HOMECOMING WEEK!

The week started out calm and peaceful.  On Monday night Brightyn was asked to Homecoming by her good friend Colman.  (Just to clarify the school can't hold a dance due to all the Covid guidelines.  So the officers came up with a date night/game night activity in place of the dance. So Brightyn went with Colman to that on Saturday night and he will also be taking her this Saturday to a dance that some parents are holding that isn't affiliated with High School.  I'm so grateful parents have stepped up so our Seniors can still have some kind of normalcy!)

Brighytn was excited about the week. Little did we know what we were in for early Tuesday morning.  Once the winds hit every thing went crazy.  With the power out the kids couldn't go to school so there went some of the fun activities for the week.  Our Admin and Advisors scrambled and made adjustments so that the kids could still enjoy Homecoming week.  The kids only went to school on Thursday and Friday. So they tried to do as much as they could those two days and re-scheduled some things for this week.  We were still able to have the football game and parade.

The Seniors always do flag on Homecoming!
Brightyn always carries the flag because she is one of the tallest!

It is a tradition for the Senior parents to feed the Vykelles on Homecoming.  We felt super grateful we were able to still provide dinner and keep the tradition alive.  They also received a super soft blanket from the coaches.

The city wouldn't allow permits to use the streets for the Homecoming parade so our officers and advisors got created and decided to do it around the High School instead.  It was very different but still fun and still allowed the kids to be able to enjoy a Homecoming parade. Viewmont has been so great about making adjustments and being creative so kids still get some kind of normal experience.  Even though Covid is making everything 10 times harder.  Everyone is trying that much harder to make the best of it.

The Wind Storm of 2020

Early Tuesday morning the winds began to howl.  We were all awake around 4am listening to the winds shake our house and throw things into the windows and siding.  Our power went out at 5:30am.  They closed schools because it was too dangerous to drive on the roads.  Semi trucks fell on their sides, power poles and trees were down everywhere.  The winds continued to get worse and worse as the morning progressed.  It blew ALL day. We thought it was never going to end.  It was very similar to the wind storm of 2011.  We sustained winds up to 112 MPH.  It was crazy.  Centerville always gets hit hard.  The Mayor declared a state of emergency.  By Tuesday evening things settled a bit and we tried to do a little clean up.
We were very fortunate.  We only lost this single piece of siding.  We didn't even lose a tree.  Many of our neighbors trees fell into our yard but ours survived!

Our poor bird feeders!  It didn't stop the birds from eating from them off the ground!
For the first couple of days getting around Centerville was tricky because many roads were shut down due to power lines and trees being down across the roads.  Viewmont sustained some damage.  The poor scoreboard lost it's NGS.  So it just says VIKI.  haha

This is the entrance to the football stadium at Viewmont.  What a mess!

The Walmart sign blew completely off!  Our power was off for 36 hours.  Fortunately all of our food survived.  On Tuesday evening we were starving so we drove to North Salt Lake to get some warm food.  The entire city of Centerville had NO power.  So every fast food restaurant in Bountiful had lines for miles.  So you couldn't find anywhere to eat.  And even some of the restaurants in Bountiful were without power and closed down.  It was a crazy couple of days. Later that night we all went to Viewmont to charge our phones because Viewmont still had power.  It was really eerie to see the whole city completely black.  Not a single light anywhere.

White Washing the "V"

September 7, 2020
Before the white washing began and everyone is all clean!  haha

Homecoming was early this year so whitewashing the "V" was done on Labor day.  I'm so grateful that the Administration and Advisors are so willing to work extra hard to make these activities still possible for these Seniors.  They held two sessions and did temperature checks, Covid health checks and required masks. But it was still super fun for the kids and allowed them to continue the tradition.

All done and all covered in paint.  Brightyn did the first session so they just white washed the one side of the "V" and left the other side for the second session.  haha

Labor Day Weekend

We decided to head to the Uintah's for Labor Day weekend.  Of course we took Reggie.  We did a hike to the Wall Lake.  It was a little long for Reggie so we took turns carrying him at times.  haha  This was his favorite way to travel.  Reggie loves the mountains because there is so much to smell and chew!
Of course Jas did some fishing.  It was a super relaxing and fun day spent with Jas, Berklee and Brightyn.  Little did we know what was coming the day after Labor Day!  The Wind Storms!  HAH!

My baby's SENIOR YEAR!

Brightyn's first day of kindergarten!

August 25, 2020

My baby first day of her Senior year.  I really can't believe that this is it. My Momma heart is full of so many emotions as my baby enters her last year of school.  From wearing Hannah Montana in kindergarten to masks her Senior year a lot has changed but she is still that same sweet girl on the inside.  I'm excited to enjoy this last year with her no matter how crazy it might. be!
My cute Brightyn was a Viking master again this year.  Which means she helps the Sophomores on their first day of school. So she had to wear her Viking Master's shirt instead of her first day of school outfit.

Due to the pandemic the kids are required to wear masks to school.  Our district has opted to do a hybrid learning schedule to allow for social distancing.  So that means Brightyn will only go to school two days a week and do remote/online learning the other 3 days.  So far it has been a disaster.  It is nearly impossible to pass college classes only seeing your teacher one day a week for in person learning.  Brightyn saw her math teacher once and two weeks later she had a college math test.  This form of education is pretty much a joke.  I'm praying that we won't stay in this hybrid schedule the whole year.  We are the only district in the State doing this dumb hybrid model.  Parents are fighting to go back to 5 days a week.  I pray they can win!

We had to take a picture in her "real first day of school outfit".
