2 Policemen Killed, 8 Wounded in N. Afghan Blast

Afghanistan Sun (ANI) | Xinhua-ANI | Thursday 1st August, 2013 | Kabul, Aug. 1 - Two Afghan policemen were killed and eight others wounded on Thursday morning when a roadside bombing struck their vehicle in northern Faryab Province, said the deputy provincial governor.

"Afghan National Police (ANP) personnel were travelling in an area in Bilchiragh District at around 9:00 a.m. local time. Their vehicle touched off an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). As a result, the district anti-criminal police chief Zahir Khan and an ANP cop were killed and eight policemen were wounded," Abdul Satar Bariz told Xinhua.

U.S. and Iraqi Troops Detain Two, Find Cache

AL RASHEED, Iraq — Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 4th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division and the 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), along with the Al Rasheed Iraqi police detained two suspected terrorists and found improvised explosive device-making materials during an operation in here Jan. 1.

The operation was conducted following a tip identifying a possible IED cell based out of Al Rasheed.

The troops and Iraqi police found bomb-making materials in an Al Rasheed residence. The items uncovered included two shovels, electronic circuit boards, various wires and telephone, cell phones and radio parts.

The radio and phone parts were consistent with those typically used in fabricating remote-controlled IED detonators. Two gas masks were also found in the house.

The detainees were taken into custody for further questioning.
