack of compassion' from the four men during the inquest.'

Any compassion I might have goes to four men who could soon be on trial for trying to make the late night station a better area, unsullied by violent druggies.
