Basketball Tournament

This past Saturday Brevin played in a basketball tournament in the Ogden area.  Our family went to cheer him on.  It was fun to finally have a Saturday that we could all be together and support Brevin.
Brevin played really well.  Our team loss all three games but played some really tough teams.  One of the teams from Idaho looked like they were all in High School--really BIG!

5A Region Drill Competition

These cute girls competed their hearts last night.  They looked amazing.  They have worked so hard and it really showed in their performances Wednesday. I am so proud of them.  Our region has some tough competition & these girls represented Viewmont so well!!
Teams in our region:
Syracuse
Layton
Freemont
Weber
Davis
Northridge

We barely missed going to State.  They take the top four teams and we came in 5th place overall.

Military:  4th place
Dance:  Tied for 3rd place
Character:  Tied for 4th place
Overall: 5th place

I thought for sure our character routine would place in the top three.  Along with hip hop it had been our strongest routine at our other competitions.  Weird how the judges can be so different from competition to competiton.  ((At region you don't get to compete hip hop.  Which is a bummer because our hip hop routine is awesome!))

K-L-O-N-D-I-K-E

This cute boy survived another klondike over night adventure.  Brevin LOVES klondike and can't wait to go every year.  I'm always so happy when he walks in the door on Saturday afternoon.  I always worry about him and he always reassures me that he stays warm at night.  Brevin always comes home with some large drink.  This year was no exception!  haha

A Tropical Snowman

This cute girl made this adorable tropical snow woman for a school assignment.  The snow woman had to be made entirely of paper. Miss Brightyn brought her snow woman home to work on because she wanted to make sure it had all of the details.

Bountiful Invitational Drill Competition

The Vykelles
It was another drill filled weekend.  It started Friday evening and continued on through Saturday evening.

Berklee competed her solo on Friday evening.  It was her best performance of this solo she has ever done.  It was awesome.  I was so happy for her.  This solo has been a huge challenge for her and she has never given up.  She placed 9th out of 17.  She got ROBBED!  She really should have taken 4th place but the judges gave her a safety penalty and took 10 points off for the penalty so it knocked her right out of placing in the top five.  The safety penalty was on a very simple move where she drops to the floor on her hands and knees.  They said that her hands need to hit first so it doesn't hurt her knee.  REALLY!  She has been competing this solo all season and she has never received a penalty.  The penalty was ticky tacky and ridiculous.  We were all bummed & very frustrated!
It has been a rough couple of weeks for the Vykelles with the out break of the whooping cough and then one of our girls couldn't compete because her grandfather passed away.  Another was taken out of a routine so it was crazy trying to get prepared and ready for this competition.  However, the girls looked amazing and fought hard.
Adversity always makes you better.  So these girls are going to rock it at Region in a couple of weeks.

Falcon Solo Competition

Olivia and Berklee
(Sorry for the bad pic.  It was taken with an Iphone.)

Berkle competed her solo last night.  She hit it!  It was the best I have seen her do it.  She has had a hard time with this solo routine this year.  It is a very different style than she is used to.  It is full of athletic and dynamic moves.  She has done a great job learning all the new moves and cleaning this routine.  It has been a constant source of stress for her.  So I was very happy for her last night.  She placed 7th out of 15.  She wasn't super happy with her placing but happy with her performance.  The competition is tough in 5A and she is doing great.  He drill coach told her she is doing very well up against these big schools and seniors.

We were also supposed to compete in the team competition today but we had to pull our team from the competition because two of the girls on Berklee's team have whooping cough.  So the Health Department stepped in and said that it is considered an "outbreak" so the High School decided to play it safe and keep our girls out of the competition so we didn't have the risk of spreading it to all at the competition.  We have another competition this coming weekend.  Everyone is crossing their fingers that no one else comes down with whooping cough.  YIKES!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Brevin, Austin, Eli, Brigham

Good Bye 2013!  Hello 2014!  2013 was a good year for the Smith's.  I always feel a sense of sadness as we ring in a new year because I know that my kids will never be this age again and next Christmas season they will be one year older and things will be a little different.  Kids change soooo much in a year!
On the other hand I love the new year.  A fresh new start with so many things to look forward to.

Berklee rang in the new year with her friends.  Brightyn went to Davis High with her friend Landree.  Jason, Brevin and I rang in the new year at the Richey's.  We enjoyed Mandarin, yummy treats and great conversation.  So great, that I forgot to take any other pictures than the one above.  The Beckmans, Walkers, Steinickes, Burninghams, Richeys and us enjoyed a fun evening together.

Happy 2014!!
