Why I Eyes Ya - Finishes TOMORROW!
Hello all! Tomorrow is the last day of Why I Eyes Ya, so if you haven't got your fill of pussy-art, get yourselves along to Craft Victoria today or tomorrow. I believe there is still some Cat Shit available for purchase too, a perfect gift for any feline-enthusiast.

the one that was left behind
This little dude got forgotten in the scanner! It's pretty tempting to sneak it into Craft Victoria - see if anyone notices?

While you're at work, I'm doing this.
So I swoon about, weeping about how I have never acquired any real skills, how I should have finished high school and studied something soul-destroying like accounting, and then at least I would be able to pay my rent and then buy d'affinois instead of coon cheese.
And then I spend a Monday morning making THIS:
I realised the ridiculousness of this life in an email I just sent: "I was just gathering materials to make some crazy cat toys for next
week's show (I can't believe I can classify this as work - I just pasted
some 'cauliflower eyebrows' onto a cat's face)"
That's right. This is actually my job now. The highlight of my morning was finding a miniature fake lemon at the opp shop (PERFECT for making said cat toys), and getting it for free, because the opp shop lady couldn't fathom why on earth I would want it.
By the way, this is about the size of a large grape. Hilarious.
So I suppose I could always study to be an accountant next year. Right now I'm too busy sticking food items to animal's faces.

crazy cat ladies are coming for ya
Hey all, keep your eyes peeled for a collaboration between myself and the ever talented Tai Snaith, coming to a Craft Victoria near you! It is still some months away, but demented cats are already in the making.

I crawled out from under my rock and discovered that it's December!
Seriously, WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN!? I am one of those creepy anal people, that has all Christmas shopping done by September, and my new diary for the following year filled in by November. This year something happened and I discovered that Christmas is at the END of NEXT WEEK. Was anyone else aware of this?
Anyway. I am in the loop now, so am doing my best to get prepared. At the moment I seem to be setting myself large tasks, and then accidentally on purpose doing something else. Last night I was supposed to be making an array of cards (birthdays, get well soons, etc etc) and instead I lay on the floor of my studio fastidiously glueing hundreds of paper butterflies to a new work. Eh, I do what my hands tell me.
The past few months I have been working on a new series for my next show (which will be in Feb, details to come!), but an opportunity to create a commission came up that I couldn't resist. I thought I'd share it with y'all, it's a Christmas gift from SOMEONE to SOMEONE else (note my awesome subtlety), so I hope it goes down well.

laser cat #672
It is my bottomless well of making - I can't seem to help myself, but when preparing for a show, a laser cat seems to wheedle its way in there somehow, like a nervous tic perhaps.
I like this one.
It seems like it's really concentrating hard on lasering. Go laser cat, go!

mug shots
I reckon these dudes look like villains from a Disney movie or something. A really disturbed, fucked up Disney movie. That has mutant cats as villains. Ok maybe forget that idea all together ... I cut out about a billion butterfly wings today and glued them all down so I think the glue fumes have gone to my head ... aaaaaah ...

Why I Eyes Ya
The past few days I've been working in tandem with the lovely Tai Snaith ... (we both seem to be holed up in our studios going crazy ... in a good way I think), so in honour of our parallel cat worlds:
There's plenty more where that came from (from both of us!) - stay tuned!

cats from long ago
I was having a coffee with a fellow artist friend yesterday, who was telling me about some collages she'd made in the past of cats with the eyes cut out and more cats' eyes behind them. Spookily (and just plain spooky) similar (we seem to do this quite often - great minds think alike?) to these works, which I thought had cats' eyes in them too ... but turned out to be a raspberry, a flower, and two birds - ha!

Pussy Queen
Hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe! (I don't think I will ever make mature work.) I especially like her little man-ferret-adviser.

work in progress
Drawing that may well become a painting that may well become something else after that. It's getting there.

The other side
Ok, so I know what it looks like: I have a thing for fish. And cats. But it's not that I swear! Or is it? Hmmm. All I know is that there is a whole lotta colour and pattern going on here, and I like it.
Content aside. Not my fault that this cat is clearly a greedy mofo.I really shouldn't have said anything - the more I write, the closer I become to being that crazy cat lady who sits in her room all day cutting out pictures of fish for her pretend paper cat to eat while singing folk music way too loud.
Oh god, it has already happened.
And some closeups for your sweet selves. Click on the images if you want to see even closer - this work is 76 x 100 cm on the crispiest fabriano tiepolo paper you ever saw (can you tell I went shopping this week?) - mmm, large!
Tomorrow? Maybe back to birds ...

Laying down the law
Hello all! Here are some pictures of my work hanging in the Media Arts Lawyers (check out their website - it's awesome!) offices in Melbourne. Cool no? The lovely Romani Benjamin hung them for me, and don't they just look super cute? It's nice to have work in an unconventional place as opposed to the white cube. Loving their wooden in-trays too. Mmm. Gotta get me some of those!
And hey, if you're thinking you need some kind of law-like legal services, especially if your in the music/entertainment biz, these guys can sort you out.
