Finally, a 2020 Wrap Up.

 Last year was a kind of blur. It started out normal but quickly changed into the year from hell. I hated being away from my family and my sewing/quilting peeps. Both of my guilds, Eastern Long Island Quilt Guild and Long Island Modern Quilt Guild, stopped in person meetings as of March. In June, our Tuesday night North Fork Quilters group decided to meet out in the parking lot of the rec center we normally met in. We were all so happy to actually see each other. Eventually both guilds transitioned to Zoom meetings but it wasn't the same.

I kept sewing and managed to get a lot of work done on the longarm. Practice, practice ,practice! I even took some of my stimulus dollars and purchased rear handles for my Simply Sixteen. Now I'm working with pantographs and I love it.

Anyway, in person classes are starting in local quilt shops and this makes me happy. Are we possibly ready to be normal again? I know I am. Here's things I've completed during 2020.

One Monthly Goal for February Complete

I finished the sweet baby quilt right on schedule. The last stitch was in the binding even before its new owner arrived on February 25th. I threw it in the wash this morning and I only have the label to sew on tonight. I may even get it into the mail tomorrow.

Thanks to Elm Street Quilts for hosting One Monthly Goal. It will keep me focused, at least on one project a month.

Finished size 50x50

{ Time Flies and Some Finishes }

Even though I haven't posted any finishes here in 9 MONTHS, I have been doing some sewing. I finished two quilt tops which I won't show until they've been quilted and bound.

I'm going to become a great-aunt for the second time and
new baby Ella needs a quilt.

This quilt finished at 52x52
The fabric is Little Miss Sunshine by Lella Boutique
The pattern is a freebie called Flower Girl from Moda Bake Shop.

Another finished quilt will be gifted this weekend.  It's a combination birthday-housewarming gift for my sister-in-law.

I actually finished a Christmas quilt before Christmas. I had been hoarding this fabric and saving this pattern for the right time. This quilt will be gifted to my step daughter who loves to cuddle under our quilts when she visits. It was time she had her own.

Quilt finished at 55x65
Fabric is Flurry by Kate Spain. Included a panel with some elements used in the quilt.

This was a fun quilt to make. I don't usually make a throw quilt pattern more than once, but I can see another Flurry quilt in my future.

{ Charming Stars }

Since the new year began, I've made two 38x52 baby plus quilts.

Shame on me for not taking photos of the them but they are identical to these quilts made previously. I was really lucky to have enough leftover fabric from the earlier projects to make two more.
I even had enough coordinating backing fabric. {High five}

I also completed the Charming Stars quilt top.  The pattern is a freebie at Moda Bake Shop. It uses three charm packs and the blocks are a breeze to make. This pattern would make a great baby boy quilt (less blocks) or a QOV quilt with some red, white and blue fabric.

The fabric is Snowman Gatherings II by Primitive Gatherings.
After I took these photos I added two more borders, pieced the backing, and boxed it up for its trip to Utah for quilting.
When she gets back, I'll take more photos.

{ I Have Quilter's ADD }

I'm really wondering if this condition exists.
Just a two days ago I picked fabric for my next quilt project,
Sweet Marie by Woodberry Way.
I put a photo up on Instagram showing the pretty
Vintage Picnic fabric and the pattern.
I even went so far as to iron all my fat quarters in preparation for
cutting on my next free evening.

Then by last night ,I decided this is a very springy collection of fabrics and since the winter is coming I need to make a winter quilt.

Oh look! I have the perfect alternative. Snowman Gatherings II by Primitive Gatherings.

As of now, this is my next project. I'm going to get started right away so I don't change my mind again.

{ One Christmas Gift Complete }

Bigfoot has been found!
I loved every moment of making this quilt.
The pattern is well written and very easy to follow.

I chose to make the quilt with the same fabric Elizabeth Hartman used.
Why mess with perfect.

{ Almost Forgot }

In between the other completed quilts I've made so far this year, I also finished this queen sized disappearing 9 patch for our guest bedroom. It was my first and possible my last quilt this size.
It was rough basting it and quilting it on my home machine.

Some of my quilting lines are a little wonky. Next time I'll be sure to mark the lines to be sure they're straight. I even ordered some extra fabric to make two throw pillows using the tutorial at Crazy Mom Quilts.

{ First Finish of 2016 }

I'm getting to check UFO numero uno from my list for the first quarter.
The Tumbler Quilt is complete!

I originally got this pattern, by Amanda at Crazy Mom Quilts, from Moda Bake Shop. The link isn't available anymore. {sorry}

Since  I have no one to gift it to presently, it has been keeping me company on the couch the past few evenings. I love the fabrics and colors. I used Flora by Lauren & Jessi Jung.

{ Moving Right Along }

Even though it's not a finish....yet, I wanted to share the progress on my Fat Quarter Shop Mystery BOM from 2012.

The top is almost finished- I just have the borders left to do. Three of them, with some flying geese thrown in for fun. {yeah, right}

Since we're expecting a winter storm this weekend, I'm hoping to get the borders pieced and attached. Maybe I'll even make the binding and piece the backing.  The blizzard could be a good thing!

{ 2016 Finish-A-Long ~ First Quarter }

I'm participating in the 2016 Finish-A-Long, hosted by bloggers from the US to Australia. The plan is to finish up projects that have been hanging around in drawers, plastic bins, cardboard boxes, whatever, in all states of completion. Motivation comes from the realization that I am not alone in my collection of UFO's and that there will be others working to complete their UFO's too.

I'm linking up through A Quilter's Table

My first quarter Finish-A-Long list - a short one this time around

1- Tumbler Quilt ~ I started this in my early quilting days-2012- and got as far as piecing three rows before it was tucked into a project box and stacked in the closet. There wasn't anything wrong with it, I just had other quilts that took it's place. I actually started working on it right after the new year began with intentions of including it on my Q1 list. I've only got the binding to hand sew and I can cross this one off.

2- Patchwork Pillow ~ I don't recall exactly when I started this but we were still splitting our time between Brooklyn and the new house. It's my first attempt at a pillow cover and will eventually rest in our guest bedroom.The fabric is Whitewashed Cottage by 3 Sisters. I'm using a tutorial on Crazy Mom Quilts
to make an envelope back pillow. It's in the very early stage.

3- Fat Quarter Shop Mystery BOM 2012 ~ All 12 blocks are pieced and the top needs to be assembled, quilted and bound. This one's going to take awhile.

4- Splish Splash ~ This is another early quilt top -2011- which was pieced but never made into a finished quilt. I'd like to get this done for when the grandkids come over, maybe for use as a playmat for the baby.

That's all for Q1 of the Finish A-Long. Wish me luck.
