The last two weekends we have been crazy busy every Saturday with Brightyn's and the Vykelle's drill competitions. The first Saturday after the Christmas break we headed to Utah Valley University where weren't very happy with the results of that competition. I will explain more later on in this post about that competition.
But first lets talk about last Saturday. We headed to Bountiful High School for our final invitational before state. Our girls were amazing! After a major disappointment at Utah Valley these girls came back stronger than ever. They executed perfectly! WE WON! We beat Farmington and Bountiful. They have changed things up a little this year and don't do a region competition but this was basically a mini region. It felt so great to get the WIN!
Military: 3rd Place
Dance: 1st Place
Character: 1st Place
Overall: 1st Place
We have the best student section. These cute boys slept out in a tent over night to get front row seats to cheer on our Vykelles. It was soooo awesome! It also saved us parents from having to stand out to early to get seats. I had to be there at 5am to stand in the freezing cold to get my seats but I was so grateful to these boys because it would have been earlier.
They got very little sleep and crashed after we got inside and claimed our seats. haha
Jason and I couldn't be more proud and excited for Brightyn and the Vykelles. What a day!
Brightyn's history teacher Kellen came to cheer them on. Brightyn was so excited!
Zak Willians was the leader of the bunch and he has been to every competition cheering on our girls. He is awesome. He also created all these shirts. He was so cute and even made red and blue ones to match the girls character routine. We truly had the BEST student section.
Carly our team videographer! She is the best supporter as well. She never misses a competition!
Brightyn's sweetheart date, Brash Emery, came to support too!
The coaches and Brightyn
Kayla, Melanie, and Brittany
Brittany is new this year and she is absolutely amazing! She has made such a HUGE difference in the program this year. She is the mastermind behind our incredible character routine.
Hallie and Brightyn
One proud and happy Momma!
Poor Ella. Brightyn rubbed her red paint on Ella and turned her head pink.
One of our cute Mom's gave the girls these cute cookies!
Some fun pics of Brightyn in the dance routine!
Ok, so now lets talk about two Saturdays ago at Utah Valley. First of all these 3 pictures are all I took that night because it was such a weird finish. Our girls performed pretty much flawlessly and ended up with some weird placing.
Military: 6th place
Dance: 3rd place
Character: 2nd place
Overall: 3rd place
The judging was soooooo off and made no sense. Our military routine had been winning all season long and we didn't even break the top 5. It was all Utah County judges and the Utah County teams placed ahead of us. HUM? It was a little fishy. Our character routine is one of a kind and incredible. We ended up losing because the difficulty judge missed one of our elements so we didn't get our difficulty points. All of the other judges saw that exact move she missed and even commented on how great it looked. UGH! So we lost because a judge got so into our routine and failed to do her job. Soooo VERY FRUSTRATING! Normally we wouldn't really care too much about this invitational. However, they changed the way they do things this year and every single competition counts towards your RPI which determines the region champ and your placing at state. Well because of this competition we lost the region title. We would have won it all if not for our horrible placing in military. To say we are frustrated is an understatement. So we ended up taking 2nd in region.
Complete exhaustion!
